Spurs are knwn as one season wonders. Sadly, they are not up to the high standard of Chelsea or both Manchester sides.

Arsenal are just as bad. And no l am NOT saying that due to the rivalry. Arsenal run hot and cold. And saw the way Walcott looked at the referee after todays defeat. And they way Wenger look.

I have said all along Arsenal need to get rid of Wenger. Then, and only then will they will a force to reckon with.

What will the fans say at the end of this season IF they end up with nothing.

With Spurs fans will are used to it. But l think if Spurs can get Janssen scoring, as l feel that the PL is too fast for him and will take time to get used to the pace of the PL. Look at Son, last season he was poor and in danger of being sold. This season he is back to his best form

Well not being biased Jim ;) if one side deserved the 3 points it was definitely Liverpool on the overall play as yes sadly Derbies can be 100 miles at times with the ball going round like a pinball without much composure at all.:juggle:

Again its that old chestnut of officials being totally inconsistent.:(

Over the full 98 minutes I would agree that Liverpool just about ( only just ) deserved the win, Everton did fall away in the second half after being the best side in the first and carried very little threat after the break.

I think its about time that something was done about Scottish Football and bring it in line with the Football League.

The Scottish League is becoming a second rate football saga. Celtic for example seems unstoppable in the SFL. And with Brendan Rodgers getting this hero hype. There are no strong clubs to take on Celtic.

And he is taking to pride that he is making Celtic great again. Who is he kidding. Can anyone name ONE strong side in Scottish football.

That's why the Tv money invested in SF.is very low compared to EPL

Most leagues only have a couple of strong teams, rangers will come again and they are still the most successful domestic club team in the world iirc despite celtics recent dominance

That sort of win always feels so good, just home from OT. Hit the post twice, perfectly good goal disallowed, shot after shot raining in and then Boro score with first shot on target. No heads went down though, the kitchen floors, walls and work tops along with the sink got thrown at Boro for a thoroughly deserved three points. :)

Edit, Even Fellaini did little wrong but they did score both goals after he was subbed.

I find it totally a disgrace to football fans that the Chinese are now trying to poach top players.

But to pay Ronaldo - ONE MILLION per week, is a total joke. The wages that are paid to footballers, is outrageous

What clubs can do, if they are prepared to pay this amount of money. Is reduce drastically, the entrance fee to grounds.

To go to Spurs, l am looking at nearly £250.00 for the game. That's entrance fee, to get food and drink inside the ground. And transport charge.

And now they are trying to poach Clattenburg. The so called Top referee. The ref wh cannot see the ball go over the line by 4 feet

Gayle is one of those strange players like Cameron Jerome and Vaz Te to good for the championship but not good enough for the premier league imo. He at least is young enough to prove me wrong though and his confidence must be sky high which will only help

I can't see him amounting to much more than what Leon Best was for us. Pretty much a nail and head comment you made.

There's a foundation to build upon at Newcastle now of course and money to be spent but I can only see s handful of current players that could cut it in the top flight.

Mo Diame is horrific at times. Replaced Sissoko with Sissoko. Anyone that wasn't good enough last time round but is still here should be the first in line to be replaced. Gouffran, Colback and so forth. I don't think many are safe under Rafa. Mitrovic has barely got a look in this season despite scoring when he's had the chance.

Must say I have always liked Costa apart from his occasional lapses of over aggression. Now he seems to be more at peace within himself he is playing like an old fashioned British centre forward, using both strength and skill to maximum effect.

It's bloody freezing out there, trying to decide if I should make a visit to Ice Station Zebra ( aka Boundary Park) The Latics have been very poor this season and were just as bad last year on the few occasions I watched them live.

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

I have said all along that he Refs, in the PL need a total revamp. Dean was terrible today. He had to opportunity to send off another player in the second half for a 'similar 'incident that had the red card in the first half.

The second goal for United was offside, and the amount of shirt pulling, wasn't even picked up by the linesman. And he was within sight.

I think that officials have been told by there so called Joke company, mis the silly incidents. And give cards, when they indent is on Tv.

iadom 02-01-2017 21:34

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Erm, how did you see the silly incidents then Arthur, unless of course they were on TV or you attended the game?

Arthurgray50@blu 02-01-2017 22:09

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

I didn't attend the game. But the incidents were caught on TV. And l used to be a referee.

The officials were terrible. Its like the Arsenal game, when the ball was definitely over the line. An Cech was complaining that it was on the line.

I have been a fan/ref for many years, and only quit reffing about four years ago.

Silly Incidents like pulling the shirts, or grabbing the player in the box. This should be classed as a penalty. And when you elbow the player in the neck, or 'studding' a player, this should have been seen by the linesman. But never given.

This happens in many games, but not given in them.

Instead of whistle blowing EVERY foul, let the game flow. The rules of the game, as now been made silly. Diving for a foul, should be a card.

This is what l am saying about 'silly incidents'

You serious? You talk some bias crap. It was a blatant red and a quite incredibly bad challenge, his foot is over the ball, studs showing, scissor challenge and misses him by an inch. It doesn't even have to touch the player, it's a straight red.

