Calm down everyone.

It's just been announced that the outage is due to an electrician checking some building wiring in an apartment block in the South of England and accidentally uncovering the HQ of the national modem cloning network.

Police and tactical firearms experts along with two qualified technicians (not necessarily VM technicians) are attending the scene and normal service shall be resuming shortly.

Thank you for your patience.

Very good indeed

I thought the outage was caused by the Cleaners in Telehouse unplugging the racks to plug in the hoover??

Only at Virgin's discretion may they compensate angry/irate/agitated customers. However remember you pay for an "up to" service and you don't pay for a Service Level Agreement, so technically they're not obliged to give you a single penny. :)

Sounds like their core network switches had a problem if it knocked out a lot of their internet and TV delivery. There will be an internal investigation no doubt, but don't expect the findings to be made public.

Or putting a mop into the bottom of the racks and soaking the cables...

No, only total loss of service for more that 24 hours. it's in the T&C's, no service provider can guarantee a faultless service.

that sounds like atlantic 252 when they switched over to the other transmitter at 7pm, it would go dead for a few seconds and they said it was the cleaner just plugging in the hoover :-)

I've been back OK since about 20 minutes ago. Previously, only some websites were loading.

I'm on the Hayes UBR.
