Also in area 31. Have Netflix. Coventry CV3.

Tried it out.

Watched part of Cowboys and Aliens in Super HD, it said. All very smooth. Definition excellent.

The app loaded up slowly at first but after logging in and trying again it had sped up. Navigation pretty is quick too.

Cool, cheers. The billing areas are certainly wide ranging.

I had no idea the billing areas were different to the "headends", which I have heard others posting about. Shamefully, I do not know quite what a "headend" is, I guess it helps send the signal on from VM HQ. I am not even sure where my "headend" is, I would guess Cambridge. I have had to check the app menu daily to see if I had the update. :(

Is there anyone who can help me feel less ignorant....please....

Oh, I am in the PE27 post code area.

A question for Ben and that is that our family is on The VIP Collection so if we were to re-contract if we can get Netflix free for six months then am l right in that there would be no difference to our current VIP bill?.

Still nothing here! I really thought I was Bromley headend, BR8 postcode, billing area 22, but obviously not. Oh well, I am actually off work tomorrow so I don't need it until then. I've got £11 worth of loyalty discounts so I'll stump up the £5.99 Netflix sub and still consider myself ahead. 6 months free is not to be sniffed at, but it is actually only 30 quid saved when you consider the month free that everybody gets.

Makes you realise what excellent value Netflix actually is.

I agree with your point, I am sure it will rile some people over the country. I don't mind personally though. I have ordered my activation code and I would still choose to wait until I got the code before I would use the service anyway. :)

The billing "area" is identifies which billing system you are on, but they aren't always geographic. There are about 20 billing systems, but 54 headends, so some of the billing systems cover more than headend. Area 31 happens to be the one that covers more than any other. (OTOH Bristol has two billing systems for a single headend)

That's it pretty much. It's where the region's broadcast equipment, telephone exchange and some of the broadband equipment is. They are usually anonymous buildings on industrial estates. There are also local hubsites with more equipment, mostly broadband, but sometimes TV-related.

You're on the Luton headend. But this time the rollout isn't even being done strictly by headend. For example, half of Barnsley has been done today.

Yeah, good point. Just think its mental how long its taking to roll out I've had it since 31st October. Netflix has been used to death my twin boys love watching Thomas the tank engine on it.

You get it whether it's off or on, if it's off you'll have to wait while it updates when you switch on.

My update was overnight and we always put ours into standby overnight so not completely powered off. Update went fine in fact we didn't initially realise it had been updated until I spotted a few things different then went hunting for the Netflix app to confirm. So just leave it on standby and you'll be fine or as Nicko has stated you'll have to wait while it installs and reboots when you turn on your device.

l have just spoken to someone on the phone at Virgin and l asked about the Netflix free for 6 months offer and he said yes as long as you re-contract for 12 months that's fine so then he said all you have to do is go to the apps section and you will be able to use it in 20 minutes but l waited 40 minutes just to be on the safe side but now l am there it says start your free month or sign in so the question is do l have to register my detals online or something or do l use the option that says start your free month as l am a bit confused especially when the agreement was for 6 months free as long as l re-contracted.

You'll get an email with a code within 5 days - you then enter this into Netflix and it'll not bill you for six months.

This is in the brief to agents, so there should be no excuse for them to say any differently

Slough and the rest of area 14 appears to have the update today.

funny enough my box decided to restart itself at 21:30 last night and never completed its reboot, after rebooting it again this morning after I woke up it showed the DTV update screen and the I just had to wait for it to clear the "your box is updating" screen, which it has and I now have it.

Considering there is a screen that pops up so that agents confirm the email address the code should be sent to and this wording to read out

Well indeed, it's not your fault - but as it's one of the simpler things to do on an account, not sure why they didn't do it correctly.

You can't complete the addition of the offer onto an account without seeing the pop up as far as I can see.

You can PIN protect the app, however for some reason Netflix themselves don't have any full content lockout system. They said they haven't done it, as there are always ways around.

So even when the app gets profile support, it's still fairly easy to swap profiles

You would think that this would be something they could implement on the 'My Virgin Media' pages...a code specific to your account if you're eligible. If you want to take advantage of it, then do so and once the code is redeemed this is taken as consent to renew your contract for a further 12 months. Those with no code would need to call C.S.

Makes sense to me, but I don't suppose that counts for owt.

Actually the update we're currently getting is in part the same one rolling out to the Premiere boxes in the US at the moment. You can tell this by the fact that some of the most current updates (back to back recordings, DIAL support in YouTube / Netflix) we've got as well.

What did happen is that we caught up with the previous update that the Premiere boxes got (HD screens etc)

There are absolutely no plans to ditch the TiVo.

Brilliant news, how do you like the update?

I got that with the Update on Tuesday, still a little too much for me, I think we need a Red Button channel like YouTube. I have found the quickest way is to search for the show you want in the Tivo Menus tbh.

Going by VM usual standards, we should have it by the end of 2014.

Doubt it, the Netflix app is run by Netflix.

Yeah possibly, took us ages to get the TiVo update that arrived in the States yonks ago.

Virgin Media had to make a deal with Netflix for it to arrive on the Tivos over here as VM is a closed system. Its not that Netflix was part of the update. Otherwise it would of arrived and there wouldn't be 6 months off deals.

Well considering there are those sorts of channels for the other bits, I'm sure it'll come at some point once everyone has the app.

Virgin Media and Liberty Global have stated at no point that the TiVo will be replaced and personally l cannot see that stance changing at least in the next 10 years.

Option 4 for 'change package', then pick the option 2 for 'TV'

Re: TiVo Update/Netflix

Is anyone finding the information on the new planned recordings screen for shows that won't record inaccurate?

For example, it is saying that a repeat showing of Dracula won't record because there is not enough disc space. But the real reason that it won't record is because the first showing will have already been recorded (first showing is showing as set to record).

Similar things are happening with other shows.

From LG's perspective, moving everyone over to the new box would seem to make the most sense. Let's hope that because Tivo has been so successful for VM, they will adopt an 'If it aint broke...' attitude.

But I don't see how anyone not privy to high level management can say for sure that LG won't ditch Tivo for Horizon.

It crosses at Woolwich, so maybe the ferry ;)

Or maybe it goes through the foot tunnel. The network also crosses the river at Isle of Dogs (DLR tunnel?) and one of the bridges around Fulham.

Got it in Maidstone.

How do I get the 6 months virgin offer? I rang them up and they said I could not have it? I have only started a new 12 month a month ago and am happy to sign up for 12 months starting now?

Help!

There doesn't need to be as you can get Netflix on tablets, laptops and most other things; don't see the point of having it on My Virgin Media.

You don't need it there. You can navigate to it through your browser, through apps in Windows 8, Android, ipads, games systems etc.

Your profile follows you everywhere, even to the extent of knowing what films you started and might want to finish on another device.

Just called retentions and politely asked if I could get the free 6 mths netflix deal the guy had a look at my triple xl deal and said I could'nt get the freebie but he could put me on the premiere deal with an 18 month loyalty reduction of £5.00 per month.
well happy :):)

You can't. They must have been pictures of the US Tivo.

You can sort of get the blue background, by going to On Demand and chosing sky on demand

You can't. The VM menu's are all red unless you go to On Demand then go to the Sky sction where the background of part of the screen is blue as Sky say it has to be that way.

Its only the US TiVo that is all blue.

Cheers. Can't find anything online but it led me to several fascinating pages about disused tunnels under the Thames!
