If you watch South American league football on a regular basis the first thing you realise is that, while not always pretty to watch it's very much a team game based on hard work, determination and not one for individuals on the big wedge trying to make a name for themselves.

Not surprising that Costa Rica and Chile inparticular are getting good results.

I have just watched a thrilling game between Germany and Ghana, and was thinking that if the England squad had enough bottle and guts. And played like Ghana.

Then we would not becoming home so early. And what made me really angry is that on Sky News Rooney, was saying that he was devastated at coming home early.

Well to me Hodgson, should be doing the decent thing by resigning.

Hodgson should have had the bottle to drop Rooney, and give someone else a chance

This is what makes England a laughing stock, and its so annoying that each week they play so well for their clubs, but play a stinker for there country - England you are a disgrace to English football

Apart from the fact that even though he was played out of position in the first game he laid the ball on a plate for Sturridge and had the highest successful pass completion, and scored the only goal in the second match and was rated the best player in that game in at least three reports I read. He wasn't brilliant but he was better than most of the others over the whole of the two games.

With less than a third of the premier league being English players, that must limit choice quite a bit.

Players in some of the african teams are so proud to play for their country and put everything in to the game, which see's them doing well sometimes despite the skill difference. If only the rich pampered england team played with as much heart.

Thats not true. Ditching Gerrard so late would have caused issues. Sadly for England Wilshere wasn't fit. And neither was Theo fit. As a DM England have little choice but to convert a CB.

Personally, I would have Gerard playing for england for a few more years,..at least 4 more. And I would equally have him playing for liverpool for at least another 6 years.

It gives me so much pleasure seeing him play for the opposition

http://www.itv.com/news/london/story...jose-mourinho/

Even though l amnot a Chelsea fan, this is one appointment that l would agree one. Hodgson is totally useless at motivating a spoilt lot of players.

Its proved it with the sadness of going home early (l think l predicted this in an earlier comment - l said they wouldn't get out the group stage - as we are not good enough)

With Mourinho, you have a manager that is 'not' scared of the reputation of the player, and he is brilliant as a manager.

Therein lies the problem. Roy is not playing with a defensive midfielder. He's trying to deploy Gerrard as a "regista". Unfortunately, a regista he is not and neer will be: Gerrards passing range spans from abysmal to Hollywood with an alarming rate of randomness. To do that job you have to be consistent and have the decision making ability to choose the right pass 99% of the time. England have neither a defensive midfielder or regista type player.

The other problem in the way that England lined up is the gaping chasm behind Baines and Johnson when they attack. If you're going to play like that then you do need a defensive midfielder, a mobile one who can drop back to cover the full-back position as Mascherano used to do for Liverpool to great effect.

While Welbeck and Sterling do a reasonable job of defending in advanced positions, as wide men they are far too advanced to be of any defensive use in a transition of possession. In fact England line up more like a 4-2-1-3 than a 4-2-3-1 with and without the ball.

Also noted that all/most of the European teams suffered a significant drop in performance from the first game to the second. England poor, Italy poor, Germany lucky to scrape a draw against Ghana, Holland struggled to see off Australia etc.

What was it about then, I thought the advert was to commemorate pirlo's international retirement not so nike could have a go at the biter

I linked the classless to class. you felt it necessary to overshadow his career with this WC. either way your post was uncalled for but hey your entitled to say what you like. well done.

This world cup will hardly overshadow his career, I'm just not going fawn all over him because of the player he used to be, same with Gerrard, he had no greater admirer than me but his time is up to.

Your comments did. Pirlo vs Gerrard...

not in the same league.

Suarez needs to be given a life ban from international football.

He's supposed to be a role model.

Suarez should probably refrain from playing any further competitive sport if this is what he's going to carry on doing. Sick and tired of this circus now :(

Do ITV set out to **** people off? I mean its schoolboy. BBC have the basic brains to show goals from the other game being played at the sametime.

My opionon is that England was that poor in this Torunament, l didn't bother watching the game tonight.

Its typical of The FA, they will stand by Hodgson. If that had happened in any other job he would be sacked.

I feel sorry for the thousands of fans that have spent a fortune to watch crap pure and simple.

I think that The FA should now order Hodgson to either quit or be sacked and bring in someone that will put the pride back into England. Totally disgraceful.

Where l work, even the pubs were not that busy.

I trust the clubs will now demand there players come back for pre season training as a punishment.

That what £6m (£3.5m per year) can do to keep someone in an job.

I think the only reason, and I mean the only reason, Roy is not looking for a new job tonight is because of the compensation required to sack him. FA ran into financial trouble I think when they sacked McClaren and Capello.

I did hear that Capello (aka Deryck Guyler in MB HQ) was on £6m per year.

All downhill since we fired Sven :D.

Roy will keep his job because there is no one else since they have the English only requirement.

---------- Post added at 23:05 ---------- Previous post was at 23:04 ----------

The Mirror also suggests a two-year ban for Suarez! Hope Liverpool put a clause in his contract for that...

thenry 24-06-2014 23:19

Re: World Cup 2014

Roy got the team playing in a positive way when he first took over then it become the same old bore tactical static crap then a bit more of positive then back to static and todays nobody knows. Jose may of thrown his hat in the ring but more of a bore? Football is meant to entertain.

Fabio Capello is the highest paid International manager. Static.

Suarez has to recieve an all out ban. Liverpool could terminate his contract.
