Just called VM and now the speed increase (50 to 70) has already been pushed back to 2016 from this November. Apparently, the 'codes' have not been released yet. :monkey:
|
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
a lot of people have said this and VM are making themselves look like a right bunch of *****. I have seen multiple press releases and emails where they stated 90% of the country would be done by the end of the year. All they are doing atm is advertising a rollout schedule for PR sake and before they have even started (or just started) they are banging every back 3-6 months again. It is a joke.

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2015/10/27.jpg , if that's what you mean. Strangely, VM said if I wanted to go from 152 to 200 I could have that today, mind you they said a lot in the hour I was on with them. Not entirely happy but as there's no real alternative where I live. My loyalty discount runs out in a few days so I asked about speed while I was on with them. On another forum, someone was denied a speed increase from 50 to 70 because they had a loyalty discount. I wondered if I cancelled and wait for them to ring back I'd get a better deal but I'm not a big risk taker. They're sending me a new contract by post (not to do with speed but to get a better price -loyalty discount), don't you get a few days cooling off period? Oh yeah VM told me the Wi-Fi sharing was not postponed or cancelled, so I could use it. Huh? Edit jb66: feel free to make mine 70Mb. :) |

Only managed to log into virgin media today after trying for 4 days. They said to me in an email I'll be going from 50MB to 100MB. Now I learn it is only Up to 70Mb.
I get 55mb now, so 70mb is nothing is it. Can I stay on the 50mb and pay less. Why tell you one thing to start then change it..No Logic with them is there. When I was on 30mb my Wireless was great throughout the house, then got the 50mb and wireless dropped it's signal so had to buy extra plugs. What the heck is it going to be like at 70mb. No Wireless. lol I been with NTL since they installed the cables in my area and Never complained once. Now I can see it's going downhill as the right hand not got a clue what the left hand is doing. Still, I guess we be lucky. :) |

Wow, that config appears to be 70/5 - a jump from 3 to 5 up is a nice little boost and an improvement in ratio.
Yep, been hanging onto my BB:M, Phone:M, TV:XL loyalty bundle, maybe one day I'll try kicking the hornets nest of retentions - actually there was a previous deal which came close, something like "family". |

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Do you have a copy of the email where VM said you'd go from 50 to 100MB? Allegedly they never said speeds would double.
It's all games with numbers and marketing anyway. I only came off the bottom tier because it worked out cheaper to increase speed on my package for some weird reason. Apart from downloading large files which I rarely do, I notice notice difference between 50 and 150MB. |

I had an email that originally said my speed would double... granted it never explicitly said it would go to 100, but it did initially say 'double'
I thought I'd put a copy of the email up here, can't find it, maybe I'm mistaken and it just said 'increased' |
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
I had something about double too but I don't think it was referring to my current speed, will have to dig it out sometime.

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Why does VM give out such odd info. The guy in the local VM shop said "Just ring up and they'll you straight onto 70Mb", VM CS said you won't get 70MB until next year, and the web site says end of Nov?
|
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Bandwidth in games is pretty much updates of x,y and z coordinates of players and their actions. It scales with the number of players, and as Igni said if you are hosting you are receiving and sending all of it to each player, but the information contained in these updates is just a small amount of text.
It's the frequency of the updates that demands a reliable connection. Cables inherent jitter is actually bad for games, so BT's 'fibre', despite being slower for downloads, is usually better for games. |

Sorry to ask this if it has already been covered but ...
I am on 152MB and I currently have a SH1 and I can get over 160MB wired but my Wifi varies between 70/90 and 110MB - on a the rare good day. I am due to be upgraded April/September 2016 and am not to fussed by the wait even though new customers in my immediate area appear to be able to get 200MB now. My question is will I need a SH2 and if I do will VM offer it to me automatically or will I need to push for one? Please don't advise me to get a router I really don't want one. :) |

Rang retentions yesterday with a view to going down one tier from XL broadband, and getting the speed upgrade later on. To my complete surprise the rep I spoke to asked me to stay on the same package, and if I did I could have the movies package and the speed upgrade to 200mg, all for the same price. Of course I accepted this really good deal. Just shows that if you are nice to the reps on the phone and don't go on the bounce you can really do well. Up and running an hour later with speedtest.net showing 210mg speed. New contract of course, but not really bothered about that. All in all a good result.

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Not sure what you mean? The inclusive speed boost is for customers currently on 100Mb to go to 150Mb.
If you want to go to 200Mb you can do that, but it's a different tier of service so is a paid upgrade. |

Throughout the last year, my speed has been 200Mbit (even though I pay for 100MBit), and the service has been good. I had presumed therefiore that anybody on 100MBit would be upgraded to 200MBit as per the testing, and as per the opening post of this thread. But it's just 150Bit for those not wishing to incur anymore costs rght? I have no problem with this, btw, it's a nice upgrade. |
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
200mbit didnt exist last year for customers, 150mbit is a different tier to the 200mbit tier.
The 3 speed tiers will eventually be 70, 150 and 200, ignore the opening post. |

Out of interest, for those people that were upgraded as a part of the normal process (e.g. didn't call up saying they would cancel or renew a contract etc), are your now on QAM 64 on upload?
|
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
There should be no difference as there is only one configuration on the network per broadband tier.
|
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Our upgrade isn't until the end of November but we've been on 2 x QAM64 for several months now. The evening hump on the ping monitor has also gone so I guess both are evidence of network improvements ahead of the speed uplifts.

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
I just moved house and was upgraded from 152Mbps to 200Mbps as part of the deal. We've gone from 2x 64QAM upstream at the old address to 2x 16QAM at the new address (two streets away).
I also note that on the old package we got 100Mbps real world from a 152Mbps connection. Now we're on 200Mbps at the new address, we get 150Mbps real world. Hopefully one day they'll upgrade the top tier to 300Mbps then I can finally get 200Mbps... Makes my head spin lol. |
