What is the definition of a terrorist?

To be a terrorist it's generally accepted they need a political motive and agenda. I really don't see the need to bring this guy into it though, he is an irrelevant diversion, even more so now he's locked away

Well, he had a White Power agenda.....

I think the point the poster is trying to make is that two lunatics attack a British soldier shouting 'Islam is Great', they are terrorists, but when a lunatic attacks an Asian shouting 'White Power', he is regarded as insane, or a 'lone wolf'...

The question is, did he have an affiliation with a white supremacy organisation? Had he been actively engaged in white supremist activity?

iIRC the Lee Rigby killers were known to the security agencies

The court heard items associated with white supremacy and Nazism were found at the defendant's home, including banners, swastika badges and Combat 18 stickers.

Mr Davies told police he was a member of a far-right organisation, but had acted alone at the supermarket.

Also how about that guy who killed the church in America last week?

I don't think he did have connection to white supremacist organisations but then many Islamic extremists don't have direct links to equivalent organisations. Instead the theory goes that they get radicalised by the Internet and 'hate preachers' isn't it?

I don't see much difference between the church shooting and a conventional terrorist attack. It was inspired by an ideology, he wanted to start a race/civil war, he killed a lot of people.

I realised the point trying to be made but just don't think it relevant and find no use in distracting or detracting from the very real threat walking amongst us. If the anders brevicks or timothy mcveighs ever get together they might become the biggest threat but until then they aren't very important.

And that theory gets exposed as false at every time, the guy that said he's daughters were radicalised on line in parliament was exposed attending hate rallies, the youngest suicide bomber was likewise groomed on line only for it to later emerge his brother is in a British prison for terrorist offences etc etc etc

There's a difference.

Based on what I know so far I would hesitate to call him a terrorist just yet. Still a lone loon for me until I know more.

Might it be an idea to amend the title of this thread since it's morphed into one about terrorist attacks in general?

Just found out my mother's neighbour was on the beach when it happened, she saw the guy and legged it as soon as she could see something was wrong. She's home safe now though.

Good point. Done.

TBH I considered making this it's own thread but will keep it in here for now as they're are related.

Hopefully a major terrorist attack here won't require a thread of its own. I have a feeling one's going to happen sooner or later however... :erm:

I think it'll just get worse as long as the media gives them their rewards, it'll just carry on.

I'm getting a bit uneasy with the politicians as much as the media.

Not so much. This guy, Anjem Choudary, et al, all appear to be quite happy with the welfare state. Happy to take our money while simultaneously expressing deep seated hatred for us and everything we stand for, wanting to live under Sharia, and the usual nonsense.

One of the antagonists no doubt responsible for the start of trouble during the Gaza protest in Cardiff. It appeared the police turned a blind eye to one side of the troublemakers at the time, fortunately they kept an eye on at least one of them.
