So essentially, if UK TV drama doesn't launch on Sky and/or Virgin Media, it will be the only such channel in the entire UK TV stable of 10 channels plus HD and plus 1 variants.

Which would make sense if the channel shows programmes for which UKTV has FTA rights, which are already available to Sky / VM viewers on Alibi / Watch etc.

True! But if UKTV perform a massive U-turn, and provide Sky and Virgin with Drama ((and possibly even Drama HD and Drama +1 (if we're lucky)), I feel Sky and VM will be more competitive than ever tolaunch new channels onto their platforms. But that is just me, though:D

Channels starting as Freeview exclusives usually end up on pay tv at some point.

Maybe UKTV is using the channel to see how popular the format is on freeview. With a view to merging it with another channel at a later date, assuming it is successful and they purchase FTA rights for the rest of the programmes.

Apparently, he emailed this to somebody called Gerald who posted extracts on the VM Community Forums.

I'm currently using a new Samsung Galaxy Tablet and can't work out how to paste the link that I copied

Found it. http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...ht/true#M55531
I've also found this. http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...ht/true#M55520

So at 19:28 he quoted clint's post, then 34 minutes later, not only had he sent his own email to Neil Berkett with wording strangely similar to clint's, but Mr B had also replied with a similar, but embellished, reply.

You may also care to search this forum for the word "Gerald" ;).
Actually I was disappointed when he was banned. I found him quite entertaining.

Having the rights to do something doesn't mean you have to do it.

Strange way of thinking when Sky has increased its on demand quite considerably in the last couple of years.:erm:

Ok, so if you're able to answer I have two questions.

Firstly, was Neil Berkett correct and Virgin Media DO have the rights to UKTV on demand content, or was he mistaken and they do not?

Secondly, if they do, for what reason would they choose not to make it available to their customers?

Archive content from BBC Worldwide already appears regularly in TVOD. Maybe the deal with UKTV would only cover UKTV's own commissioned programmes, which perhaps Virgin don't see as offering good enough value for money?

I see Sky are now advertising that they have the widest range of on-demand catch-up channels.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Sky overtake VM on overall content too at some point, VM seem to be resting on their laurels..

Is the UK TV on demand content on Sky + HD the same or very similar to what appears in the BBC section of TV on demand on Virgin? That would make some sense.

Sky's catch up includes their own channels, I believe?

And PPV movies , Sky Store currently has 1188 movies available today according to the Sky Movies app which is more than double that of Virgin Movies On Demand , at the moment I would say VM has a larger library section with more full box sets than Sky. It's great how competitive the On Demand offerings are now getting especially when you throw in Lovefilm and Netflix as well.
