From BBC site, and I agree with james

"Franck, London: PFA Player of the Year has to be Yaya Toure. He carries City in their games, unlike Luis Suarez who fails to score against the big teams in the big games.

James, Edinburgh: I think it's farcical that the awards night is tonight - the final two or three games are crucial and are the true tests of the character and ability of the players and managers.

Hmmm Sam Allardyce plays 19th century football while Mourinho is lauded as some kind of tactical genius.

Some of us paid to go and watch that today!

The trouble today Peter is we had no plan B and Mourinho knew that and thus parked two buses today which even Barcelona would have found hard to breach.

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Not pretty on the eye, but these days it's about results and results alone. Difference between today and West Ham, to me anyway and I am biased, is that we tried to score with the few chances we had. We were going to the leagues top scorers with a team that's not our best. We've struggled against that type of display all season, so there was no way Jose was going to set up to let Liverpool play their normal game and batter us. Same as when we went to City earlier this year.

There's no reason I see why they can't have it on the last day of the season, or the day after. Suarez will probably win, and he possibly deserves it. But he's gone off the boil lately I think, and he would have got his votes before that with maybe 7 or 8 games to go, depending when the vote was taken. You could say it's a vote for the first three quarters of the season, missing out the vital end of season run in.

Nearly all of them lol....But yeah, his all round game, his power and new found free kick skills give City so much. A goalscorer usually gets all the plaudits though, and the ones that do the dirty work get overlooked. To be fair to Suarez though, he doesn't take penalties, so you could imagine his total if he did.

He scored 30 goals this season and that's not been down on a regular basis plus he has let his football do the talking this season and that's a sea change from last season and on that basis even the most ardent non Suarez supporters would not argue that he did not deserve this accolade as many of his goal and assists have been genius like.

Team of the year in my opinion has to be Southampton in the PS followed by my beloved who have played way above expectations.

Unless there is a concerted campaign l somehow cannot see it being changed to the end of the season even though to me it would be a great idea but alas Gordon Taylor is a dinosaur in a modern age and he does not seem to like change.

If Debuchy was behind the keeper then that's your answer. Don't ask, it's a pretty messed up sub-rule inside the offside rule.

Just rewatched the goal. Based on the rule. Ozil is ahead of Krul (The offside line) Goal was offside. The rule applies because Debuchy was behind the keeper thus promoting Krul as the last defender.

Which makes it pointless really. However large the fine is, it's not going to be a credible sanction when you consider the money most of the higher rated clubs have. Don't get me wrong Colin, I'm not saying I want you or PSG punished. I've always said that FFP is farcical simply because different countries have different revenue from the TV payments and completely different criteria for work permits, giving a big advantage. That's just two points before the lawyers get involved. To work every club has to be equal. It was a Platini plan to restrict certain clubs taking advantage of a rich benefactor, and to stop the challenges to the old guard of teams who have a divine right to win every year. Wonder what the odds on Bayern scoring 5 are?

But United haven't made astronomical operating losses.

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

And that makes a difference how? The problem being addressed is bankrolling and Man Utd got bankrolled by the Chevy deal. GM sacked the guy who signed the deal.

I thought the FFP rulings were based on clubs not making excessive operating losses, not about bankrolling.

Yes but loopholes to artificially pump more money into clubs are to be closed. Work within your means.

Yep jupp was treated pretty shabbily imo and that's exactly what it was about, protecting the existing cartel of top clubs so they don't start a super league

The big clubs could still start a super league. I think it will happen eventually. They'll look at America and the success of the NFL and know that soccer is an even bigger cash cow around the world than American football and a franchise system across Europe means that not only is their asset more secure but also more valuable.

That might be true and even if the Chevy deal is a bit dodgy I can't see how United will be on the wrong side of the FFP as it stands. As I understanding it the rules are based around making huge losses with purchases of players and then covering them with cash the clubs didn't make from conventional business. United's Chevy deal doesn't seem to have been done that way although I'm pretty sure the rules will adapt in time.

I think that's the crux of the matter. Whereas NFL is obviously huge over there and in fairness is pretty popular in other countries I get the impression the bosses are starting to realise football will always have more worldwide appeal and likely bring in more revenue. As much as I dislike and distrust him and his family, Malcolm Glazier made a shrewd move.

Whats conventional about sacking a man that signed a mega sponsorship deal?

Something not being conventional does not necessarily make it unconventional, but still I don't see how the deal will cause United to fall foul of the rules as they stand now.

So fraud isn't necessarily unconventional?

The clue is in the name, financial fair play.

Quote:

It would be illogical for Uefa to offer clubs the harshest measures as settlements – clubs would simply reject and take their chances that the Club Financial Control Body’s adjudicatory chamber, which rubber-stamps FFP decisions, would take a more lenient view. So the two toughest punishments – being stripped of European titles and being banned from the Champions League or Europa League – can probably be discounted.
CFCB should tell them to do one if argued against  Thats hilarious. 'Its not fraud'.

Quote:

But that still leaves the following possible sanctions as part of settlements: a limit on the size of the squad clubs may register for European competitions (it has been suggested that PSG’s settlement may include their Champions League squad being restricted to 20 players rather than the usual 25); a block on fielding new signings in European competition (weakening teams and also making them less attractive destinations for top players); and the deduction of points, for instance at next season’s Champions League group stage. These three punishments are among the middle range of nine possible sanctions listed in Uefa’s rulebook. It should also be noted that any settlements are likely to be predicated on clubs adhering to FFP rules, or perhaps even tougher limits, in future seasons. Failure to do so would carry the threat of tougher action.
That doesn't sound too bad.

Quote:

Also, a club that feels it has missed out on European qualification (say Everton or Manchester United) because one of its rivals who broke FFP rules (say Manchester City) was not banned has the option of mounting a formal challenge and petitioning for a ban.
Oh great we're all going to have to hear Tottenham contesting everything whether its a PL team or not.

UEFA want to close loopholes and that sort of deal would come under the spotlight. They shouldn't have called it Financial Fair Play if its just about balancing books.

That's why we need fewer foreign owners especially American here, I'd love to know what their plans are for relegation from the super league, they won't like that.
