Businesses that have no clue and don't listen to the customer.

Went into a shop for something the other day that would cost £800.
The guy then spends an hour trying to convince me to buy a model that costs £3600 with all bells and whistles.

1) I had my budget set.

2) I don't need all the bells and whistles. The main point of what I want it that it does one job, not a billion different things.

It's like going to buy a Fiesta and they try and sell you a Porsche.

LISTEN TO THE NEEDS OF THE CUSTOMER.

The result: He lost the sale and I went elsewhere.

No idea if its recent, but you can get 3mg tablets from several online uk pharmacies, just fill in the questionaire and they dispense it via private prescription.

So they can issue the script?

---------- Post added at 19:29 ---------- Previous post was at 19:20 ----------

I can only find them prescribable for jet lag and not very cheap. Plus the possible side effects could actually end up making root causes worse :( I tried Valarian root but then gave me palpations. An ounce of weed would last longer and have the same effect. Shame you can not get that prescribed for sleep disorders

Technically, yes, but you'll never see it, they just send you the meds.

Credit card companies. They can debit your account in a second, but a credit takes several days to apply...

I have paypal 3K credit. I use it when there is interest free offers on stuff but they are so slow to make adjustments on figures when you pay. They do scheduled payments so instead of you just clicking pay now and it doing a bank transfer it does it later that day or even the next day they takes days to update the account

---------- Post added at 20:45 ---------- Previous post was at 20:33 ----------

The paypal thing brings another pet hate of mine and that is credit in general

About 8 years ago now I got into a lot of financial trouble due to credit companies giving me access to way more credit than I could ever pay back and a breakdown that led me to just spend spend spend as a form of comfort. I got into 16K total debt. I took out an IVA and paid £105 per month which was literally all I had spare on a tight tight budget for 5 years and they then writ off the remaining £10k.

Within a month of me taking out the IVA I was approached in town by a Capital One credit card salesperson. She was really quite pretty so I spoke to her and told her I had no chance of being accepted. She said "I accept that challenge". I asked if she was on commission and if she got paid on a failed application and she said yes so I said consider this me buying you a drink and filled out the forms. They gave me the card with £500 credit even though I was in 16K of bad debt

5 years passed and the IVA was satisfied another year passed and it was no longer on my credit file. Since then I have taken out 3 credit cards(all had bonus sign up offers giving me Amazon vouchers and the like) Paypal credit, AO finance (had to buy a fridge freezer) and a Very catalogue account. Total possible credit somewhere around 10K. Maddest part of all the Very is one of the creditors on my IVA with a written off debt of around £2k yet they still gave me another account with the same amount of credit limit

I have learnt my lesson and will not ever get in trouble like that again. I budget strictly and only spend what I can afford but with my history and how things are in general it should be illegal for credit companies to give more credit than a person can possibly repay. All the credit agencies do searches and all the searches know your employment status and income so there is no excuse for them not to know

They do know, they just dont care that much. ;)

I worked at Experian for 10 years.
The credit business is just a risk managing business.
Sometimes they will lose out, but they make far more than they write off.

You can actually borrow up to £500 while you have an active IVA.

A completed IVA will lower your credit rating, but it doesnt stop you getting credit.
All it means is some will refuse you, the rest will take you on, but probably offer lower limits and/or higher interest rates.

IVA's get deleted from your credit report 6 years after they start.
(and from the Insolvency Register, three months after they complete).

I think there needs to be legislation because it can ruin lives and some people commit suicide. I promote IVAs and Debt Relief Schemes for those with lower debt and income but a lot of people will never hear about them and will spends years paying back a debt they should never have been allowed to accrue in the first place

Spent most of the day dealing with the fallout of the OH falling over in the bathroom at 6am and cracking his noggin so hard that required a trip to the emergency department and 7 stitches in his scalp. Could have done without the old I’m a tough old retired matelot attitude that stopped him going to the hospital until I photographed his 3 inch wound.

Hope the fearless warrior is OK this morning. Husbands <<sigh>>
<<<<<hugs>>>>> to you both.

