Well because it is simple it isn't what I want. If I tried to upgrade via the website and got something like "sorry this is unavailable to you right now due to blah reason" I would be annoyed yes but not half as bad as having it then someone taking it back of me after.

Also others did ring CS as well to ask for new modem's I wasnt the only one, but it seems I was the only one who got downgraded as a result, I know now I should have left alone but I am not psychic.

I am perhaps wound up more then other's because many aspects of my service are not satisfactory at the moment and this just added to the pile, ntl just cant do anything right for me at the moment, the 2nd guy apologised for what the 1st guy did and said it was harsh but was powerless to fix the problem.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

As I have not spotted any post / information that tells us what area has been done, what is coming next and so forth, I tried the Web Route to upgrade. All I got was BUND03 Service with no Price on there. I am guessing this is 3mbit, so i never went ahead and clicked this.

I saw a post on the other thread from a Guy in my sort of region - so I give CS a call. The Answer I got was "Its been trailed at the moment", "We will email you when it is avaialble" and I asked him if my modem could cope, been as its a Motorola SB4100. He Assured me it will cope no problems and if required they would provide a New modem anyhow.

Next is all this talk about 10mbit not been 10mbit and maybe 5-6 type of thing. Now if you go out and get yourself a 11mbit Wireless router / Card - will you get 11mbit?? Of course you wont, you will get 5-6 im sure if you speed test it. Much the same for Wired Network cards really - you normally only get max 80% with a well configured set up.

So I suppose the question is thus - do we just sit tight till end of Dec and see what happens? Is there a list somewhere of the areas done we could check against? I see conflicting posts, one says Staggered roll out and other say trailing in various areas - which is it?

Right have I got this right.

I phoned for the 10Mb upgrade and know get between 5 - 7Mb

Because my area hasn't been set up for the upgrade explains why I don't get the full whack, when it has been set up hopefully end of Dec I should then get 10Mb.

Or my Terayon cannot handle the 10Mb and will need replacing

(I've read here that it can and cannot handle the speed and NTL CS told me it can handle way beyond this, what do I believe)

It's "up to". If anyone gets a steady 10Mbps, I'd be surprised. :)

Give it time, see if improves - if, in a couple of months time, you're not getting pretty high speeds at 4am, then it's certainly something to think about.

But, before then, I'm sure we'll have a definitive 'the Terayons can handle..' update. :)

You might be only two streets away but you may not be on the same UBR.

There is a lot of complaining about not being able to get the full 10 Mbps which anyone who knows a little bit about how cable internet works would have known would happen. There are several hundred customers on each UBR but only around 38 Mbps to share amongst them and an allowance has to be made for overheads which reduces this further. It doesn't take too many brain cells to realise that if only four users on that UBR are online and trying to max out their connections that they won't get the full 10 Mbps. It is very unlikely though that only four users are online at one time, there will be far more than that, probably in excess of 100. What share of 38 Mbps will they each get if there are 100 and all trying to max out their connections at the same time? If you have been upgraded to 10 Mbps already and are getting 5 Mbps or more then you are lucky. The chances are that it won't get better with time, only get worse as more and more users are upgraded.

According to a message on ntlhell:
CS told one customer that this upgrade was only temporary, ntl will roll out 20Mb in about 6 months. :Yikes:

In your particular case, you say that you are "prepared to wait", but also that you phoned up to request the upgrade. Anyway, from what you have said above it appears to be another case of bad communication in that CSRs serving Glasgow were told to upgrade people who requested and that the area was ready. Who knows exactly what they were told. Anyway, you were given the upgrade because you asked for it and they had been told to give it to those that asked for it. You were also well aware that it was still being rolled out, so how you can be unhappy with something that is faster yet is still in the implementation stage is a bit suprising to me.
When I called NTL to ask about the upgrade from 3MBit to 10Mbit, I didn't expect to get it but was told I could have it. AT THAT TIME I was lead to believe everything was in place for 10Mbit in my area - it's only now I have discovered that my area isn't ready. Initially, the guy wasn't 100% sure his system would accept the upgrade instructions but when the order was processed he stated that the 10Mbit service must be available in my area. I was also warned that as I'd called just prior to 8pm that the upgrade might not go through that night but it obviously did.

Currently, I'm only getting about 4Mbit downstream. When I said I was "prepared to wait", I meant that I would wait and see if my speed would improve after the upgrade to 10Mbit - I've been saying that I'm prepared to wait while further work is undertaken.

So ok Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢m only on 1MB and happy to wait but could someone please tell me will NTl replace my 120 Modem for this new 250 one. I cant believe it I actually had an engineer out with a replacement DC for the modem and he brought out what I take was a blue 250 and took the DC out of the box and I should have asked can I have that new modem.

Thats some job replacing all the modems.

I also see this BUNDO3 with no price (and No 3Mb option) - what happens if you click it?

Is there something wrong with the Adslguide speedtest?

Been having varying results, which doesn't tie in with results from Robin Walker's site (10mb), or the download speeds i am getting (1.2mb/s). I am, according to the Adslguide speed test, running at between 5mb and 9mb.... just doesn't add up :erm:

I also find that a lot of the time, the Adslguide speed test isn't working, something i haven't seen before (unless its upgraded NTL customers doing what i am doing) :p:

They're not replacing all the modems. Unless your NTL 120 has something wrong with it causing it not to give you a decent degree of service, I see it as a bit pointless requesting a new one. :)

If everyone did that, prices would have to go up to cover the cost. :td:

Running the Tweak Test from here http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks showed that my RWIN value was not optimised. After changing it, the speed test showed a higher & more consistent speed.

I am not on 10Mb (yet) so can't check it myself.

did that speed test and got this result

Wed, 09 Nov 2005 23:00:09 GMT
1st 128K took 156 ms = 840205 Bytes/sec = approx 6991 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 141 ms = 929589 Bytes/sec = approx 7734 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 156 ms = 840205 Bytes/sec = approx 6991 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 156 ms = 840205 Bytes/sec = approx 6991 kbits/sec

These results appear to be rather fast: maybe this page was in the browser cache.

my upgrade should of happened last night did it?
