The Daily Express are running a theory from someone they say is a close friend of Ann Widdecombe. This friend states that Ann was about to make an explosive announcement that would rock the political establishment.

She also said that, if someone had knocked on her door and said "You're a fascist", she would have said "Don't be silly, come in and have a cup of tea whilst we discuss it".

Interesting that they've dropped the terrorism charges.

There has to be reasonable suspicion of terrorism if she was singled out for the fact of being a politician. The evidential bar would be high though, and if they think it’s straightforward enough to go after him for murder, then that’ll be that.

A cynic might add that it is useful to hold someone on suspicion of terrorism because the police get a lot more time to hold someone in custody for questioning where terrorism is suspected. But they still would have to show that suspicion was reasonable.

Ann Widdecombe was hit on the head with a hammer 21 times at her home as she ate lunch in an attack that was caught on camera, prosecutors have told Westminster Magistrates' Court.
That being the case, why was someone else arrested ? Poor quality video ?
Thats seems unlikely these days, home security cameras are normally at least HD.

Delay in getting access to the recordings? I do seem to remember seeing a quote from her that suggested she had cameras outside (the joke being that anyone wanting to steal her garden gnomes would need to wear a mask). Few people would have cameras setup in their home, for obvious reasons, so ‘caught on camera’, may not be quite what it sounds like.

very easy to hide your ID on camera though. Why do you think so many youths are going around in hoodies and face masks. Well round here anyway. Does not matter how HD your camera is if all you can see is the eyes if that if they wear shades

Well the statement implies they were identifiable, otherwise why bother noting it.
Still, I guess it doesnt actually state that, so maybe not.

I've not seen any information about a funeral, maybe this can't go ahead as her body may be needed as evidence, but the trial is set for next year!

The coroner will release her for burial, though it will be a little delayed under the circumstances. He may not permit cremation. They certainly won’t hold her in a mortuary until after the trial, there’s simply no need for it.
