I just find it odd it has a option to manually add time onto live events, why would you even have to? I would have expected it to be like (dare I say it on here) a Sky+ box that automatically does it. Surely it has it? |
Re: TiVo
Im just wondering if we are getting dynamic EPG mixed up with overlap protection. Dynamic epg (to me anyway means) an EPG that is updated if there is a schedule change, which is mentioned toward the end of the userguide where it states the TiVo connects every few hours to update. Overlap protection is used when all tuners are busy recording and another lower priority programme is due to be recorded. It ensures by clipping the recording times that no recordings are missed. When all tuners are being used on a Sky+ box it doesn't matter how dynamic the EPG is, you will find the following recording will be cancelled, it happened all the time when I had Sky. I do agree though that the live recording buffer implies that the EPG is not going to be as dynamic as people here are wanting though.

Re: TiVo
Surely though, even a dynamic EPG might not update fast enough if for example a football game goes into extra time like the 10 min stoppage on the man Utd game the other day. Or the sudden death finishes on American Football when the game is tied at full time.
I would have thought that this is what the extended live recordings option is for |

Equally it doesn't say anywhere that TiVo is unable to do this. |

Re: TiVo
I thought Sky used the PDC (Programme Delivery Control) info that's embedded by certain channels into the broadcast? If so, in my experience, support was good on the BBC channels, good most of the time on Channel 4, variable on ITV (they sometimes transmitted signals at the correct time, sometimes not) and non existent on the other channels.

Re: TiVo
I'm near sure the Sky+HD box had an option somewhere in the settings to extend recordings however I could be wrong.
