I have held my hand luggage on my lap during take off as I want to access as soon as I'm allowed.

I thought it might be a fan blade failure, they have kevlar lining in the of the cowl so any debit would be pulled into the engine causing the fire.

They where bloody luck as it would have had a fair bit of fuel on board

Most airlines insist on hand baggage stowed above or below seats

Yep fan blade failure is high on my suspect list.

What does get me though is the idiots who thought it was a good idea to rescue their hand luggage :( Do they not realise that a few extra seconds could have cost not only their own lives but many others :(

This

Absolutely outrageous that idiots did this.

Prosecutions should follow.

What annoys me is there a shed load of smoke on your side, then some muppet opens the emergency exit

I haven't seen any yet, but no doubt some Darwin Award nominee probably used their phone in portrait mode rather then get out of dodge.

It's doubtful that ISIS in that region have anything capable of taking out a plane at that altitude so I'm thinking a bomb on board is looking likely.

I'm wondering whether there were any journalists or other people that might have displeased the current Russian regime on board. :erm:

Rare for a plane to break up in air.
