Re: Nurse suspended for offering to pray for patient's recovery
Someone did - which was why she had a previous warning.

Re: Nurse suspended for offering to pray for patient's recovery
Good grief! I'd be totally unconcerned by such an offer and the only thing I'd be complaining about would be if the medical care I received was poor or inefficient..
Seems to me people just can't stop making issues of things that they could just ignore. Why get offended on someone else's behalf if you aren't offended yourself? Utterly crazy.Complaining for complaining sake if you ask me.Now the stupid woman has lost this nurse her job.I hope she can sleep at night. |
Re: Nurse suspended for offering to pray for patient's recovery
has she lost her job ? I thought she was suspended?
and she was warned not to do it prior to her suspension so she defied a management policy - what did she expect? |
Re: Nurse suspended for offering to pray for patient's recovery
cant see she can loose her job if it goes to court or industrial tribunal
court / tribunal has to take into account the human rights act and the right to freedom of religion and expression of it |

What about the patients rights, or doesn't she have any? |
Re: Nurse suspended for offering to pray for patient's recovery
Come on folks why not answer my question...
Why get offended on someone else's behalf if you aren't offended yourself? |
Re: Nurse suspended for offering to pray for patient's recovery
This instance seems a bit petty. It doesn't appear the nurse was a religious freak, or that the patient was offended.
Maggy, there could be instances where you would be offended & the person it was aimed at, wouldn't. However, I reckon if it doesn't bother you, why get involved! |

Re: Nurse suspended for offering to pray for patient's recovery
I heard the lady in question on the Radio today and she sounded very nice. I personally can't understand the fuss this has caused.
If I ever post on here that I have suffered a severe trauma or been diagnosed as terminally ill, I'll happily accept prayers from any of you. One of them might help! and if none of them do then there's been no harm done. ;) |

Re: Nurse suspended for offering to pray for patient's recovery
If this nurse had been warned before about "praying" for her patients, then its right she should be disciplined, note I said disciplined not suspended.
Most of us are assuming that the nurse just dropped in a prayer at the end of the consultation, but we don't know, she could well have been banging on about religion throughout her visit and the prayer was the straw that broke the camels back. Its a moot point saying the old lady didn't complain, because by ringing her employers and saying "it doesn't bother me but it might well bother others" what did she expect would happen? The nurse is a professional care giver who by and large is going to be treating people she hardly knows, so why on earth does she feel the need to introduce religion into this scenario? I doubt very much this was only the second time she'd done this, how many other people have had to listen to her religious views whilst she tends to them? Surely the patient has the right not to be preached at, that comes before her "religious freedoms". |
