Not a specific event, but my happy thought for the day?

As you may or may not know, I live with my sister, her boyfriend and their little baby.

No matter what kind of awful day I have at work, I know that I am going to go home to a big smile from the baby, probably with a few laughs. Somehow, that makes the day seem a little better.

He has started to learn to talk. He hasn't actually learned to form words, but is able to make different sounds, so I get a lot of that as well. The downside is he hasn't learned volume control yet, so he can get rather loud.

Treasure these moments Stuart, they are not babies for very long.

I have a similar history dilli, my mum, my Aunt and my baby all died around Christmas.

Used to make it hard to bear others being happy at Christmas then I made a conscious decision to remember other Christmases, the time my mum dropped the turkey as she was sliding it into the oven and had to wrestle it off the dog. She didn't tell us until after we had all eaten our fill. My Aunt would make the most marvelous trifles on Boxing Day, so alcoholic that we would be positively tipsy if we had seconds, and finally my baby ..that was a hard one to cope with until we had Peter.

Somehow coping with the sad memories is now easier and I hope you too can find peace and the strength to celebrate Christmas with Natalie this year. <<hugs>>

Yes several of my friends and family have often said having a mortgage is like having a millstone around your neck sometimes especially when times are hard so yes it is very much a relief when people have finally paid it off and my parents have about a year to go on theirs now and once that's done it will free up quite a bit more of disposable income.

Just had my first ice bath. I've been dreading it but as I have a shin injury that keeps me off the road I'm using the gym cross trainer and like today, bootcamp. They do a lot of heavy thigh work and afterwards I had trouble walking back to my car.

The hardest part was lowering myself in to the bath but once I was in and added the ice it wasn't so bad and when I got out my thighs were fine - obviously tired from the workout but none of the usual aches. I now fully recommend them :tu:

Child allowance 40p a week but only paid for the second child, crisps 3 old pence = to a quarter of 5p. 10 Black men (sweets) 1D (1/12th of 5p). Bag of coal 4/11 (25p). My first wage was equal to £125 per year,(£2.50 per week for 50 weeks we didn't get paid for the two weeks holiday back then), hours 9-5.30pm Mon to Fri and 9-12.30pm Saturdays. Yes seams unreal, you could have a good night out for 50p. A whole week's shopping would cost less than £4, unbelievable. Black Jacks were called Black Jacks because the original 1920s labels pictured a grinning gollywog - unbelievably, back then images of black people were used to advertise Liquorice. However, by the late 1980s manufacturers Trebor quite rightly scrapped the Black Jacks golly logo as it was racially offensive, replaced the logo with an image of a pirate with a black beard and eye patch and re branded the sweets as Black Jack. And by the early 1990s Trebor disbanded the pirate logo altogether in favour of the the black and white swirl design we all remember.
They may well have changed the name Osem, see above. You are right, a fire was a luxury (I worked in a coal merchants office), if we were cold then we just put on more clothes. We are spoiled these days with central heating. :):):)

Just came back from a mad and extended weekend, brother-in-law's 30th at Go Ape in Sherwood Forest with him, my OH (his sister), my sis-in-law, their respective OHs and a few friends. It was AWESOME. We went Segway racing there too, I could never see the attraction of them before but now I love them! Would love to do that again, minus the bump I look when we were let loose in a field and 1 wheel hit a hole in the ground at 20mph (pretty fast when you're on one of those things) and I flipped over the top.

Still a great day out and totally recommended :tu:

Before the Perkins was the STAINSBY

I've just had one donated to me , The main difference for those who are interested is that you had to braille backwards on the sttainsby and when you took the paper off the board it was the right way round. The perkins brailles correctly while using it.

my bed was 180 quid and its very cheap had to use mdf boards over the divan. If you want a good bed say bye bye to the whole lot

MalteseFalcon 22-09-2013 15:27

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Hmm, does MDF over the divan part do the trick? Nowt wrong with it, just a bit in the middle that has gone. Loath to buy a new bed when apart from that bit the bed is in excellent condition.

I have just found a fiver while doing the housework - nice :)

Good for you. I looked out a jacket the other week & find £10 in the pocket. It was a great surprize.

So I am now going to treat myself to a new pair of trainers and maybe even a computer game or two. And a new bed as well. Still enough left after to get a few Christmas pressies as well.

That is a nice thought ;);)

Job interview in the morning. Quietly confident about it, but don't want to curse it too much.
