From the limited info I've seen so far, Horizon looks like it's got the potential surpass what TiVo has to offer. Sadly it looks like TiVo's latest stay in the UK will be a short one. |

I agree, but the only thing at the back of my mind is the eventual demise of the stb and pvr and all services being transferred to the cloud. Then, its just a case of which service is better.

Interesting news!!! Do I remember correctly that UPC Ireland have Sky Sports News and a few other HD channels VM do not have? Will be interesting to see how this deal pans out over the next few months, and if the future owners will thrash out similar deals for us. What better way to tempt customers over to the future new company than with a launch of a load of new HD channels:-)

Just read that Liberty also own the CBS UK channels, though renaming it to Virgin Action might be a bad decision.

Virgin Media Confirm Liberty Takeover
VM has just announced on their website, that subject to shareholder approval, that Liberty Global will buy Virgin Media.
Liberty Global will become a subsidary of a new UK company and the Virgin Media name will remain. |

Another solid set of figures, with Berkett giving the credit to superfast broadband and TiVo. I can't see TiVo going just yet when it's one of the reasons that Virgin has become attractive to Liberty. Obviously in the longer term the Liberty box will be the replacement for the TiVo, but then they were always going to have to do something new after 5 to 10 years. For now I think the TiVo roll out has gone too far, and been too successful, for it to come to an abrupt end.

Notice that UPC Ireland doesn't have Sky Atlantic. Wouldn't mind the RTE channels, might get some Hurling back on the TV again.
Seriously I can't see much happening in the short term, but five years hence the IP world will be a lot different and who knows how we will view our tele. |
Very exciting times ahead. Will we see another rebrand?
