You told us Netflix is already the gold standard of movies and TV content , unless your considering watering down their current offering.

No, that is your assumption, but it is not what I meant. I’m talking about additional quality content such as concerts, sport and early viewings of new films, etc.

So basically spend more on content ?

Paid for with the premium content subscriptions.

So basically become the equivalent of Sky ? Wouldn’t that also mean those on lower tiers would see their prices increase whether interested in Sport or not ?

What's the business logic in taking Netflix into this direction and spreading itself more thinly? It's secured a good niche in standardised global on-demand entertainment content.

Why would that impact on the lower tiers? I was suggesting that subscribers could be offered a more expensive tier with exclusive content. It would be the people who subscribed to that more expensive tier who would pay for it.

All tiers contribute to the money pot whether they labelled as for something specific or not. Tiers in all businesses that have them cross subsidise to a greater or lesser extent. Some tiers are more viable than others.

That may be how Sky and Virgin do it, but that doesn’t have to be the case.

Anyway, the point I’m making is that there is scope for Netflix to increase income and reduce expenditure and start paying off its debts.

How do they reduce expenditure by buying more rights?

That’s revenue, not expenditure.

Yes, but I was talking about reduced expenditure in relation to current subscriptions. The increased expenditure on additional premium content would come from additional receipts.
