Tweet from Marc Allera CEO of BT Consumer this morning:
“Not often we can talk about a potential partnership w/ one of the planet's largest content players. After a detailed process to find the best way to strengthen our Sports biz, @BTGroup's in excl. talks with Discovery, Inc. on a deal to create a new broadcasting entity in the UK. The proposed joint venture would act as a perfect home for our BT Sport business. With a shared ambition for growth and combination of our world-class sports assets along w/ Discovery’s premium sports and entmt content, our customers will benefit from more content in more places. BT Group is aiming to conclude exclusive discussions with Discovery, Inc. in early Q1 and for the new company to be operational later this year, subject to completion of the deal and approval by the relevant competition authorities.“ |

This Discovery press release on the BT Sport joint venture proposal. I've literally only just found it before I came here so I've no idea if it differs from the BT press release above in any useful way.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Looks like a sensible, complementary combination of sports businesses.
Branding will be the interesting question. I'm sure ESPN will go but will BT Sport remain as a brand? |
Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Ouch. Deep pockets DAZN losing out to Eurosport.

And if the Telegraph’s reporting is confirmed, BT and Sky have tied up their deal past 2030… almost feels like this deal could end up being a small win for linear and traditional pay tv! |

Never mind - it’s in BT’s Quarterly…

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
how intriguing...
So discovery/Warner would be Eurosport, discovery combined with HBO, CNN, TNT etc with BT Sport in theory. I'm confused how are discovery that big of a company? Discovery channel hasnt been good for years. Eurosport was at its height in the early 90s. How have discovery remained a big company?! |
