I don't know if there are similar changes for other Box Nation customers or just those through BT Sport. Behind the scenes, Premier Sports who licence the Box Nation brand will be rebranding to Via Play from November in line with their new parent company and BT Sport is now jointly owned with Warner Brothers Discovery.

BoxNation with BT Sport
From Friday 4 November 2022, BoxNation will no longer be available to new BT Sport customers and from Thursday 17 November 2022, BoxNation and any recordings from the channel will no longer be available to existing BT Sport customers.

I’m amazed BoxNation is still a thing.

I'm not sure what Viaplay will do with it. They may be obliged by the contract inherited from Premier Sports to keep it going for a bit. Time will tell.

Never watched anything on it. I take it it's a pay per view service?

It was a subscription service that had Frank Warren cards (now on BT) and overnight boxing from the states most weekends. They did one pay per view event.

They’ve not had meaningful live boxing in about 5 years. If not longer.

Ok thanks. Sounds like it won't survive much longer

I wonder if it will end on 17 November on all platforms?

BoxNation schedules currently end on 11th November - but that is normal (two weeks).

Was basing this question on BoxNation leaving BT Sport on 17th November and Viaplay not saying anything either way about its future.

Viaplay has however said FreeSports will continue as Viaplay Extra and Premier Sports 1 and Premier Sports 2 will become Viaplay Sports 1 and 2 respectively.

I did see web site reports that Viaplay may launch extra channels not broadcasting sports but Documentaries.

I cant post link as I forgot it.

Also Boxnation only changed transponder on Sky on October 26th.

From my weblink, Viaplay offers Nordic films and TV series too. They've not said anything about using this content to establish and entertainment channel but it's possible they could decide to do this in place of BoxNation.

Could Viaplay snap up EFL TV rights?

According to The Times, Sky UK and Viaplay are both in the race for the next rights to the EPL from Season 2024.

RXTV feels Warner Bros Discovery/BT Sport may also enter the race.

I heard that they intend to start a film/entertainment channel. Perhaps they will be repurposing the Boxnation capacity for this??⁵
