I hope he has fully recovered and stays with us for many more years to come..

BTW - Ironically there's a documentary on tonight from 1996 called "When We Were Kings". It's about the Rumble in the Jungle epic. But it's not all about the fight itself, it includes a bit of everything. You might have seen it before but if not it's well worth a look.

Sorry forgot to put the channel and time for anyone who's interested

It's on 1TV4 at 0:45hrs.

Miguel Cotto battered a one-eyed Antonio Margarito over nine lopsided rounds before winning a TKO decision in their highly-anticipated rematch on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.

'Just to look at him and taste my victory on him,' Cotto said. 'He means nothing to me. I’m here with all my crowd and all my people. He means nothing to me.'

Promoter Frank Warren has called for an immediate rematch between Dereck Chisora and Robert Helenius after the Englishman's controversial defeat in the heavyweight title bout in Helsinki.
Quote:

Respected trainer Freddie Roach branded the decision 'just terrible', and Warren has vowed to lobby the European Boxing Union (EBU) in a bid to force a rematch.
Quote:

'Dereck really proved that he is one of the top heavyweights in the world and he'll have Helenius' number when they meet again.'

They say the gym is a liar. Hopefully, at least on this occasion, that is untrue.
Gnarled old pros will tell you that the more brilliant a boxer looks in training, the greater the risk of him peaking too early and struggling on fight night.

Quote:

Now 25, Khan looks bigger and stronger than ever. The tape tells a tale of physical similarity but Peterson, who took to the ring in a community centre immediately before, seemed almost frail by comparison. Perhaps that was an illusion but not even the American’s handlers could deny the heavier impact of Khan’s punching.
Quote:

Peterson, who weighed in at 10st, a pound heavier than Khan, has been steeling himself to confront his opponent’s speed, saying: ‘I know Amir is very fast so I’m not going into a sprint race with him. That would be playing
to his strength.
Quote:

Roach, newly inducted into the Hall of Fame, agrees: ‘If Amir sticks to the game plan and stays off the ropes, he will win quite easily. But he does like a scrap and occasionally takes an unnecessary punch or two. When an opponent gets his attention he taps his gloves together. That’s always a
sign that something dramatic is about to happen. If he does that he will still win, but it will be more exciting.’

Lamont Peterson hats off to you. Charging forward like a bull, well deserved :tu: Amir Khan couldn't deal with it, couldn't force the pendulum in his favour, not properly anyway he ended up losing points. That said the both of them showed real stamina, really good fight.. well worth staying up for

---------- Post added at 05:35 ---------- Previous post was at 05:24 ----------

oh and the ref was a... can't say probably get banned

Be nice to have a re-match though sometime in the future.

Hats of indeed, knew he'd do it, got the same feeling about Eubank all those years ago against Benn, a genuine boxing tale of rags to riches.

I personally think the ref got it right, Kahn was fouling all the way through the fight. Kahn needed this type of fight, he was starting to believe his own hype just like Tyson did. Mayweather would have destroyed him.

Re: Boxing 2011

Khan will be the P4P king, I don't have doubts about that. The problem as said above is he think's he's just gonna cruise to the top and get decisions everywhere he goes because he is the main attraction. Khan had the fight after the first round.. He then stepped off the gas and allowed Peterson to throw punches.
