He has to be careful. Unless he had hard evidence he can't throw this accusations around. News Corp won't be on the defence forever and when this is all over The Sun will be set on the people that caused them trouble :erm:

I have never believed for one second that the NOTW was the only paper doing this or that NI was the only media group involved either but while the heat is on lets get it all out as much to clear those who didn't as much as to punish those who did. We cannot have a media where there is doubt and suspicion hanging over it so it really is in the best interests of the whole industry to come clean now rather then get caught out later.

Perhaps he does but wants to protect his sources for the time being.:)

Phone-hacking: NoW reporter Neville Thurlbeck takes publisher to tribunal

Talk about trying it on.

Quote:

Ruth Neil, of employment law firm Stone Joseph, said that there are "very specific rules" in terms of what an individual whistleblower can claim under the act. She said to use it as a defence it was necessary to have reported any alleged wrongdoing to another person in authority, such as a police officer or other public servant.
A source familiar with the matter said Thurlbeck's use of the whistleblower's defence was "an extraordinary tactic to deploy".

Another link on that story.

Quote:

A reporter who is among the 16 people arrested and then freed on bail in the phone hacking case that has shaken Rupert Murdoch’s media empire in Britain warned his former bosses on Friday that he planned to break his silence on the scandal in a civil court case. He said that he would reveal those who were responsible for the phone hacking.
Mind the way I read this is 'Pay up or I spill the beans' rather than any desire to incriminate himself or anyone else.;)

Yes we shall see if he spills the beans as its alright threatening it but doing it is another matter.

Lord Prescott's phone action legal action against the News of the World publishers, News International, is being funded by the former Formula One boss Max Mosley, it emerged today.
The former deputy prime minister said he would not be able to bring the action for alleged phone hacking were it not for Mosley's financial offer.
So anyone without the finances and no access to a rich financier like Mosley is rather stuffed unless they can get public sympathy on their side such as the Dowlers.

And that means many people will miss out and thats a shame.

Just reading the latest Private Eye.

In their Number Crunching section.

Quote:

£2 million Compensation to be paid by News International to the parents of murder victim Millie Dowler.
£4 million Compensation to be paid by News International to former chief executive Rebekah Brooks for having to resign over the hacking and deleting

You don't get legal aid for civil proceedings and on balance that's a good thing. The nearest we currently have to civil proceedings without the cost is no-win-no-fee arrangements for personal injury and the like - and that system is royally screwing everything up for the majority of us via massive increases in insurance premiums.