My pet hate is having to defrost both freezers. Got it down to a fine art but still have to wait for the first one to get down to the right level before I can decant everything across and attack the second one. Can't leave them unattended as John insists on 'helping'.
 :D :D :D :D

He's off out with his mates for the day tomorrow so hopefully I can put up the Christmas Tree and decorations and save him having to 'help' me. No doubt he will still need to tweak the lights but a large G&T will help me relax while I listen to his critique.:D :D

Good idea to get any major head impact checked for concussion even without obvious injury.

I just stick it all in a big cardboard box. It's fine for a couple of hours.

I know what it's like Maggy, having been wakened several times over the last 2 years in the middle of the night with Mr T's seizures, and to nurse him when he broke his femur in July. I hope your old man is soon back to his old self again.x :sorry: :hugs:

Devastating news for sure for that couple and family, life can be very cruel sometimes, Jay.

Because of finding doing a large supermarket shop once a week such hard work as an OAP I turned to online ordering. However as the pickers have again and again proven that they don't really know what they are doing I regularly have to refuse items. Roast potatoes instead of chips? 10 fish fingers instead of 30? 8 mature less fat cheese slices instead of 10 MILD cheese slices?

Yes I guess it does sound petty BUT it does mean I have to go out and actually buy what I want which is what I was trying to avoid.

Never mind the 10 other substitutions I will accept because it just makes me have to go out and buy in person if I don't.Which would defeat the whole point of ordering online.

Sorry for the rant.

Jaymoss 05-12-2022 09:09

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8

you can add notes to the items or un tick subs for some products. Ocado for a lot of products even let you give a sub option on the order

Paul 05-12-2022 17:56

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8

As I recall, Asda let you set substitution products (as well as turn them off).

High turnover of staff for these jobs. My son did it for a bit. Getting up at 5am for little more than min wage for a few hours work isn't very attractive. Plus high pressure from the management if you don't do enough picks an hour means they shove anything to hand in. He lasted a couple of weeks like most staff.

I just hand them back.

My biggest bugbear is that I have always chosen Asda products because they are cheaper and just as good as popular brands but everyone seems to have cottoned on to this fact recently and as a consequence I seem to be farmed off with popular branded items.Luckily they have to be offered at the cheaper price.;)

My nieces best friend is a picker in Tesco, if you order say an 8 pack of Richmond sausages, but pick a different 8 pack the scanner makes a weird noise and they have to re do.

Got up 7 o'clock this morning for the plumber to fix our boiler with a part he said a month ago was needed after it's annual service. He told me he had had his appendix out, that is why he hadn't been in touch. He didn't arrive, but phoned me tonight as though nothing was untowards. Now I have to go through the whole thing again tomorrow, hope he arrives 7.45am as I have to go for a heart scan. :erm:

Have you changed how you use the heating, like don't put it on when you're in bed, put it on maybe an hour before you get out and reduce the temperature towards the end of the evening as there is no point heating the house just before you get in bed?

Also wear thermals on the legs that makes all the difference in my experience.

My heating comes on at 7am at the weekend at 20c then I reduce it to 19c through the evening then it goes off at 10pm, if I'm out the house then I'm trialing letting the smart thermastat drop it to 14c, not sure what effect that will have, with my heating off from 10pm to 7am the house stays at 10c in this weather.

I'm currently paying £83 a month with £374 in credit and my last statement was £137, I expect it will be atleast £50 more next month though with more heating being used when I am not at work, although I'm not sure what effect the smart Thermastat I fitted will do to it.

I had to cancel my PPV* (Pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine) jab this morning, as ironically enough, I’m still coughing my lungs up (with a streaming nose and breathlessness) with whatever RSV I’ve got, so tried to be thoughtful to others at the surgery…

Will re-book once my current symptoms have abated.

We have tried to cut down by using oil filled radiators and not leaving heating on whilst we are out, but to no avail.

