Rump steaks from Lidl with Porcini mushroom butter. Absolutely superb, griddled medium-rare. Onion rings, mushrooms, oven chips, beer battered onion rings and peas. So tender. Grab this offer while you can. :drool::drool:

Saturday - shoulder of lamb, marinate in garlic, wine vinegar,honey, garlic, herbs and garlic, sear on barbie, then wrap in foil and cook for a couple of hours, final stage is crisp up outside and add pomegranate molasses. Shred and serve with haloumi, salad, Greek style pitta. Wife to use left over lamb for mousaka)
Sunday - whole chicken with paprika butter smoked using alder and served with salad, tortilla (Spanish potato omelette) and garlic bread. Need to get new barbie as fire tray on mine has burnt through and it's a discontinued model so no spares. It's a fair sized offset smoker and a decent replacement isn't cheap, saw one at £900 but comment suggest it rusts. The one I like is make from 6mm steep, weighs 250kg and costs over £2k - wife says no. I most use mix of direct and indirect cooking in main box as metal is too thin to use side box for hot smoking. Hoping that local forge may be able to suggest a patch/repair even for season or 2. |

I did a repair on a small BBQ with a sheet of metal cut to size with the snips and self tappered to the base tray. Maybe something similar would do? If it needed to be sealed, there's always car exhaust cement.

About to cook a fillet steak*(rare) for SWMBO, and Ribeye (medium) for me, with oven chips and sautéed mushrooms and asparagus (and peppercorn sauce for me).
Washed down with a Malbec for me and Gavi for SWMBO. *all steaks were half-price at Morrisons yesterday, so got 2 of each, with the 2nd pair going in the freezer. |

Saturday - steaks (son and I had rump, wife had fillet) - I like my steak to still have a pulse and bray when you stick the fork in. Oven chips, petit pois.
Sunday - slow roast leg of pork with a garlic and fennel seed "stuffing", mash, corn on the cob and God's gravy. |

If you live in or around Winchester the Asian Food Hall is currently open after being closed for a while but if demand isn't there will close again.
This is a great place to get your Asian ingredients in better quality and price than the supermarkets. Hope this doesn't count as improper advertising. I have no commercial interest here. Do we need a "support your local business" thread? It is related to food as we got some glutinous rice and coconut milk so plan a Thai curry maybe next week. May try to get in to get a few more "essentials". Oh! Tonight we have duck legs in orange marmalade sauce. |

Birthday food
Lunch - mostly fishy stuff, smoked trout bagels, prawn blinis, rollmops. Cake - chocolate cake with cream filling and solid choc covering Late dinner (after a Zoom Bible study) - curry from Gurkha Chef, son had chicken makhani, wife had chicken methi and I had chicken Gurkha's revenge. All really nice, ordered earlier in evening for 2200 delivery, cooked own rice and was delivered almost exactly at 2200. |

Sunday - spatchcocked chicken grilled on BBQ with mystery rub, potatoes in curry oil on BBQ, corn on cob. (Mystery rub - mix of similar rubs left from other cooks mixed together.) |

We did change our plans because Sat/Sun were a bit cool.
Friday - BBQ seam bream Saturday - slow cooked shoulder of lamb - wrapped in foil with garlic/onions,herbs, wine. Sunday - Tandori roast chicken, dhal, panneer curry, naan Monday - slow smoked pork ribs - used the offset firebox on BBQ - 6-7 hours slow cooking. |
