Russian occupiers kill the New York Times journalist in Irpin.

Reports have suggested he was shot in the head.

According to Andriy Nebytov, the head of the Kyiv Oblast police, video journalist Brent Renaud was killed on March 13 in Irpin, a satellite city outside of Kyiv. Two other journalists were wounded and hospitalized. - Kyiv Independent

Breaking: Russian aviation hit in a significant way again - this time, by Bermuda. Bermuda revokes the licenses of 745 Russian aircraft (that’s 50% of Russia’s airline fleet).

Note: Majority of aircraft flying for Russian airlines are registered in Bermuda for tax avoidance.

Foreign Lessors Must Repossess Jets From Russia: What Now?

As we noted on March 2nd, Irish-owned aircraft on lease in Russia must be recalled by their owners as a result of sanctions against Russia. These lessors have hundreds of aircraft in Russia and are now faced with the enormous task of repossessing the aircraft that they legally own. But in light of airspace bans and a government that is seen by many to have violated international law, how will aircraft owners actually get their jets back?

Very readable article about the now possible outcomes of the Russia-Ukraine war….snippet of it quoted below. Whole article is written by a Chinese academic, obviously sanctioned by Chinese Communist Party. Dr Mike Martin recommends it, saying Putin has screwed it up for the Chinese and they now need to ditch him.

Quote:

2. The conflict may escalate further, and the West’s eventual involvement in the war cannot be ruled out. While the escalation of the war would be costly, there is a high probability that Putin will not give up easily given his character and power. The Russo-Ukrainian war may escalate beyond the scope and region of Ukraine, and may even include the possibility of a nuclear strike. Once this happens, the U.S. and Europe cannot stay aloof from the conflict, thus triggering a world war or even a nuclear war. The result would be a catastrophe for humanity and a showdown between the United States and Russia. This final confrontation, given that Russia’s military power is no match for NATO’s, would be even worse for Putin.

I’m really enjoying Mike Martin’s tweets at the moment, despite him being a Lib Dem :D

He also predicted the attack on Yavoriv days ago, pointing out its where Western intel has most likely been getting fed into Ukrainian high command. (For that reason it’s highly unlikely that Russia has managed to kill a lot of mercenaries or destroy a lot of equipment - it was always likely, to those in the know, that this attack would happen and precautions will have been taken). Reading the likes of the BBC today you would think this was a major, unexpected escalation or a new threat to NATO because of the proximity to Poland. In reality neither is the case.

While most of that quote (not yours) seems to be stating the obvious, apart from the last bit about it being worse for Putin. That part don't matter to him, what ever happens he'll see it as a win. My opinion is the only way this will end good if it's done via a military coup because he's not going to back down or show any kind of weakness. I hope I'm wrong but he's looking to do anything to make something bad happen.

What’s interesting about that article is that it is written by somebody who obviously has the ear of the senior leadership of the Chinese Communist Party. It’s clear from the substance of the article that China is going to be looking for ways to distance itself from Putin.

Having worked for an airline this won't affect them massively, they will get them done elsewhere, say china?

We moved from the British CAA to the Belgian BCAA the only real notice was the plane reg changed from G-xxxx to OO-xxxx.

I’d go with the Ukrainians on this one. The base was a prime target given its connection to training by western forces and its likely role in bringing intelligence into the country. All of that stuff will have been evacuated to a secure location a while ago.

Doubt China would help considering they've refused to send aircraft parts.

Also.

RUSSIAN MILITARY NEWS: Multiple instances have been reported where the paratroopers' (VDV - Russian special forces) parachutes failed to open in Ukraine. Inline with Russia's utter lack of maintenance of military equipment.

This is an interesting story.

The US says China will face harsh "consequences" if it aids Russia in its invasion of Ukraine, according to US media reports.
Unnamed officials reportedly told multiple US news outlets that Russia asked China to provide military assistance after it began the invasion.
The Chinese embassy in Washington said it was not aware of this request.
It looks like the US is trying to nudge China into acknowledging what it’s probably already thinking …. far from sending weapons, they’re thinking about cutting Putin loose.
