Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
I had an on line chat with Amazon regarding an item I wanted to return. The agent was obviously not listening to what I was saying. I told him at the start that I wanted to return the item because I could not get it to work, also said I didn't have a smart phone or working printer They had sent me an email with a 'code'. I didn't have a smart phone to copy the code (one of these black and white squares that look like a crossword) and I didn't have a working printer. He then asked me to follow the link to print out a label, I DON'T HAVE A PRINTER, well send the email to a friend and get them to print it out. I don't have a friend with a printer. Well then use the code we sent you, I DON'T HAVE A SMART PHONE, Well in that case we can't refund. I saw red and asked to speak to a supervisor, within seconds the phone rang it was Amazon, not only are they going to come and pick it up the parcel from our house, but will also bring a label, on Monday, sorted.

Was the original agent one of their Indian staff by any chance?
Absolutely inflexible the lot of them. They rigidly stick to their script and if what you say or ask isn’t on the script they simple ignore what you’ve said and carry on. |

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
Tried buying some scented wax melts from eBay earlier. Added them to my shopping basket, went to pay with PayPal, only PayPal came back with an error saying there was a “problem” with my card and should try a different card. But I don’t have another, I only use the one.
Checked my balance, yep money was there as expected. Tried it again, same “problem”. I ring my bank as sometimes they put a block on “suspicious” transactions. Spoke to the bank, the problem was with eBay as they didn’t run the transaction using “recognised security”. I smell rotten BS but called eBay as they suggested. I get through to their “wonderful” Filipino call centre. Apparently the transaction was done correctly and I need to speak to PayPal. Already I can see where this is going. I ring PayPal. I get their to their “wonderful” Filipino call centre. I explain that when I tried to make the transaction, the PayPal app said my car was declined “Well that’s easy sir” he bangs in his fake American accent, “you need to simply use a different card”. I explained I didn’t have another card and eBay told me the problem was with PayPal. “No sir you just said it yourself!! Your card was declined so you don’t have enough money or your card is wrong” Cue scenes of an already grumpy Russ now head butting the table. I asked was does the error say his end. “Oh I don’t know sir I haven’t looked at your account yet!!” I asked him to confirm if he’d told me the problem was elsewhere without even looking at my account. “Yes!!” I’m seriously doing my best to not lose it at this point. He looks as my account “Aha yes I can see your card has been associated with suspicious activity and now cannot be used with PayPal. You will need to use one of your other cards” I remind him that I said I only use the one card. ~silence~ I asked if anyone was going to let me know my card had been blocked by them. “No sir! You find that out when you try to use your card on PayPal!” I asked him if he thought doing that was good service. “The very best service!” he said cheerfully. No wonder humans annoy me. |

Boiler is due a service anyway but my unprofessional guess is there is an issue with the pump and the radiators downstairs bleed ok. |

Once again, our local council paid a company to do a job, then didn't inspect the work.
Damage to the tiles on 3 neighbours' homes' roofs during TV aerial refits got the council riled-up and ready to charge the tenants to do the repairs. But then another tenant told them that the tiles had all been replaced on similar style homes many years ago because they had become excessively fragile. A quick check of records, and it was found that the council had been billed for retiling those 3 homes but the work had not been done. The council is now trying to get the original contractor to actually do the work. |

Eventually they come and checked and indeed the nest was right behind the damage so they decided to fix it when they knew the squirrels were out. They scaffolded the eaves and did the work. Pensions!
Like a growing number of people, I have had a number of jobs over my working lifetime, which has meant I have ended up with 7 different (small) pensions - now, the 4 Defined Benefit ones are easy (I've taken them, as they all rise with inflation each year, and SWMBO still gets half the payments should I pop my clogs). The moan is the three defined contribution pensions I have from 3 jobs I worked at in the 80s, 90s, & 00s - three different schemes (Aviva, Standard Life, and was L&G now LCP ReAssure); I've got the fund values and the transfer values for each of them (they can be different), now got to figure out the best way to utilise them as retirement funds. a) not an annuity - I would need to live 30 more years to get the value of the fund if I took one, and nothing gets passed on to SWMBO b) probably a SIPP Drawdown fund, as this gives me more flexibility, and if I pop my clogs before the fund is empty, SWMBO gets what's left Just need to look for the best SIPP - thinking about either Vanguard or Aviva, as both have very good ratings. I've had initial chats with some Financial Advisors, and I have to say I was struck by how "shark-ish" they were - one advised me to move two of my pensions immediately to a higher risk fund (he would get commission for the move and the ongoing fund management) as the bonus payment on them wasn't guaranteed; when I checked, the bonus payments were guaranteed. The others just seemed to want to transfer me to schemes where they would get ongoing commission, even though I was willing to pay a one off fee for (supposedly) impartial advice. The moan is that I didn't realise it would be this much work...:D (could be worse - could not have them..) |

