As if you could forget  and definitely heard about the sad death :(

muddy pitches, standing terraces, proper football with some 'no nonsense' players too :D

Dunno why, but Terry Cooper (Leeds) always stood out to me as an exceptional player

A fan asked in a Q&A about his surname.

The only reason I could see for a delay was in confirming the handball as a clear preventing of goal/red card offence. Looking at the replay several times it’s debatable if. Mignolet would have reached it?

Good performance all the same, next three games, Everton and Derby away then City at home will show if the current optimism is warranted.;)

On a more serious note its just a matter of time before matches are played behind closed doors as Italy announced that today that this will keep happening until sometime in April in Serie A and the England versus Italy six nations match will be played behind closed doors.

Ederson and Pickford spring to mind for two keepers that have been absolutely atrocious this season. The latter still to represent us in the Euros should it still happen. Just hope he remembers to stand on the line and not behind it when he catches the ball. :erm:

Seems to be a common reoccurring thing this, promising keeper gets England #1 at a decent age and just slides all the way downhill from then onwards.

It’s safe to say I enjoyed myself this afternoon. City had a lot of the ball but can only remember De Gea having one save to make. De Bruyne was a big loss for them but you have to give credit to United for harrying and slugging it out.

I was quite close to the Fred diving incident and he was clearly kicked on the ankle by the City defender, Mike Dean is such a self important clod he whipped out the card without giving himself time to think.:(

Champions League is looking likely to be suspended following the round of 16 ties.

La Liga is starting to call off games. Expect that to be suspended too shortly. Seems likely all leagues will follow in the coming weeks including us. Euro 2020 being postponed is almost inevitable. I imagine they'll scrap off the new nations league in 2021 and play the Euros then.

Some fairly poor goalkeeping by the Liverpool stand in. I'd expect a solid hand to those last two shots come goals.

Ultimately I feel like it won't even matter. All sport is going to be overwhelmed and overshadowed by this virus soon to the point that the winners of any competition if any are going to be left feeling fairly underwhelmed. Finals behind closed doors if they take place at all. Liverpool's return to the Premier League helm after a lengthy period with no crowd to cheer the final whistle. With an assumption that some normality may be resumed in time for a trophy presentation in May.

So only the Premiership, Championship and EFL games, which isn't 'all games in England' as the headline claims. I can see a massive influx of support into National League games and below. Football fans need their fix, (apart from Premiership fans who 99% just watch on TV anyway.).

Sky TV sources and now sky news sources are fairly beaten about the season resuming and think it's finished.

The flip side to that is that it's on both the Premier League and Government to sort this out and mainly the Premier League to decide what's what. Obviously Sky are probably the best placed to already know what the PL are discussing but there's still options available. The lack of International football and cancelling the Euros would open some gaps.

Cancel Euros to 2021. Play remaining Champions League / Europa League ties as one off matches instead of two legs (in selected Euro 2020 stadiums?). Possibly even with quarters/semi/final played over 8 days or so in June/July. Frees up more time.

Shorter preseason (none of these overseas trips) and abandon cup competitions for next season.

Between all that you buy a couple of months worth of dates. Maybe three.

Even more outlandish:

Start next season with the remaining games from this season - with the results valid in 19/20 and 20/21. Once those 19/20 fixtures are done promote / relegate as appropriate and play out the remaining games for 20/21 - for the promoted/relegated teams have the corresponding fixture in the second half of the season to the one they missed at the start worth double points to them. Yes I know this would mean they didn’t have the opportunity to play everyone home and away.

Re: Season 2019/2020 Football

Champions League money is worth a hefty amount to some, clubs will be keen to find a way to see that out. Reducing the amount of games by limiting them to a single leg, nullifying any advantage by having them hosted neutrally is fairly agreeable.

Europa League sticking point is basically the winner gets a CL spot, which is fairly important for the PL teams competing in it. Otherwise the money involved is fairly drab to most teams and cancellation of the whole tournament would be possible.

Also award the FA cup to the top scoring team. :erm:

Premier League will meet again, possibly Thursday to decide on the appropriate action. Sources still remain defeated and say the league is finished. Suggestions range from everything at the minute though. From calling it and handing Liverpool the trophy or rendering the entire season void. Doubt anyone actually knows.

Now they are talking of making the over 70’s stay at home. How are they going to police that I wonder. Will I get arrested as I sneak out twice a week to play squash?

Come on Jim politics and Brexit is quite unimportant in the great scheme of things giving what this country is facing as everybody is looking to our current leaders and their experts as none of us are experts apart from being armchair experts and they are millions of them as we all know.

It was your throwaway line about the government being unedifying that I wasn’t that happy with.

It’s new ground for everyone and they are being led by their scientific advisors.

l am not a fan of Boris Johnson and l have stated that quite clearly for years but he is our leader and we must place our trust in him led by his experts to make the right calls.

The Champions League and Europa League could be decided by a mini-tournament are one of the options being discussed by UEFA tomorrow.

Where would they host the 'mini tournament' . . . the Isle of Wight? :D:D

Solution just follows Jfman's idea on the previous page. It's basically that or nothing. The domestic leagues are more important than the Euros and the Champions League finishing will allow minimal financial disruption to the clubs involved. After all its just case of club football is more important than internationals.

There's gonna be a real need for a financial package for EFL clubs though. Drop down to league one and below and you're looking at gate losses on match day attendance.

Indeed lower down the football pyramid unless some clubs get financial help they will go to the wall.

Not just lower league, most clubs will not survive long with no income.

They'll last long enough for the league to come back. They've still received their TV money and commercial money which is massively more than gate receipts. Clubs in the EFL rely on match day attendance. The Premier League could run behind closed doors for a year and make minimal losses. Add in the ability for top flight clubs being able to make losses and take on hundreds of millions of debt.

All of this is the same reason we were able to hand out 10,000 free season tickets. The loss was a drop in the ocean. As I'm more familiar with Newcastle's accounts, just 5% of the clubs revenue comes from match day sources per season.

This fairly much explains all.

Premier League clubs have reportedly hatched a plan to save the season amid the coronavirus pandemic - by playing all remaining games behind closed doors and at neutral venues.

All games would also be shown live on TV in a bid to provide fans with their football fix and appease broadcasters who have paid huge sums to show Premier League football.

They have extended the season "indefinitely", rules had stated the domestic season should be finished by June 1.

It appears the FA, Premier League, EFL and women’s professional game are fully committed to ending the season.

I guess we will see how things stand in April as to whether further measures are required - and how it will affect players contract renewals etc

l think they made the one and only decision they could make in the current climate but obviously closer to the 30th of April they will perhap have a better idea of where we are.

Re: Season 2019/2020 Football

It'll just continue onwards behind closed doors with players and staff required under some fairly strict isolation rules. Allowing some EFL teams to tap into emergency funding from the government will ease off the financial burden of no gate receipts. As per my previous post, Premier League sides will last just fine without them.

As for Sky and Co, rights packages are loss leaders anyway. To ensure the future, some sacrifices now are key to survival for a lot.
