I belong to the "IF IT ISNT BROKE DONT FIX IT " and mine isnt Broke school .
First and formost its an upgrade of Modem nothing to do with the Change of speed
most people who signed up with NTL Have perfectly Able modems.

Can I ask which modem/model you had previously?

What's all this about registering for an early upgrade?

I am on 2meg, do I have to do anything for this upgrade to the speed?

And also I have a Motorola Surfboard Modem SB5100, will I require a new modem for the upgrade from 2 to 10meg??

I Have the silver NTL Home 200 from first install to present Day its been no
trouble. You can understand our feelings about this as mine and many others
Dealings with call center have at times been very heated and frankly a pain in
the rear so if its that way we have to set up new modem then i am am worried
and are these new things reliable i dont want to spend hours on phone trying
to explain to India what the problem is with probably little result .
Yes i know somone now will jump on me and say thats rubbish they do there
job properly and there few problems but you i and i know thats not so
I Can install the modem i can fault fnd as well and yes i can and regular set
up windows on new systems so i know what i am doing i just dont want my
System FIXED when it isnt BROKE It works leave it alone .

All you do when the modem gets swapped is read out the MAC address on the modem. Thats it. It takes about a minute on the call

I know exactly where you are coming from.

And all I would like is for someone to tell me if my Motorola Surfboard Modem SB5100 will not be required to be changed for the auto upgrade from 2meg to 10meg, as I feel the same and don't want the hassle of driver issues on the 98 system.

I agree if it ain't broke.............

It should be fine on 10Mb but if it ever goes wrong it will be replaced with the Ambit 256.

None of the new modems have any Drivers - they are all connected via Ethernet

If you are connecting via USB you will need a new modem (and may be the reason why they are being sent out)

I Think on win 98 the problems will start but i solved one old Laptop problem getting
back on line when internal Modem failed we tried a new card no drivers for 98 but
went on EBAY and for a fiver got a USB wireless Dongle that came with Win 98 drivers
one chuffed Person. chap in Hong kong when we aked about drivers assured us was on a disk and they were good old ebay

All Motorola modems have Ethernet ports and if on 10Mb should not need replacing unless the modem is faulty.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade

I fitted my own Ethernet card in my 8 year old computer some time ago as USB caused problems, and I have had a stable connection ever since, so looks like I won't require a new modem.

I have just sent VM an email asking them when I should be receiving this free upgrade, it will be interesting to hear what they say.

Does this upgrade just happen, or do we need to register?

Oh well upside is i'll be able to move my email to this account i suppose.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade

The password reset feature doesn't function correctly, you're going to have to call customer support and have them restore the account credidentials; I had to.

/myvirginmedia/gofaster/
also states that it cannot recognize my speed.

Perhaps this is the upgrade being done in this area?
