I'd take anything said by VM with a pinch of salt, hell if the CEO can't be trusted when he announces three to four HD channels in the next three months how on earth can you believe any-other VM statements?? They'll tell you what you want to hear to keep on receiving your cash...the exception being the few good VM employee's who post on CF.:) |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Remember Wikipedia is updated by anyone. I can go on there now and add "it is doubtful that this channel will ever show on Virgin Media" and there it will be. Wikipedia is about 70-80% accurate and not a good source for news.
Also engineers do not know what is new. They may get some training on new boxes, technologies etc but only very very close to launch. The test channels will probably be to ensure that the feeds work in place of close analogue channels. They don't necessarily mean that anything is actually launching. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
I think we should re-name this thread to "there's a very slim chance some of these things might come to VMTV", because as far as I can see not much mentioned ever seems to materialise on our TV's!!!
This isn't a criticism of Media Boy as I'm sure its equally frustrating for him also. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
By my own records there have been no new channel launches since the 7th October last year when UK Gold was replaced and split into two channels Watch and G.O.L.D. I am excluding the return of Sky's basic channels on the 13th November as they weren't "new".
Yes, On Demand is wonderful (when it works..) and there has been new developments such as ITV Player launching on it. But most people still prefer as wider selection of channels as possible and as usual throughout the whole era of cable tv, we are shortchanged. Even basic channels such as the ITV+1s which are available on Freeview are missing and VM have yet to restore removed channels such as More 4 +1 or UK History +1 (now Yesterday +1) which are channels I would really like to see return. And with the announcement that VM is still shifting its debt around (my interpretation of a press release issued the other day) what should be a strong platform, is still bogged down in a sea of debt, an average EPG (I'm being kind here...) lacking even some basic functions and a poor choice of channels, things don't seem to be looking too good for VM. And I won't even go into the HD debate... That said, I don't know anyone else who has rolled out 50mb broadband across the country, so VM are good at some things, just wish the same efforts were put on its tv platform too. |
