Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8

When you find out things you really wish you hadn't about someone.

For the best part of almost a decade, I was involved in a massive struggle to see my son - those who know, know.

It was a pretty acrimonious set-up, not helped by the fact I live around 170 miles from him.

Court had been involved which I never have wanted but my hand was forced as I was left with no other option.

Thankfully these days I get to see my boy regularly and I'm proud to say he absolutely loves his Dad.

The relationship between his parents has over the past 4 years or so had plenty of ups and downs but overwhelmingly more 'downs'. I was once besotted with her but I've long since moved on and so has she - all the power to her.

There have been a few court appearances this year but over the past 6 month or so things have been fairly cordial between us which I'm proud of. I'll be completely honest here, whereas she's acted in some very underhanded ways, I've also behaved in ways I'm certainly not proud of but I own it and pledge to do better.

So with all that being said, over the past few weeks, I get to find out things she's said and done about me over the years, even stretching back to when we were together. What happens is when she has an argument with some of her friends and cuts them off, they invariably get in touch with me and say "you really ought to know what she's been saying about you etc".

Generally these revelations just bounce off me as she's the past to me. She can live her life however she wants and absolutely why wouldn't she?

But when it involved things she told the kids (she has 2 daughters from a previous relationship who during our time together saw me as their 'dad'), especially my son I tend to lose my brown-stuff.

I really do appreciate how she seems to be trying really hard to be cordial with me regarding things about our son and of course it's my responsibility to be reciprocal but when stuff gets back to me (and it's genuine things that could only have come from her) it's getting harder and harder to grit my teeth and say nothing.

Rant over.

You don't need me telling you this but you're doing the right thing, at least whilst things are going well, she doesn't visit this place anymore then?

Rant over.

You are brilliant Dad Russ and, as I have already said, his love for you shines in your son's face when you are together.

No matter what has been said, or done, in the past nothing can stop him loving you and, as he gets older, he will appreciate even more what you had to go through to be able to see him.

I always keep bread in the fridge and it does last longer. As a singleton I do not get through a loaf quick enough and I noticed it going sour before I could finish a loaf so I refrigerated it and it is fine now till it is finished

We split our loaf into 3 freezer bags with 6 slices in each and freeze it and then take out each bag as we need it.

We buy a fresh sliced seeded loaf but after a couple of days it goes in the freezer. It can be toasted direct.

People who still use mobiles while driving, yesterday I was a blond woman looking at the phone in her right hand and struggle to turn with the left.

I mean, it's only been about 14 years ago the law changed.

These people need to be banned immediately and made to take the 3 extended driving tests, and no hardship pleas accepted

Realised this has been a problem for a while but I googled paper plate shortage today and found out its a real thing. A paper shortage in general!

Not a lot to say apart from my Dad passed away suddenly last week in his sleep. Totally out of the blue and has totally shocked us all. Its the last thing we needed as my mum only passed away in November last year.

Was chatting on the phone to him last Sunday afternoon and he was fine, seems like he went to bed and never woke up. When we all realised no one had heard from him for 2 days we went to the house last Wednesday and had to break in with the Police he was just lying in bed.

At least he looked peaceful and is now with my mum again. They had been married 53 years. I am in pieces and a week later still can't believe I won't get to speak to him again.

I have conifers that unfortunately I let go and it is now the local nesting site for loads of Doves. I counted 15 in my garden one day. This of course also attracts a hawk and have lost a few doves this season

Shame we can't get them to only do in the pigeons but they are behaving normally and it's nice that they are around and not just all getting killed for being hawks.

<<hugs>> I have a friend on FB who gets negative comments from one of their friends who always comes over as being very sure that she is so much better at living her life. I don't really remember her ever showing any support, understanding or humour. Maybe she is a nicer person in real life.

If you always use the same brand just keep a lid to use after you viciously stab the offending inanimate object to release the vacuum.

It's almost impossible to get a face to face appointment, I usually get a 'telephone consultation'. But if you are fortunate to get an appointment, there is hardly anyone in the waiting room, even taking covid into consideration.

