A year to 18 months.

Bt has spent a lot of money on sport. It wants to attract people to its platform not someone else's. But I agree with Fries, eventually BT will need to recoup that money and wholesale, but not yet.

Sorry Horizon but deals can be sealed very quickly nowadays and one suspects there have been top level talks on a day to day basis since those meetings and the result of that is a deal has now been agreed in my humble opinion.

So why would they put bt sports 1 and 2 on their website virgin anywhere live today?
Makes no sense unless they going to be releasing them.

Bt have the rights for 3 years. 18 months is mid term, not short term, surely?

If it isn't on VM by the PL kick off then the value of the product on offer goes down IMO.

Anyone know how many people have the XL pack? If VM pay BT £3 per XL subscriber i'd bet that will bring in more than BT would get in subs from a standalone via VM (even tho i don't know the figure).

But they have the rights to FA Cup and SPFL for longer.

Well, obviously, by 12.45 on Saturday which is the first game that BT will show, we'll all know either way.

All I would add is that I would question what has changed between when the Liberty people met BT three weeks ago and now. Nothing, would be my answer. VM/LIberty know what price BT want for their stuff and I don't see that changing in the short term.

Just like ESPN had the rights to various sports for longer, the next company will just buy out the remaining contracts.

BT would not allow VM to put placeholders on VM anytime today for nothing and VM to give out new channel numbers for ESPN

Meaning no disrespect to the greatest cup competition in the World, or the exciting new restructure of the Scottish league, but you and I both know that it's the Premier League rights that will sell subscriptions and that, rightly or wrongly, it is those rights which will determine the value of the channel.

Another poster on here already said that Vm's managment ordered the network people to prepare for BT sports launching, in the event that a deal was done.

They can prepare all they want and have webpages ready, doesn't mean its actually going to happen.

Why don't we all just wait until 12.45 Saturday? If BT Sports appears, then that is great for those people that like football.
