4K tivo anyone? Maybe not coming to VM just yet :-)

Ultra-slim new TiVo box cuts through commercials, streams 4K

Wow! It skips through advert breaks. That will please the advertisers. They also seemed to have named it after a certain athlete that's been appearing on VM's commercials. The mind boggles.

Everyone skips the ads anyway lol - Instead of pressing the play button at the right time during recordings, it will just be a one button "SKIP" :-)

Haven't the broadcasters already raised concerns about EE's TV Replay feature which records all the terrestrial channels automatically and presents them in a VOD style menu allowing the user to FF through the ads.

They'll do what they do in USA big banners popping up during shows or live sports.

1. You don't need VM to get Netflix - in fact, you don't even need a TV (computer, laptop, tablet, phone). You pay the same irrespective of your BB supplier so the fact that it's available on VM is irrelevent.
2. There would be very little difference between the PPV movies available on VM and those available on both BT & Sky. As part of my subscription with Sky, I am able to watch over 1000 movies on demand. If that's not enough, there's Sky Box Office & Sky Store (Rent/buy with a DVD in the mail). There are also over 300 box sets available at any time on demand.

I thought you had Now TV, OB? The OD movies and box sets are available via Now TV subscriptions. Maybe you've not investigated that aspect of Now TV.

Yes, I can access Now TV but I use it only to watch the on demand programmes from Sky Atlantic.

You are right about the fact that you don't need VM to access Netflix, but I would be very surprised if the majority of VM subscribers did not have access to it by other means (apart from their computers, of course). I do believe that more streaming services should be added to the Tivo - having everything on one box is very useful for most people.

I'd also like to have all the streaming services on one box, unfortunately the current TIVO isn't it, its too slow starting up the apps

I think the only way you could have that is by buying an Android box with Play Store on it.

If i hadn't bought a firetv i'd probably go for a droidbox.

Or a samsung TV, I can't think of any streaming service that isn't on it, it even has ITV Player.

I guess the new ones have NowTV, unfortunately my 3 yo one doesn't.

My new TV will be a dumb one i think, Samsung servers seem to go down sometimes and that kills all the streaming until they fix it.

You can add FOX's YourTV to that list of missing Freeview Channels.

As of today YourTV is not testing on Virgin Media (Info from Media Boy Sources).

YourTV is set to launch on Thursday at 1pm on Freeview and Sky.

According to A516digital website it will also be available on Freesat.

Virgin sources say that Lifetime HD will launch tomorrow (no channel number confirm) and Fox will be moving permanently from L to M+ from Tomorrow as well.

I've got an Android box with the Play Store on it but don't think the UK terrestrial catch-up services are on it. (Theye're on Android phones but not the boxes.)
Device-wise, a combination of Amazon and a Now TV box probably gives you the most catch-up services for your bucks. With Now TV covering the UK PSBs, Now TV and Sky Store. And Amazon covering Prime, Netflix, Mubi and Curzon. (I appreciate that Amazon has iPlayer, Demand 5 and STVPlayer.)