How you claim to have refereed any sort of game in your posts is massively beyond me. I'd fear for the 22 players on the pitch should I ever see you on a field of play, because the only 'Unjust' logic I can come up with is that you genuinely believe it takes him to connect and break the lads leg before a card is shown.

Second bold, Pot kettle black a bit there? You're never bias. They should let you ref and commentate games, it'll be completely fair and bias free and we can expect the odd leg break.

It was a superb game of football. I don't know wether Kane, was awake or asleep. He had a poor game.
I would have taken off Kane at half time and put on Sissoko or Son at half time.

It now opens the top four. And we should now have a good season

---------- Post added at 22:41 ---------- Previous post was at 22:33 ----------

And one further answer for Nufc. I am a big fan of letting the game flow. And in the past fouls that we have seen on Tv and in person at grounds.

This is what football was about, now you only have to blow, and the player goes down in an oscar winning role. So therefore referees are scared to enforce the rules of the game. And they bring a new rule out for the offside rule.

I read an article by Mark Halsey today, that referees are now much poorer, than they were several years ago.
And that some are NOT good enough to referee. They just have to pass the fitness test, and they can then blow a whistle.

In my time, l saw loads of bad tackles, and the player stays down and is seen laughing. On the ground.

so every time a player goes down, is he seriously injured or not.

I packed up being a ref. several years ago. When players started to take the mick on were diving everywhere, the FA wouldn't do anything about it.

Mourinho is steering a frightening ship back in the right direction. 10 pts down? it's doable. United are slowly coming back and they're not even at full speed yet.

Still the Special One.

I missed todays gossip but it seems a twitter user sent people into meltdown around the web by convincing people Fernando Torres was about to sign for Newcastle. In the actual news however we seem to be about to test Derby with an £8m offer for Tom Ince.

Tim Krul is in limbo. Feel for the guy, a genuine converted geordie that would play at this level and has been at the club since his teens only to be fobbed off to Ajax whilst injured, have his spot covered and leave him with no route onto the pitch but no place at Newcastle? I like Darlow but Krul was one of the best on his day and had one of the most ridiculous games as a goalkeeper in a Premier League game i've ever seen:

10 wins in a row is good but I'm tired of other United fans saying "we're back". This isn't a strong United side. Stronger than the disastrous Moyes set-up but we've still got vulnerabilities and the OT fear factor hasn't returned yet.

I'm pretty certain Mourinho will bring in a few more players and clear out some deadwood between now and the summer and I think then we'll have the side he really wants.

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Very true and I for one having actually been to every home game am a long way from crowing.

There is no doubt that the style of football served up this season has, in the main been much better to watch than the previous three. They are still playing with a right back on the left side, a converted winger at right back and centre backs who are all prone to mistakes including the excellent Bailley.

A Carrick/Scholes type of player is also urgently needed long term. Luke Shaw needs to step up to the plate or be replaced as well.

Very true Jim.

I'm going to Anfield for the second leg and a nice 2-3 goal cushion would have been handy.

As long as he stays on the bench for 80 minutes then comes on and scores I don't mind, it's giving away a silly penalty that grates.

I think you will find it changes it's colour, not it's mind.

Fellaini never was and never will be a 'proper' Man Utd player but TBH I would rather have a clumsy trier who can be a bit of a nuisance than someone with loads of skill like Payet but with no backbone. :(

Seems like someone has been chatting to Dimitar Berbatov and asking him if he'd like to come to Newcastle... Please no :erm:

I am referring to the Chameleon per se, an animal that can change colour to suit it surroundings. As yet I am unaware of anyone having fathomed out what it is thinking. I would therefore have to disagree with your Google link.

I would expect a far better analogy than that from you TBH. :)

I would prefer to be thought of as a free thinker who accepts that things are not set in stone, if ever Fellaini actually plays consistently like a £27.5 million player then I would be more than happy.

Diego Costa hasn't trained for 3 days after he was offered £576,000 per WEEK by Chinese Superleague club. What the hell is going on, this is getting ridiculous.

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

How? They've got the greatest manager of all time, the super special one that walked into those two relegation scrapping teams, Barcelona and Bayern and turned them into world beaters. Frank Rijkaard never won a league title or a champions league title with such a poor lineup. Jupp Heynckes is the same, he couldn't get that league title or champions league trophy either. Super PEP

On a serious note, welcome to the real world Pep, welcome to a club that isn't destined for success for you to stroll in and claim the glory.

Man City at this point last season: 43 pts. Change

Well these officials have certainly been been poor today as Rooney should have been sent off for a dreadful leg breaking tackle and surprise surprise the incompetent linesman misses a clear offside.:(

On the tram home from OT. Not the best of games, to much at stake, lots of mistakes from both sides. Draw was a fair result IMHO.

Pogba had a stinker.

l agree a draw was a fair result but the officials again made considerable basic refereeing mistakes sadly yet again.

l would advice you Jim to see the replay again as it was nowhere near the face and was in the chest thus a yellow card was sufficient.

iadom 15-01-2017 20:08

I thought raising a hand in an aggressive manner and striking an opponent was sufficient. TBH a yellow was enough given the outrageous shirt pull. :)