Don't slam the door too often or you may end up having the door knob fall off leaving you locked in the room until SOMEONE decides it's safe to turn his hearing aid back on and open said door. Also don't kick the door on your way out because you could end up with a bruised toe!!!!!

Sounds interesting Grim, I have googled, and it appears there are several models, if it is the one with self adhesive pads, are these pads replaceable? What model do you have? I am open to all pain relief remedies, if anyone else likes to offer suggestions. In the meantime I am still waiting for the doctor's return phone call, I won't hold my breath.

I have and use this one...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The pads last quite a while and they are cheap enough to replace. And it's rechargeable. They've come a long way since the early models with the dials which use a 9v battery. (Which I still have). They do work, they are also good for massaging aching or tired muscles too.

Got a letter from the NHS saying I am eligible for my Covid seasonal booster, went to their link and answered all their questions and at the end it said it wasn't yet available to me but would be in Autumn 2022!

We had ours on Saturday, pretty uneventful.

I flew from there once. Don't remember it being worse than any other El Al flight.

I love the way VM decided I no longer need a landline.I now have to try and remember who to contact that it's a defunct no and which mobile to ring instead.

Could be that it was the weekend before Rosh Hashanah, but the queue was out of the door at T3, plus you have pre check in security questioning & passport checks, then bag drop, then another five security checkpoints before getting to your gate.... then your light is normally delayed...

Have water on the kitchen floor. Plumber shows it's not mains. What we think is that the soakaway is clogged up so rainwater isn't draining away so it's soaking into wall then coming up through the floor. House insurer contacted referred to drainage company.
We think the soakaway could be other side of shed and decking. Hope the "<beep>" pay.

A bit sad, a building I used to work in looks like it's going to be beyond saving after catching fire earlier tonight. A listed building that used to be the City Of Leeds Girls School before it became a council office and was full of original features.

Our water issue was a burst main under the kitchen. Why the first plumber didn't do the basic check and turn off water at road saving lots of hassles and nigh on 3 weeks of mopping up close to 100l/day. At least metre was broken so didn't register it.

Now waiting for report from Dynoplumb to insurers can work out if they pay and what they pay for any damage. On the plus side we did find the damaged rainwater drain and have that sorted.

We've been woken up the last 2 mornings 6am with the smoke alarm going off. No smoke, and the alarm has a replacement date of 2033!

That would suggest to me that it could be faulty Tinky unless something outside near your area is drifting in through open windows or doors but seeing it was raining cats and dogs this morning that would be highly unlikely.

Does the timing coincide with anything, such as a central heating boiler, switching on?

I reckon it is faulty, does not coincide with any boiler etc settings. Unfortunatly I can't remember where I bought it. A friend suggested I contact the local fire station and get their men to test, can't do that, seeing all these handsome young men in uniform could be too much for this old heart lol! Safer to buy a new one. :D

Iphones, do my head in.

Got one for work. Took ages to work out how to get it go to go into landscape mode.... Everything else is difficult to control. Every update seems to change settings back to what they want rather than you've set....

I shall stick to my trusty Android.

I find both systems good, in their own way - I have an Android phone and an iPad Pro tablet (not had the "settings" issue you refer to, neither has SWMBO on her iPhone or iPad).

I suppose it’s what you’re used to that is sometimes the issue - anything "different" can be a challenge for some…

Recommend melatonin tablets, as a safe sleep inducer. Needs a prescription , but you can usually get it mail order from abroad.

Not available in the UK unfortunately, even on prescription. But they are great. I pick them up in the supermarket whenever I'm in the US.

The doc may well prescribe something else though

Haha

I had a heart scare a few years ago and as you can imagine quite wound up so they gave me a diazepam. I think there has only ever been 1 time I have ever been more relaxed that that and that was when I attained Nirvana in a tent in Great Yarmouth coming down off an acid trip hahaha

Would love a few diazepam every now and again to catch up hahaha
