Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg

Got the email today saying we'd been upgraded and should register for our 10mb upgrade. Having already registered I rebooted the modem, ran a speed test and lo and behold I'm still on 2mb.

I don't mind having to wait until my area is upgraded but don't please VM don't tell me it has been done and then let me find out otherwise. That's called shooting yourself in the foot.

Areas are also staged rollouts as far as i know (usually over a few hours).failing that phone faults and ask them to check your account settings/resend signals. Both my father and I both had this problem and this was resolved by a quick phonecall

Thanks. Looks like I'll have to give Faults a call.

I like VM and the ESPN on XL is excellent but sometimes they try my patience.

Well what a funny day!!

My internet was on this morning then it went off ...... I did wonder whether our area was being upgraded. Rebooted ... again and again .... no internet. Then realised the TV was off too but the phone had a dial tone. Later on this afternoon phoned 151 and spoke to India and checked settings etc ... all okay ... but then the internet was on ... but my speeds have been 4 ish when I have been getting 9 ish.

Really weird day.

There weren't any faults listed when I could check - but there have been faults before which don't get listed until a couple of days after they exist

Just re-checked my speeds and they are back to normal now !!

OK, well I waited a bit and didn't get the upgrade to 10mb despite being registered for it. Then I phoned Faults and they said they'd sort it from their end but I should give it 24 hours. It's now coming up to 48 hours and I'm still on 2mb.

Is there some problem getting this upgrade in NG7? I don't really know what to do next.

10 meg is brilliant and very stable I can't fault it at all, but I am the olny virgin broardband user in my street, perhaps that increases reliability.

regards Nigel.

Hi squealy, I had the same problem, so I called them and they said the same thing to me 24 to 48 hours !!! I called them back and the guy I talked to told me I needed a new modem so he ordered one I got it 2 days later wired it up and it's working ok now, I don't always get 10 megs but I'm pleased.

I finally got upgraded to 10 meg at the weekend, but using the speedtest at the top of the page I never get above about 5.2 meg. I have rebooted the modem several times ( NTL 120 ). Are there any other checks I can do before phoning Virgin?

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg

I'm sure everyone is just fascinated by my travails with this upgrade so here's an update:

Upgraded here in NG7 as of yesterday.

I guess I should have counted 24 working hours rather than expecting it to be done on a weekend or Bank Holiday.

One problemo - only achieving speeds of 3.3mb max. It turns out the NTL Home 100 modem won't support 10mb (despite VM website saying the modem was fine for 10mb when I registered). A nice man called Abi (sp?) in India said he'd get a new one sent to me pronto, free of charge. :tu:
