but the question is, how many are left to be done - does anyone here on 1meg still have a pace box that they're waiting to have swapped to a samsung ?

Why not start another survey?

Anywhere in the entire country?
Yes, no 1Mb STBs are done anywhere at all. That guy who's 1536x4 result was in the post was in Stafford, a non-STB area.

Reason being that the STBs are done by rolling out a new file and rebooting the relevant STBs remotely. No file rollout = no speed upgrade.

SACMs won't necessarily pick up the new speed with a reboot, they're not upgraded in the same way, with a single new file.

Ok, thanks for the info......any explanation for the occasional 1.5mbish bursts of speed that some of us are getting here (which I never had before I got my samsung)

Gimme your MAC and I'll check, but I'd suspect the usual margin of error in online speed tests - caps aren't 100% and speed tests aren't 100%, but over enough trials you usually get a good average - what's the average of eight trials?

Just got mine, Swindon, SN3:
Mon, 16 Aug 2004 19:48:57 UTC
1st 128K took 1468 ms = 89286 Bytes/sec = approx 743 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 1453 ms = 90208 Bytes/sec = approx 751 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 1454 ms = 90146 Bytes/sec = approx 750 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 1453 ms = 90208 Bytes/sec = approx 751 kbits/sec

I had a brief panic when browsing stopped, modem ready light flashed, then it came back on, and was noticibly quicker :)

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

I'm using EMule/bit Torrent etc and ever since I recieved the new samsung SMT 2100c EMule does not work correctly.

Downloads speeds are at 1-2k and upload speed decreases if my downloads increase. also browsing web pages is VEEERRRYY SLLOWW if EMule is running. When I close EMule web browsing speeds up. Downloading from web sites is fine just as long as I close EMule (Even if nothing is in the download queue)

I have tried deleteing the MAC address registration associated with my account then rebooting my STB and renew the IP on PC

The link doesn't work, it's got ... in the middle of it where it's been shortened by something.

Get some kind of bandwidth meter for your PC - Kerio Personal Firewall works pretty well, as it's not only a firewall but gives you bandwidth readings for every program that's using the internet as well. That might help you solve your problem.

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

It seems the only solution is to get my old pace box back. I'm on the 600k service so it can handle the 750k speed upgrade those of you on the 1mbit connection will have to chose between having either samsung 1.5mbit with no P2P OR the pace with P2P but no speed upgrade. Is this the beginning of the end for P2P?????????????

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

Is there any particular reason that you are using a STB instead of a SACM? On another note... have you tried changing all of your ports (This is possible in edonkey, don't know about emule). Of course, it might not be down to port checkers.... it may very well be that this new STB reads packet header information to see if you are using P2P and starts dropping those packets.

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

I think I will change over to a SACM also I have tried changing my ports but still does not work. Do you think it could be something in the Samsung Engineers menu ??.

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

If they have put packet sniffing technology into the samsung I doubt they would make it particularly easy to turn off (So no, it's probably not in the engineer's menu).
