Yes, Now TV is certainly a good app to have, given the omission of Sky Atlantic from the VM platform.

That is unlikely to change anytime soon unless the wise folks at the top of Virgin Media suddenly have a change of heart.

So Virgin Media may be getting the benefit of Platform One programming in the medium term. That's a promising development.

This could be good for VM. If the wholesale deal they have with BT could be extended to cover AMC in addition to BT Sport, this would help AMC's advertising revenues quite a lot, I would have thought.

Not a bad little channel, AMC.

I believe the Velocity channel operates only from the UUS at the moment, but I wonder whether TEN will be a candidate for consideration for the VM platform, given that this will become a Discovery company.

Another possibility for the VM box if LG decide to relent on more streaming services for Virgin Media in the future, following the revelation that it was LG that scuppered plans to add Amazon to the Tivo/V6 boxes.

Telefónica plans ‘Netflix for Europe’

Reports in Spanish newspaper El Pais say Telefónica is planning to launch a streaming video platform with its own original content in Europe to compete against Netflix.

The Spanish operator is said to be finalising plans to launch the SVoD service in Germany and the UK. The service will be marketed at a low price with unlimited access to all content à la carte directly to the subscriber or through distribution agreements with other TV operators.

The service will be made available across all devices – smartphones, tablets, consoles, multimedia players and smart TVs. The company will start with the service in the UK and Germany and extend it later on in other European countries, except Spain. Latin America will also not receive distribution of the service.

The streaming service will streamTV series produced in Spain and in Peru. Movistar Plus has become a big content producer. The company plans to release between 6 and 8 TV series per year and currently it is working on 20 different projects with an investment of €70 million a year.

It's only going to be good if any of the content that they will be offering is worthwhile watching, OB.

Personally, I would rather have BT's UHD content.