Yesterday first thing in the morning, I had this horrendous pain in the middle back, breathing is difficult. Mr T had to do all the running around, it got so bad he phoned 999 at 10pm, I was on the floor by then. We waited 2 and a half hours, no sign and we were getting so tired he cancelled the abulance and we went to bed. I daren't sneeze or cough, does this sound like pleurisy? If so how long does it last? :(

We had problems with both of those with My Mum so l advised my Dad to go right up to the A&E department.

Thank god we did that.

In good news today Mum has shown a good improvement and might be allowed home befoe Christmas.

The bad news is she is considered too much of a high risk given she has several other medical conditions to have a operation.

Mum has had to be readmitted to hospital after collapsing late last night going to the bathroom, she required 4 paramedics to get her up from the floor and is now in the surgical assessment unit.

Sorry to hear that, I hope she didn't spend too long waiting in the ambulance when she got to the hospital. It's times like these you realise how much we need our NHS staff.

I'm having to make do with no heating or hot water from now until sometime after Christmas at my parents house, luckily the weather isn't too cold and we have a few electric heaters so the main problem will be washing!

I got into the habit in the wintertime of filling some containers with (very cold) tapwater well in advance of needing it. That way, it'll warm up a little and won't have your teeth chattering and bits shrinking. ;)

It also means less energy is needed to bring it up to the boil for cooking or hot drinks.

Yes, error code C1 which according to the internet means fan or PCB, likely PCB because we can feel the fan turning.

But we have different priorities now seeing we can't fix the boiler a elderly family member is in bed all afternoon/evening pretty ill and after over 1hr we got through to 111 and they said doctor will phone back soon.....well that was 2hrs ago....

I've got a migraine, first one for some time and feeling pretty fed up. One of the lovely effects of having a bad neck.

Dosed up with co-codamol to try and get through the boxing day bash we're going to but all I really want to do is lay down in a dark cool room.

Well the doctor eventually phoned around midnight and after doing some checks on him and the fact that he had improved slightly the ambulance was cancelled, and I'm pleased to say he was alot more normal yesterday, the best we could hope for from someone with his health issues.

As for no hot water or heating, all we can do is make use of a kettle and jug for washing and a couple of fan heaters, just glad it's pretty mild out compared to the -6c the week before.

It appears its going to stay mild for at least the next 2/3 weeks.

Don't use social media, unless CF counts...
Hijack my wife's FB to find out what's going on at my local football club. They think she's a very keen, if controversial, supporter ;)

That is only because of a snobbish attitude towards it. We have a community of members and hordes of posts based on entertainment media and news media we even have some posts of what we had for dinner. We share information opening and we communicate between ourselves. We even have messaging

Oh and I have used forums and message boards for over 20 years and I think forums are a social media platform

I avoid any of that Nextdoor crap lol,. My problem there is nothing wrong with the TV it's a perfect size 49in high end TV that's 5 years old, I would rather trade it in than give it away, but no idea if it's easily possible to trade such a big item.

I guess it accidentally needs to break...... but I'm not that kind of person.

You can not take it with you. If you want and can afford a new TV buy it you could die tomorrow. Give your old TV away or put it in your bedroom or give it a family member

Cobblers, if ain't broke, don't fix it or waste money on a new one. My 12 year old lcd tv works fine and the sound quality a lot better than the modern crap. Uhd is pointless unless your TV takes up the whole of the room.
Spend money on structural home improvements.... Or a nice holiday :)

Thanks for this, unfortunately the bedrooms are not big enough for a curved 49in I've already measured and parents don't want it if I did go ahead and blow money on a new telly.

Thanks I will look into the trade in on those sites but don't think Samsung cover my 49KS9000 for trade in and their site never plays well when browsing on Android.

I've been bedridden since last Tuesday, pain was almost unbearable, turns out the old spinal fracture of 5years has affected bones further up. Ambulance men pumped me full with morphine, I was allowed home the fillowing day for bed rest. Mr T has been my rock, waiting on me night and day, I was so looking forward to celebrating our 46th on New Year's Eve.
