Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion

Just discovered a small problem with outlook sending mail.

It refuses to send it and reports this error message

Error message: ‘Robert – Sending’ reported error (0x800CCC13): ‘Cannot connect to the network. Verify your network connection or modem’

Fortunately its well known you just have to run sfc /scannow and the files outlook needs are but back in properly. (I hope) This affects any version of outlook. We run 2010 on one PC and 2013 on the other. The scan is 50 percent done now so I hope all goes well.

it also says to reboot the PC after the scan

Yeah I did that to my laptop after the icons/thumbs went missing. Solved that issue very effectively. Just wondering, using the built in codecs from Windows as suggested but MKV files very jittery on playback. Would downloading a codec just for MKV files be worthwhile?

The only thing we can't work out is that it says Cortana is not available in our region currently.

Networks on Windows 10 are foobared big time.

Wake on Lan does not work.

Permissions (in Linux terms) Credentials (microsoft's terms) are foobared, in Microsoft's attempt to monitor every computer in the network. If the computer is passworded, then god knows how you can access it from other computer even when you disable passworded sharing..

How do you get ride of the poin?

Aaaaaaaaaargh!

Sounds like a registry hack will be needed to disable monitoring if there's no other way. Same nonsense as scanning inserted media for content by default. That can only be disabled from the registry.

Make sure all the keyboard and language settings are set to English UK. You may also need to download some extra dictionaries and voice packs.

That's what I had to do. But then I didn't enable it because of the privacy concerns.

I haven't succumbed to doing the download yet, but seems to me it's not for the faint hearted :erm: :D:D:D

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion

Installed 10 on my gaming rig (for dx12) & my trusty Samsung R730 laptop.
Then put new SSD's in both machines and done clean installs.
Requires some drivers from Win 8.1 for laptop, almost everything on both machines working fine. Issues with some Fn functions on laptop & a graphical bug on the gaming rig where if shadowplay is turned on along with the FPS option I get framerates in the minimise/maximise/close buttons in all open windows.
Pretty happy at the moment, especially after turning off micro$ofts data gathering/harvesting options. Although I'm sure there are some silent harvesters that people are yet to find.

Well I have Win 10 on the laptop, and I can't say I'm over the moon with it. I won't be putting it on my main desktop unless DX12 becomes an issue. Win 7 feels better.

And I hate the icons and the layouts/explorer.

I've personally welcomed it upgrading from 8.1 which started to become a real slug. MS need not patch this to death! Please!

Shutdown hold up is still present though. Do they have to turn the display off soo quickly?! Simultaneous or even a couple seconds out will do but a whole 10 odd seconds between display off and machine off!!
