I was rather pleased when someone started this thread - it confirmed there was no quality problem on the 4-per-mux channels.

The capacity is there to be used. It would be wasted if we DIDN'T use it.

Can you list which of those channels are grouped as 4 HD channels and which are only 3 or 2 HD channels grouped? It would seem odd for Virgin to squeeze 4 channels into a mux when it wasn't required (in 2011 they had far less HD channels than now).

Or should we go and ask Sirius on Digitalspy who seems to know more about what is testing in the background than most?

Why would they need to make space? Wasn't there 23 hd Channels during the Olympics?

And they'll be needed again in a couple of years time.

Ginx TV not going HD.

My sources has updated me tonight saying Ginx HD is not going to happen as they don't have the funds to launch one.

Ginx HD has also been removed from my list http://mediaboyblog.blogspot.co.uk/p...y-come-to.html

Sounds interesting. Have you been participating in SKY's Market Watch? They've been canvassing customers in the research group since early March on the deals, offers and collections offered by all rival services. I think they've found it quite eye opening which makes me wonder if these new bundles and prices will reflect the feedback they received.

I was coming from the angle that VM were squeezing more HD channels into a mux due to capacity issues.

If the system has been future proofed and there aren't any capacity issues, it won't cost VM any more to utilise any extra capacity that they take (unlike those taking extra space on Freeview or satellite).

That's why I've asked him the question. It could also go some way to explaining why some channels are perceived to have better quality than others.

I can't be bothered to list them all, but it includes Eurosport, Nat Geo and Discovery, which all scored well in that poll.

It's called planning ahead. Do you remember these much-quoted words from Neil Berkett the December 2010 results presentation?
"with a path to grow to 80 HD channels over the next two years, or three years"
He didn't just pluck that figure out of thin air. That was the capacity we had reserved for HD channels.

"Could" is fair enough, some employees clearly don't know what they're talking about, post on here and expect their status as an employee to give credibility to what they're saying even when it is clearly wrong. What usually happens is that you arrive to correct them!

By "capacity we had reserved" does that mean 80 is the current maximum, or has that changed since 2010?

A maximum of 80 doesn't feel very future proof.
