Although not totally representative, the poll on here is interesting. As the votes have risen, those planning to depart from VM has stayed pretty static, around the 15% mark.

If this is truly representative across VM's customer base, can they (Vrigin) really afford to lose 1/2 a million customers in one hit? Based on their own figures, this represents a turnover of £21.2 million PER MONTH loss.

Having a "Who Cares" button might have been interesting, as in people are watching less TV these days, afaik.

Interesting analysis there. I don't think vm could afford to lose that many. Perhaps vm will need to offer a sweetner to customers fast?

I will be staying with VM Even if Sky 1 Goes

BBC news 24 just stated that although talks between Sky and VM are technically continuing, things are not looking good as VM is complaining that Sky want TWICE the usual fee for keeping Sky1 etc....

I still can't see Sky running the story about VM & Sky on SKY News.

I guess they're going to be criticised whatever Sky News runs (or doesn't run).

If they did run the story the I expect people would be saying that they were using an impartial news channel's output to put forward their case against Virgin.

I think it's a responsible decision not to report it on Sky News, to maintain the channel's credibility.

Am I the only person to see something good in this situation? VirgiNTL tells Sky to go take a flying leap & saves themselves a shed load of cash, they take the surplus cash that normally goes to Sky & use it to improve the stuff they continue to provide us.

I'm still not going anywhere. Yes I will lose some programmes, but better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

The last thing I want to do is faff around cancelling one contract and signing up for 2-3 to replace it, and end up with less of a BB service than I'm getting now.... So - I'm not leaving.

On top of that - I figure jumping ship now doesn't necessarily put you in any better position even if what Sky is offering at the moment looks more tempting - do you really think they won't have teething problems with the stuff they're proposing to launch? Let the dust settle and see what each one has to offer a few months down the line, then make a decision if a switch (either direction) is best for your needs. Give them both time to stop their posturing and start showing all their cards to the customers.

Erm... did you see the results of the poll? 15% of cable subscribers would jump ship, that's £21m per month in revenue that Virgin would no longer have - or £1/4bn a year!

Actually, your poll is missing an option.

3. Cancel sub and revert to Freeview.

Which is what I would do as I do not watch a great lot of stuff except sky1. and I'm damned if I'll pay anything to Murdoch if he uses such low tactics.

I think that's the way I'll be going... and it looks like I'll miss the last ever episode of Stargate :Yikes:

Ok but how much is it costing them now to pay Sky for the channels? probably not that far off what they stand to lose if 15% decided the hassle of changing was worth a couple of sub-standard channels & they are sub-standard these days with the amount of repeats they show on Sky1.

Yes but 84% said they would stay.. How much is that in retained revenue?