Came across this really nice smart long sleeved buttoned-down collar Superdry shirt on eBay and decided to buy it. It was used but for a tenner I didn’t mind and it looked in great condition. In my size too, XL.
Arrived today and yeah, it looks brand new so I tried it on….and could barely get my arms through the sleeves. It totally slipped my mind that Superdry’s sizes are based on Japanese people and their XL must be like a Medium to us. Gutted, I really liked the shirt. |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
I don’t doubt it. However their sizes are based on the Japanese population for some reason.

I’m pretty muscular, I mean I’m no Dwayne Johnson but I couldn’t do any of the buttons up and my arms were extremely tight in the shirt and that was an XL.
The other XL shirts I have fit properly. I have 2 Superdry t-shirts in XL and if I’m in poser mode during the summer I’ll wear them as they’re pretty tight. Superdry’s sizes are definitely smaller on “westerners” in general. |

I got offered by a guy in an unwritten white van £20 to check and clear the gutters on the house. Only the front really needed doing so I said yes. He didn't have a card or flier.
Anyhow he cleared the gutter but said that some of the concrete in the valley of the gable was insecure and removed it. Now they're keen to come and do major works on the valley. Now call me suspicious but unwritten van, call from withheld number, no business card, a call this morning from a mobile number that doesn't trace to a bone-fide business in the area and I'm suspicious of being scammed so I've asked for a written estimate. What's the betting I don't get one? |

I’ve had the BMW for just over a year and it’s been fantastic, no problems at all. The previous owner was a mechanic so he looked after it really well and it shows.
Over the past month or two the engine coolant warning light has been randomly coming on for a minute or so then going off. I had the car serviced in March and the coolant level has remained the same so I can’t see that being the problem. The car still runs perfectly well yet the warning light comes on now and then, sometimes every day, sometimes not for weeks. So I took it in to the garage yesterday and despite them taking 2 hours to tinker about they can’t find what’s causing it. That in itself isn’t my moan, my main gripe is being charged £60 to be told “we don’t know….” |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
Ah, the good old fashioned intermittent fault. And when it does finally go kaput it will be the sensor monitoring the part, rather than the part itself, that’s broken.
Trade it in for a Ford model T. So much simpler … :D |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
Can you get them as a convertible? If so I’m sold :D
Apparently they checked the sensor (which was hoping would be the problem, they cost about £6…) but it was responding ok. And just the sort of worry to have while I drive to Leeds and/or Leicester…. |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
Had the 'engine management light' on in my Avensis for 3 years. Checked at garage when it first appeared and nothing wrong (glitch somewhere? ) so they cleared it, said if it comes back we'll look further . . . ££££ . .
It came back on 2 months before it's MOT . . I reset it . . flew through the MOT (emissions etc) and after that I just kept resetting it occasionally. There were absolutely zero engine problems in those 3 years . . apart from a new starter motor . . bloody modern cars eh  |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
For the sake of £6, they could have just changed the sensor anyway, thus ruling it out in the future.

Talking of the dreaded colonoscopy, I had one just over 2 years ago. I didn't have any sedation but wish I had, they did have gas and air available though which helped. I never knew just how deep a human could inhale and for how long... let me tell you it's very long and very, very deep.
And they hadn't finished with me there, after that, they literally spun me around and did the endoscopy! They assured me that they were not going to use the same camera that had just been up my anus. Saying that, I really didn't care, I was still higher than a kite from all that endless sucking I'd done less than a minute ago! The cylinder / tank must have looked like an empty crushed coke can. |

Endoscopy I had no sedation and hated it and will have to go again next year and every few years for the rest of my life but I still won't have sedation |
