Can't find it ever being on 525.

Back in 2013 when I was making the EPG list for my blog wikipedia was reporting at MUTV was on channel 525.

Will fix it later.

I have data from 2006. Then it was on channel 44, 410 or 530, depending on where you lived. :D

I know, I checked back to 2004 (I think) but the fact that Telewest, NTL & C&W legacy channel numbers were in use made posting them a bit pointless.

I've got listings for 716 up to Sunday. 715 also has listings from Monday. Probably just a delay in getting the listings

Since they pay Sky per subscriber I doubt take up concerns Virgin at all.

The football season is over, probably a carrot to encourage folk to keep Sky Sports for 3 months.

To be fair they should just put these channels out of their misery right now.

Well that’s the thing - if even these mugs are getting a reprieve to 2034 what do you think BBC1, ITV1, Channel 4 and Five will get?

Anyone making serious plans for 2035 would have them clearly publicised now. Radio silence from the Government, OFCOM and all the required parties. 2035 is closer to us now than digital switch off was in 1998.

Ofcom can only do what the Government allows and the Government are more interested in fighting culture wars than actually planning what will happen over the next few years. If they don't plan for change, there won't be any change.

Well quite. The state broadcaster has a leading role in distracting the proles with trivial matters distracting from Government incompetence and corruption. Best to keep it beamed into everyone’s eyeballs.

Nobody ever, anywhere, used Virgin OD. It's always been easier to watch music videos on YouTube despite ads.

It was chargeable when it was first introduced. IIRC they then offered a few tracks for free to tempt people to start using it.

Eventually it became free with XL, which was when I last used it.

When Sky basics left Virgin, they introduced Virgun Central VOD. I could never work out what it was meant to be, is it still going?

It was 20p per video when it was launch before Virgin added it to the old XL Pack.

Yes it was, so £1 for 5 videos and very easy to build up a large bill over a full month. A fairly limited range of artists too as Virgin only had deals with a limited number of distributors. Effectively replaced in 2016 by links to the Vevo and AATW apps. AATW channels have subsequently been added to the EPG in their own right and the Vevo app has changed significantly over the years and moved away from the music on demand model.

Just a barker channel for VOD content. https://media.info/television/channels/virgin-central

It also made more content available than would otherwise be in your package. Really it was only relevant for people who weren't on top tier.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2023)

I still remember channels such as The BOX (music television you control) where you'd phone up a premium rate number and input a 3 digit code to the music video you wanted to see, if i remember correctly it used to cost around 50p per phonecall.

ozsat 11-06-2023 13:25

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2023)

Box replaced the satellite and cable Jukebox services.

'Satellite Jukebox' was carried overnight on Astra and was available to Sky viewers. The video selection was by a phone call but the selections made were very repetitive of just a few novelty videos.

Some operators as 'Cable Jukebox' which was only on a select few networks.

Isn't that the point of a barker channel though? promoting content available elsewhere.

Even more expensive than Virgin's Music On Demand. Premium rate numbers are more heavily regulated now and premium rate lines are, perhaps, less likely to happen with Channel 4 now in control. It is difficult to estimate how much demand there was for such services but, with the declining popularity of the music channels, there was probably a point where the cost of operating premium rate lines exceeded any income they were likely to generate

But it wasn't just a barker channel. It allowed you to access content that you couldn't otherwise access.

But the extra content was accessed with VOD via the red button. I don't know, maybe call it an interactive barker channel then? Not an unusual format for Virgin TV.

Blimey! that thread doesn't exactly sing its praises.

True, but with Virgin Music OD, it was easier to find your favourite videos. With YouTube, you have to search for each one apart from a few that appear on your regular tile.

But the selection with Virgin was more restricted, of course.

If you were only interested in your favourite videos, the quickest method would have been to add them to a youtube playlist and access them from that. Going through the VMOD menus to access a video was somewhat clunky.

A.You'll find it's actually more to do with Discovery, all these cuts etc came after the Discovery Warner merger.
B. TCM is nothing like the channel it once was and it won't be missed.
C. The movies will now be more widely availble to people via QUEST which is also on freeview and freesat.

I think it's more a victim of on-demand movies which allow viewers to watch the movie they want, when they want to.

I've always felt it would have worked better as an advertising-led Freeview channel (like Film 4) for those who who do not want to spend money on TV and are happy to fit around broadcasters' schedules.

