300k customers are not upgraded automatically, they have to ask for the upgrade. Those still on 300k have the 30 gb per month usage limit which they would lose by upgrading to 1 mb with its 3 gb per month allowance.

I've been told its been upgraded to a 5gig cap, but if you go over, I think you have options, either paying for extra bandwith, or having your internet restricted to say 150k until the end of the month.

At the moment NTL are not enforcing the 3gb usage allowance AFAIK and will not do so until they have a customer facing method for checking your usage. NTL sites still show that it is 3gb, not 5gb. The probable options once the allowance is being enforced will be moving to an higher tier, paying for extra bandwidth or dropping to a lower, as yet unstated, speed for the remainder of the month.

Does anyone know the magic words to use to the retentions team?

I didn't need any magic words afterall, Just to ring the number above and say "Not happy about the price I'm paying for Broadband, I've got a mailing for faster broadband fopr less money" That was it 9.99 for 12 months 1Mbit.

I really didn't want to have to go to B@$t*** Telecom so am happy

I phoned NTL this morning to take up the £9.99 offer (for first year) and got offered 1 meg for £8.50 per month for as long as I used it. Well chuffed.;)

this is madness, if they can afford to give it to new customers and existing ones that ask for it then all customers should be moved to this new £10 a month deal.

Clearly they have a 100%+ profit margin on existing 1mbit customers. I think the £9.99 is profitable for them, its otherwise financial suicide.

Can you have 100%+ profit margin? The only clear thing is a lack of understanding of marketing even with business studies qualifications. :D

I can confirm this is not a wind up you ring the number and tell them you want it at £9.99 and they respect you the customer instead of arguing the toss. I am now on this deal. :)

no problems but I await my next direct debit to be sure it's been applied!

Well, considering it costs over £150 pounds to install a new customer, and the minimum period is 12 months (=£120) , I really am not sure where you get you're calculations from.... It's a loss leader.

It must depend on who you get on the phone as I have just rung and been told "brand new customers only" lol

Oh well never mind it is good value at £17.99 any way :)
