What a nice gesture. Was it a competition he won or something?

Besides, I don't see why racism should be singled out for special attention. There are a wide number of disadvantaged groups who suffer from discrimination, harassment etc. Just singling one group out implies that racism is somehow worse than any other form of oppression & is in itself a form of indirect discrimination.

There is someone on this forum who appears to look out for anti-disability comments, often perceiving them when none are meant - it appears if you don’t wholeheartedly agree with them, then you must be disablist or believe that disabled people don’t matter.

See how what you wrote sounds from another viewpoint?

Try walking a mile in someone else’s shoes, to gain their viewpoint and see things from their perspective - if you don’t gain any self-awareness or knowledge, at least you’ve gained a pair of shoes…;)

*I obviously don’t believe or agree with this view…

They love the attention & limelight, and right now they are getting absolutely tons of it.

Stop taking the bloody knee, stop making a huge fuss about it [complaining about it to the press] - simply turn on your word filters and ignore them.

Once they realise they are no longer getting constant attenion and reactions, they will get bored and move on.

That’s like saying if women didn’t wear low cut tops or short skirts they’re wouldn’t be as many women being sexually harassed, sexually assaulted (or worse)

Racism in all its guises has existed long before BLM, your statement however is if we don’t draw attention to it it will go away

The problem is the racists NOT those who are protesting/drawing attention to it.

Then can you please explain why it is not getting any better, despite attention being brought to it, in fact it is getting a lot worse than ever, not better.

Is it getting worse? One of the things about bringing attention to something is that you'll notice it more.

The reaction to the abuse is encouraging. The newspapers tonight seem to universally be going after the racists, players and clubs are uniting against them and there is more pressure on social media companies to act.

Surely, if it’s getting worse it’s even more important to protest against it and refuse to accept it?

Taking the knee won’t stop racism. As it’s clearly been demonstrated given the online abuse and vandalism of Marcus Rashford’s Mural after his disastrous penalty attempt.

I don't think it was ever intended to stop racism. to me, it's about showing that you're not prepared to tolerate this ignorant, offensive behavior from happening in a supposed civilised society.

It's just a gesture, a 'show of solidarity' . . . like the many before it that had lots of good intentions with no end product.

Exactly, how dare people show that they're against racism because their gestures or protests might not achieve anything. They should just shut up, not bother and hope that the offending behavior doesn't get any worse.

And it doesn’t help that anyone not seen to be 100% in favour of taking the knee is automatically written off and closed down as a “racist”.

You're right

However, I'm unable to come up with a reason why people would, or do object to players, athletes etc. taking the knee?

I don't believe they are - it's often the accompanying comments that lead people to regard them as racists, rather than the objection to "taking the knee",
