is there a way to get your PID sent to you?

I would like to upgrade to 3mbit (i'm a STB user) but i cannot find our welcome letter so i'm wondering if its possible for NTL to resend our PID to us.

You'll need to ring NTL CS anyway so you can ask them for it ;) It's a generic number as far as I know so it won't be like asking for state secrets :)

i'm getting my STB replaced on Friday and have 2 PCs begind a router.. after the STB has been replaced will I need to register each machine again and go to the NTL web page something like start.ntl i think with my PID

not got my PID anymore and as this is happening on Friday don't want to be without broadband for the whole weekend if I have problems

You'll need to re-provision the equipment in use but if no one here can give you the PID (think it used to be mentioned on Robin Walkers site which is linked to from the nthellworld.co.uk frontpage) then a quick call to CS before the weekend would suffice to get the PID from them.

thanks for that.. better give them a ring in the morning to make sure i have it before the engineer gets there..

would have been nice if CS asked me that when the upgrade was put through then they could have given it to me then

Thanks, but all sorted now. I called up BB faults this morning. he said it looked like a "database glitch" and hit the STB again. This time it came up with stb-mid.cm as it should but was still not giving me a 10. DHCP lease. So he told me to reboot everything but was a bit impatient with my PC reboot time (takes a couple of mins) so told me to call back if it still didn't work and hung up ! :erm::dozey: thanks !

Anyway after another reboot of the STB and my router, it picked up a 10. and the reg page was working again. Registered, rebooted everything again and woosh. 2mb. :Yikes:

Still, minor downside is the STB in 4:3 letterbox does not properly letterbox all channels. For BBC I get 14:9 not 16:9. grrrr...

The speed upgrades have nothing to do with the audio/ visual side of the STB, unless it's a known problem that others are suffering you may want to ask NTL if they can send a software update to the box in case something didn't quite lock in on the last software updates.

The first CS person I spoke to didn't tell me to do that, in fact she expected the STB to reboot itself and only told me to reboot the PC/router.

Out of interest why did I have to reprovision this time, when it went up from 1 to 1.5 all I can remember doing was re-booting the STB.

Thanks for the tip about checking the bill. ;)

Cool, forgot about the speed update. Gave them a buzz yesterday and few mins later I was crusin' at 3Mb, only rebooted STB and everything carried on as usual. :D

I phoned yesterday to find out how to pay for an upgrade, I didn't know about the free upgrades that were in line. The customer support lady informed me that the upgrade to 3mb was free and did the upgrade there and then for me.

Lost the will to liv.... Spent over 15mins of my life trying to get through to NTL and gave up... The News seems more interesting!
Can anyone confirm if they live in the Wirral (NW England), use a Samsung STB and successfully upgraded from a 750Kb service to a 2MB? Or am I wasting my time trying to get through to the CS?
Many thanks!

15 minutes? Pah, back in the day you'd have to wait two hours :)

Try calling them mid-morning or mid afternoon, I usually get straight through then.

Silly question I know.

Looking to do the whole online upgrade thing (750 to 2mg)

But obviously I need my user name and password, something which I don't remember from the top of my head, and can't find any record of.

Anyway I can get hold of it?

Sorry if this in in the worng forum....

:welcome: to cable forum

Don't think there is any easy way to find this if you don't have it written down.

I'd give CS a call - if you are ready to do the upgrade they can sort you out. I've found their response times to be quite good recently so it's worth a try. They close at 8:00pm so get in quick :)

The online upgrade only works for those with a modem anyway. STB users have to phone CS.

Oh I have the cable modem and all that stuff, just never used theiur mail service and as such had no need to know the passwords and usernames off the top of my head.

I mailed them earlier about it but I don't hold out much hope for a reply to that.

You won't get that info by email, or at least you shouldn't. Contact CS as already stated, they will ask a security question and give you the information you need.

Re: Silly question I know.

Mailing takes time and you are not guarenteed to get a response.
Best thing is to give them a call.
Have a recent bill with you that states your NTL account number and they should be able to help you out, and also be able to do it for you over the phone.
