Cancel everything I've just said-have just watched Welcome to the Places of My Life. Quite content that I won't be able to see the rest of the new stuff. Disappointed.

Thanks for that. Worth knowing.

The "Sky Atlantic is exclusive to Sky customers" was very noticeable-I'm inclined to agree, it's not coming anytime soon. I think the simple fact is that increasing the exposure to another 4 m probably wouldn't bring the supposed benefits in increased advertising revenue that some seem to think since, taking the current viewing figures as a representative sample, opening it up to Virgin would only likely add relatively few actual viewers. It's worth more to Sky as a usp than as a commodity.

Sadly, I think that is true. Even more dissapointing when two of the four US drama aquisitions announced by Sky today, are destined for Atlantic.

Reaction has been very mixed, which I'm hoping means that my disappointment was genuine and not because I'd approached it hoping it would fail. I don't think that's the case, in fact I think I was looking forward to it, but i, like many, felt it fell short. Given what Coogan has had to say about the Murdoch empire, I find it quite sad that he's chased the Murdoch dollar at the expense of being able to do his best creation proper justice.

Well said... I was trying to put my finger on this yesterday, but couldn't quite get the wording right... If this appears on Anytime I'll probably watch, but no sleep lost otherwise.

Except that (as has been proven already) Sky only care about their own customers.

Carl - The point I was making was that as a subscriber to Sky channels, I am a Sky customer. I'm just not a Sky satellite subscriber.

No you are a customer of VM , sky sell their channels to VM who in turn bundle them in packs and sell them to you. :)

Sorry Den, why would they not. Its all about them selling to the end user. As much as I would prefer it to be on MY choice,at the end of the day that is what it is, a choice :D

Everyone knows that, so why didn't the VM team negotiating the VM channels sale build guaranteed access to new any new Sky channels into the Deal? In fact selling the channels now seems to have been a bad idea. BT have said that part of the reason for getting the football is to have some levarage over Sky for channel access.

Joe public are aware of Sky's tactics; it seems as if VM's negotiating team weren't.

So you'd rather have Bravo, Trouble and Virgin 1 than Sky Sports HD, Sky Movies HD, some Sky basics HD, Sky Anytime and Sky Sports Red Button?

I agree the negotiating team certainly did not think to the future . I think a lot of people at the time said it was a bad idea to sell VM TV and so it would seem.

Of course, these are people (such as alwaysabear, above*) who probably have no real clue as to how these sorts of negotiations are conducted and whether it might be possible that VM did actually try that but couldn't make it work; or any other of a number of possible scenarios.

(* and me, of course, but then I'm not commenting precisely because I don't know anything about it.)
