The original Premier/Viaplay/ITV deal runs to 2025.

And there are two Live: La Liga on Viaplay 1 schedule next Friday - day 1.

Found the following very good posts from DS Forum

Oh they're definitely packing up and leaving eventually, but they're trying their best to make an orderly exit.

One would have to imagine that prior to the announcement on July 20, a lot of money would have been put forward in terms of fulfilling contracts for the next 12 months. We know for certain that the SPFL received its money for the Viaplay Cup.

The Scottish Cup and Coppa Italia rights expire next summer, so they'll let them naturally end. My thinking was that the announcement left it too late for Viaplay to try to sell on La Liga to someone else (rights run until summer 2025). They do have a sublicencing deal with ITV for 10 live games per season (non-exclusively), so there could be scope of that increasing if ITV had interest.

They'll stumble on until:

1) The entire Viaplay UK entity is bought out by someone else
2) They manage to sell on every sports contract they have to someone else
3) They naturally let rights expire and don't renew

Their target to be out of the UK business is 2024, but it could mean summer 2024 or end of 2024.

Entertainingly, you can still subscribe to Viaplay - including the annual subscription.

Some bad news for "deep pockets" DAZN in that Dillian Whyte has failed a drugs test. A fight next week against Anthony Joshua was set to be their first UK PPV event.

All quiet from the promoter but likely they'll try to find someone with a pulse to step in, however anyone with name recognition is too big a risk for AJ at this point in his career as he has his sights on a Saudi payday end of 2023/early 24.

I have seen reports of the Saudi rights deal with DAZN being a TWO years deal.

I feel that DAZN may takeover Viaplay UK:

-To get more sports rights.
-And have THREE Channels on Virgin Media.

Joshua v Helenius is the replacement PPV for Saturday night - DAZN subscribers will get it free.

This will all coalesce into something sensible. Just give it a little time.

Something called “Sky” and “cable” perhaps.

Profitable Sky Sports and a collection of unprofitable competitors whose names will change every few years.
(RIP Eleven Sports, BT Sport, Setanta Sports, Premier Sports and BoxNation. Hello DAZN, Viaplay and TNT Sports.)
