Yes it certainly has been a very interesting series Raven and hopefully a second series will follow to take in other places as well.

Lets hope this one doesn't cost us over £50m due to incompetence

Yes indeed as if any of us had made such a mess of it we would have expected to be fired but alas l am afraid the clowns are probably still being employed in the same organisation.

They've changed the page since I posted, now includes the details of the West Coast franchise, going up again and that Virgin have been given another extension to run West Coast Mainline services until April 2017

In a separate announcement, the Department for Transport said Virgin would continue to run the West Coast Main Line until April 2017.

Re: Train Spotters Corner

That's good news as far as my brother is concerned as he works for Virgin Trains at Euston and believe you me as we have FGW down here for several years and they are absolutely rubbish compared to when we had Virgin down here in my opinion.:tu:

50 years ago Dr Beeching wielded his axe on a large percentage of Britain's railway network piece on BBC site

Quote:

Fifty years ago on Wednesday the Beeching Report was published, spelling the end for thousands of stations and hundreds of branch lines. But now, in one corner of Britain, a new line is being laid that will restore a link cut by Beeching's axe.

I know of plenty of routes here in the Midlands that would benefit from a rail service some are still used for freight and diversions, others mostly cycle paths. Many rural communities that lost their services would also benefit now that bus services fail to serve them.

Yes we have a TV local news programme which is which is harking back to 50 years ago and how it affected many communities and l saw the first part last night and l think now people are starting to realise that in hindsight many of these cuts were short sighted to say the least.

Also there is a DVD release this week which some people might find interesting.

London Midland gets an extension to run services until 2017

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-21963814

The driver shortage will probably raise it's head again, now the latest batch are qualified and out on their own they're now able to transfer to other companies that pay more or have better conditions (which was part of the problem last time)
