Just for info, I rang them back and they did the 50mb uprgrade straight away! I have the VMNG300

They also said that when they start the 50>>100>>120 they will be sending the Hubs out free!

According to http://doublespeed.virginmedia.com my area is being upgraded from July onwards ...

i wonder what BT's response to this will be, im guessing 40/10 being upgraded to 80/20 right?

BT already announced that 40/10 was being upgraded to 80/20 in May (8 months ago): http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/new...band_services/

It will be done this year at some point. The FTTP they have will be upgraded from 100mb to 300mb too.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

So, if Broadband package size M will get the same speed as L, will there be any savings dropping a tier to M from L after the speed change? Will M get the L Traffic management?

M doesn't exist apart from those already on it.

Broadband size M and L already have the same speed.

However, at the moment, M is cheaper than L and has a lower threshold before being Traffic Managed.

I would assume that the different thresholds will still apply and if not I will be interested to know what effect this will have on the price structure considering the reduction being made for the current 100MB subscribers who will be joined by the current 50MB tier on 120MB at the end of the "doubling" exercise..

Actually due to previous price changes customers on M are paying roughly the same as those on L

Makes me wonder why any one is still on M in that case. Maybe it's time that S and M disappeared and simplified the tier line-up.

Because to move customers across to L requires a code change on the system. That's fine when it's requested, but if you do that for all those on it, it could cause a lot of customers to call in as it would show up on the bill

Easier to do the same as Virgin are doing with 50 and 100Mbit. Make them them basically the same tier in everything but name via network changes

S is only there to offer to customers who only care about the cost of broadband, so generally is used by Customer Relations only

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

So, still trying to find out my best option post speed doubling. Currently I'm on L package http://www.virginmedia.com/images/tm-table-su-large.jpg, with fair use of 3,000 MB 10am-3pm etc.

After the speed change will I be on the L (http://bit.ly/ttI2Ra) limit of 40GB/month but at 20Mb/s, or the 7,000MB from the current XL 20Mb/s?

Using an Ambit 256, will a new modem be needed if I choose 30Mb/s now then 60Mb/s post speed doubling?

Anybody on L package have some plans or just sit tight?