My elderly aunty loves the old films and trawls through the TV guide to see what's on when. It doesn't seem to matter how often she's see them as she settles down to watch them and seems happy to fit in with the schedule.

And if we mention a film from her younger years she'll often tell us it brings back happy memories of seeing it x times with a different gentlemen friend each time

Awww, she might find Talking Pictures a good alternative to TCM.

I'm currently in a care home and one lounge has Talking Pictures on most of the time, whilst the other has ITV3 on most of the time.

I think that the older people get the more they get comfort from the past and retro programmes % films help them to do that.

It hasn't been on VM for a long while. I think it was before the current rebrand.

Ginx did close on Virgin Media some years ago due to Virgin not launch Ginx HD as part of the sign deal to carry Ginx,

Ginx will close on June 26th with ROK on Sky Q - and Ginx is own by Sky and ITV.

Eden HD moves to 176 on 4th July , mentioned in UKTV weekly highlights, So are they merging Factual and Lifestyle into Entertainment then ?

Alibi also moves to 114, Drama moves to 116, listing the old HD separate channel numbers is a mistake

Yes.

Can I ask if you won't give any info, then what's the point of mentioning it?

Still waiting on permission to post any changes online.

Also some viewers will not be happy with changes.

A channel has only been given a channel number outside Scotland.

I was talking about the EPG Channel changes on July 4th.

I feel TNT Sports will be on XL Package this season as BT Sport did sign a three year deal with Virgin two years ago.

When all EPL deals was rollover due to COVID19.

Also if it was being axe on XL Pack I think Virgin would have let everyone know by now.

I don't think some of those are on Pluto TV , some are on Amazon Prime (Free With Ads on Freevee)

I wonder if CNN Fast will get added at some point, It's getting rolled out to more platforms throughout the year

Yes, only these are Pluto TV channels:
  • CSI
  • Fear Factor
  • Great British Menu
  • Homes under the Hammer
  • Inside Crime
  • Judge Judy
  • Wicked Tuna
  • Wipeout (but not Wipeout Xtra)

I guess they might be getting added to Pluto TV based on this , I suspect CNN Fast will be added to Pluto TV at some point.

CNN Fast is available on Freevee - as are some of the others on the VM list which are not on Pluto.

But the version streaming in the UK appears to all be recorded stuff - never seen anything live - and it does not match the CNN US or CNN International service.

Perhaps they wlll auction off these slots in 140s and 150s to see if anyone is interested specifically Sky Factual channels and Discovery channels.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2023)

Or perhaps they are already allocated to channels not yet launched?

I feel Virgin may give them to Pluto Channels.

I'm not sure it would be a great idea to issue mainstream channel numbers to IPTV gateway channels. Probably better to give the a separate range.

Well Netflix and Prime video will still be on channels 204 and 205 after Tuesday.
So maybe Virgin will give iptv 200 numbers

Perhaps. The current pre-launch range of gateway slates is using channels 451-470 (don't try checking, they aren't yet available on customer equipment), quite possibly, just being used for testing / configuration. I'm not sure though how accessing a selection of channels via gateway slates, or portals, or whatever you prefer to call them, is any better than accessing them directly through an app. I guess it adds to their "visibility".

so since i'm on a v6 and wont get the pluto channels does that mean the channels in the 200s wont have anything on?

Confirmed TNT Sports will be on XL package on Virgin Media UK - for now

The channels will remain in the same EPG slots on VM and pricing will also remain the same for now.

Considering they a get a certain amount per subscriber (does anyone remove the refund amount during covid ?)I can't see that changing, Warner Bros Discovery are in a financial mess as it is.

I feel TNT Sports will be on the XL Package until end of season 2025/2026 - that when BT Sport with EPL is up.

The 2022/2023 to 2025/2026 tv rights was given to all EPL rights holders base on the EPL UK rights from 2019/2020 (BT Sports, Sky Sports and Amazon) due to Covid 19.

There hasn’t been an announcement on that, Vince.

I thought Pluto TV was already on the V6. If I remember correctly, it was accessible through the My5 app, but that may have changed.

Given that Virgin will want to encourage customers to get their telly through the 360 box, they may be using this as an incentive to change, or maybe the streamer is not compatible with the V6. If compatibility is the problem, maybe you will get the FAST channels through your EPG, but just guessing now.

Pluto TV is already available on the V6 through its own stand alone app.
