Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

I think the issue people are having is that even 2 things are being recorded watching live tv is in effect a third recording to allow for pausing rewinding etc.

Each recording in the TiVo is seen as a discrete entity, this is why even if two things are recorded on the same channel two tuners are needed.

Technically it would be possible to use a single recording entity and index where recordings one and two start and stop within the recorded 'block'. This would be a lot more difficult to do and the way things are stored on the hard disk jumping into a recording is not exact and can result in strange artifacts on screen among other things.

Just my thoughts on the current limitations

Anybody know how to change which TiVo records when you set up the record via remote record?

Does the new iPad app allow that?

Really? I've always been able to go forward more than 9 days and have full listings. Thankfully normal service has now resumed. I can go forward up until Friday the 26th October 2012 with full listings for all channels, and partial information for Saturday the 27th October 2012. If you include today, that means I've got 14 full days of EPG information from the BBC. Witness it below :D

The terrestrial channels do release 14 days of info, but they only do it once a week (on a Friday I think). So as the week goes on, the guide data will gradually diminish.

Haven't VM allowed third party apps on TiVo for ages with Spotify etc?

I think this is opening it up more. So anyone can start creating apps for Tivo, they don't have to have a commercial agreement to do so. Although Tivo don't seem to want to just let anything be released, so we won't see 100s of fart applications.

They also seem to be releasing an API for communicating with Tivo, so hopefully it will mean we see more iPhone and Web Apps from third partys.

Got the new app and I can't find any option to choose which TiVo to record on.

Just been playing about with the bundle builder on the Virgin website, to see package prices etc...

I was shocked at some of the pricing. If you want TiVo as your main box you pay £5.00 per month for it. If however you want a second TiVo box, say for your bedroom, the second box will cost a further £11.50. Surely Virgin aren't charging people £16.50 per month to have 2 boxes? Maybe I'm missing something as that doesn't seem right.

£5 TiVo fee per box + £6.50 multiroom = £16.50.

I would love to know but I don't think I will get the answer is long does it take for a TiVo enabled box to make a profit in rental terms?

Not really that important but has Tivo changed the screen you see when rebooting? I very rarely reboot, but just done it now and it just stays on a black screen (with a small clock symbol on) and then the the main Tivo menu screen appears. Previously I had the red background with a message on saying something along the lines of 'just a few minutes longer'. I think overall the process may have been a little quicker, but I did think it may have stalled when the black screen stayed there for so long.

In a word, yes. And you are right that it is quicker.
