That's the worrying thing, I DON'T see him booted. They signed him on a megabucks deal that they won't want have to pay out on with a replacement on a similar contract. Don't get me wrong I wanted him sacked by half-time today but they'll probably give one more year and a massive transfer budget providing he offloads players at the same time.

The risk of course is he uses his second year to further destroy the club, something I have a bad feeling he'll succeed in doing, all the while maintaining that "I don't have a clue how to manage a team of this size" look on his face.

What a team that beat utd and is chasing champions league and therefore as a team doing better than utd, surely it's fergies fault anyway, he gave him the job.

This United team is technically stronger than the one that won the league by 11 points last season.

It's also technically a year older and more prone to injury plus the competition is better than twelve months ago, this season has been in the post a while and has finally arrived, it would've come no matter who was in charge.

Also Alex Ferguson is a better manager and couldn't have been replaced like-for-like anyway.

True but only the most incompetent manager with zero experience of managing a club of this size could take a stronger team and oversee them perform worse than any other in more than 20 years.

That takes exceptional talent.

I don't know. It wasn't exactly a unspoken theory that Fergie was going at the right time when he left. The team had a weak midfield and an ageing defence and needed a lot of work. Moyes couldn't have come in at a worse time from his point of view.

There's no doubt that the current United team is one of the weakest in some time however SAF was about to get last year's performance out of them. While no other manager would be able to repeat that even an above-decent one would find it difficult to drag the team down to the level we're at now.

denphone 21-04-2014 06:49

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

The thing with Man Utd is in the next month do they stick and give David Moyes up to £200 million this summer and hope he gets the right players in or do they twist and decide that he is not up to the job and get a big name in?.

Russ 21-04-2014 07:30

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Well yeah!!

That's the risk factor I mentioned. What if they give him another year to bring in the right players which will obviously cost a lot of money and he continues to ruin the club? They aren't likely to agree another big transfer budget if he doesn't bring enough success to fund it.

This is why I still can't see why they brought in a manager who hasn't won any club trophies and has zero experience at this level.

Sir Alex was a great manager but basically to allow him to have such a influence in picking the next manager was folly in my opinion.

Who would have thought at the start..that Liverpool would win the league..and Atletico Madrid the spanish league.

The odds would have been good :)

Could be a bear with a sore head later, if Stevenage get only a point or lose today then it is back to League 2. Graham Westley needs to be sacked in the summer he has done just as good a job as Moyes this season, or worse. At least United haven't been flirting with relegation for most of the season.

Possible but I'd lean towards Van Gaal at the moment. Man Utd will have to pay Moyes off and if they go with say Klopp thats compo for Dortmund + a mega contract whereas Van Gaal only needs a contract. Also bear in mind Man Utd does need a bit of investment. Man Utd might be a cashcow but they havent got a bottomless pit of money. Having said all that Man Utd will most probably have a caretaker until the end of the season... Giggs?

Apparently the NY Stock Exchange hasn't been told and they're required to be told if he is being fired. As a result the shares have started rallying again after going down upon initial reports. If United are delaying the announcement it could get them in trouble.

If they've made the decision and don't disclose it the NYSE will be asking questions. It designed to stop insider trading and so forth. Effectivelly you can't have the stock market open with some shareholders knowing more about issues that will impact upon the share price and others not knowing.

Ofcourse same with Wengers contract but theres room to maneuver in. Man Utd don't need to declare serious talks or serious consideration of sacking Moyes. Until their dead certain nothing needs to be declared so Honigstein might have a point where Man Utd are making him sweat or trying.

They're a professional business listed on the stock exchange. They have to abide by their rules. Now we don't know who they've told, if anyone, I am just stating the fact that if they have made a decision they need to tell the stock exchange sharpish or fall foul of their selective disclosure rules which will prompt charges. They're defence would have to be better than 'you can do one'.

Pretty much.

What will happen to Fergie now if this happens. Carry on as director, reinstalled as manager, leave ?

If van gaal has any intention to hang around long term, which I don't think he has incidentally then he should ask utd to ban fergie from the ground for the good of the club.

Anyone else see moyes going to Tottenham

If Chelsea beat Liverpool and City win their game in hand then it could go down to goal difference which City currently lead.

Liverpool hardest game on paper is Chelsea

Man City hardest game on paper is Everton

so nothing certain

So apparently Moyes had a stipulation in his contract that said if he got terminated before the end of the contract he would be paid 1 years salary, £4.5 million, as compensation. You wonder what was the point of the 5 years then really? Seems to have tied him to the club but not they to him.

Same as pardews Newcastle contract, it's done so the club gets maximum compensation should they be poached

Who would you like as your new chosen one Russ?.

Russ 22-04-2014 08:58

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Who'd like and who I think it'll be aren't necessarily the same - all along I wanted it to be Mike Phelan as I reckon only SAF knew the team and club better but he's not a 'name' and I don't know if he'd attract players. In the interim I'd say either Phelan or Giggs but in the long term I think Louis Van Gaal could be a good idea. He could get another good season out of RVP plus unlike Moyes he's experienced at this level and has actually won things.

denphone 22-04-2014 09:00

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Other potential candidates would be Klopp , Ancelotti and Simeone and Ancelotti has got previous title winning experience in the Premiership.
