Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Frank Warren said on Bunce's BBC radio show last night that Hopkins Dawson 2 on April 28th is on Boxnation, although I have seen nothing on the website or anywhere else confirming it, again like Mayweather Cotto it's a co promotion which I'll guess is why it's not on Sky Sports.

Dereck Chirosa slapping Klitschko earlier today was a beauty. Not very classy but will certainly make things more interesting. I think it's on You Tube but I don't have a link. Try and check it out!

Footage of the incident is all over the internet and is being shown on SKY Sports News every 15 minutes or so. It's also in the top 3 sports news stories for the day on most news websites. The incident has boxing forums buzzing. The man knows how to create a buzz and draw attention which Frank Warren and BoxNation will be delighted with. He thrives on controversy and as former WCW President Eric Bischoff once said, "Controversy creates ca$h". |

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
James DeGale’s on-off European super-middleweight title defence against Italy's Christian Sanavia could be back on again. According to the European Boxing Union, DeGale will make the first defence of his EBU crown against Sanavia on 21st April 2012 in Denmark (no venue listed) on a bill staged by Italian promoters Round Zero.
DeGale bounced back from his solitary career loss to arch-rival George Groves to claim the European title with a hard-fought majority decision over Piotr Wilczewski in October but hasn’t fought since. The 36-year-old Sanavia, 45-5-1, is entering the final echelons of his 15-year career but commands respect as a former WBC and European super-middleweight title holder. It remains to be seen if DeGale will be allowed to box on this date given his current contractual wranglings with manager Frank Warren. Last month the Olympic gold medalist surprisingly announced his intention to split from Warren. This was swiftly refuted by Frank Warren Promotions who issued a counter statement to confirm that DeGale is under contract with them until 14 April 2013. |

It's beginning to look really good for Boxnation. They seem to be on good terms with Top Rank and now GBP. It's also good to seem them picking up more European action outwith Sauerland events with the likes of Denis Lebedev vs Shawn Cox and Lukas Konecny vs Salim Larbi next week. They are on the brink of being able to deliver 8 shows per month, which for me is great value at £10.00 per month. Boxing fans are spoiled in April: 04/04/12 - Denis Lebedev Vs. Shawn Cox - Boxnation 05/04/12 - Lukas Konecny Vs. Salim Larbi - Boxnation 13/04/12 - Bigger's Better - Eurosport 13/04/12 - Tony Bellew Vs. Danny McIntosh - SKY Sports 13/04/12 - Michael Katsidis Vs. Albert Mensah - ESPN 14/04/12 - Tyson Fury Vs. Martin Rogan - Channel 5 21/04/12 - Anthony Crolla Vs. Derry Matthews - SKY Sports 21/04/12 - James DeGale Vs. Christian Sanavia - Boxnation 21/04/12 - Anselmo Moreno Vs. David De la Mora - Boxnation 27/04/12 - Ismayl Sillakh Vs. Denis Grachev - ESPN 28/04/12 - Jack Morris Vs. Simon Parkins - Eurosport 28/04/12 - Nathan Cleverly Vs. Robin Krasniqi - Boxnation 28/04/12 - Bernard Hopkins Vs. Chad Dawson - Boxnation There's got to be a point when BBC or ITV realise boxing is going through a resurgence. I'm finding it hard to remember a time when so much boxing was available on TV. The sport needs more free coverage on the main terrestrial channels. |

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?

Juan Manuel Marquez Vs. Serhiy Fedchenko and Brandon Rios Vs. Richard Abril are HBO PPV on the 14th April, the only weekend Boxnation have no confirmed action yet, and is a Top Rank show. I've got a really good feeling Boxnation will snap this up. Seeing SKY have shown 2 of Sturms last fights, and they interviewed him 2 weeks ago on Ringside, I have a sneaky suspicion they will grab Strum Vs. Zbik and show it as a double header on the same night as Bellew Vs. McIntosh. The Karoly Balzsay Vs. Dimitri Sartison card from Germany on the 21st April looks like it has the potential to be great. I've seen people asking Boxnation about this card on Facebook but the replies don't seem positive. Sadly we might miss this one. I beleive Jermain Taylor next outing will be on Premier Sports as part of their ongoing deal with Lou Dibella. Vyacheslav Senchenko Vs. Paul Malignaggi is a Sunday broadcast, WTF? Not too sure anyone will pick this up, but I would like to see it. I'd still like to see some action from around the world, especially from Japan, Thailand, South Africa and the Philippines. Plenty of world title action at the lower weight divisions. In 2 weeks time Vic Darchinyan takes on Shinsuke Yamanaka for the WBC bantamweight title in Tokyo. Even if these international cards could be shown on a delayed basis I'd be happy. Nodoby ever seems to pick up these cards. |

I don't for one minute believe McIntosh is ill. This is now the second time the fight has been moved. Firstly it was moved from 14th April to 13th as it clashed with both Liverpool Vs. Everton and the Grand National at Aintree however I believe it was down to Channel 5 announcing that Tyson Fury Vs. Martin Rogan would be shown live at the same time. Then when Boxnation announce Sturm Vs. Zbik will clash with Bellew Vs. McIntosh surprise surprise the fight is moved yet again too the 27th April when funnily enough it doesn't clash with any other televised fight. |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
I pay £76 per month for sky full package including sports, and espn.
Question Does this Box Nation mean that my sports package will be diluted, and I will effectively have to pay another £10 per month. If so, do you think this is a foul, and just another way of squeezing the customer. We will get fed up with being treated like this. |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Quote:
SKY used to offer between 4 and 5 PPV shows per year at £14.99 each however last year they decided to stop PPV. Frank Warren, who used to have 3 of these shows, took his fighters off SKY and helped launch Boxnation. People who subscribe to SKY are still getting the same amount of shows they did in 2010 and 2011. Boxnation launching hasn't had any effect on what SKY are putting out each month. It just means other promoters who have contracts with SKY are getting more air time, filing the void left by Frank Warren. Boxnation is a channel for hardcore boxing fans. Since the demise of Setanta Sports in 2009 Boxing fans in the UK experienced somewhat of a drought in terms of international action with SKY only picking up "massive" fights. SKY had a 2 year window to snap up boxing rights and did nothing. They let boxing fans down massively. ESPN too have done far too little to appease boxing fans. Personally I'm delighted to pay £10.00 per month to Boxnation to access the best boxing action on TV. Boxnation is exactly what I've been waiting for since Setanta collapsed. Who knows maybe Boxnation launching will give SKY the kick up the rear they needed and SKY subscribers will be treated to even more boxing in the near future. |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
boxing fans need the 2 channels fighting to show the best action week in week out and for now thats what looks like is happening! i cant think of many decents fights that havent been on either channel since boxnation started exept the shows on channel 5 and for me its brilliant. and i save money by staying in to watch it!

Hasim Rahman - 14th July 2012 The Bunce Show was good last night. I enjoy when Frank Warren is in the studio. The e-mail from the Czech Republic was classic! |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
theres enough fighters to do something but would the promoters want it? and would some of the fighters? i think 16 is to many but 8 should be easy enough to arrange and would be better than the super6 as it would have correct numbers for a straight knock out format. id like to see boytsov, helenius, chisora, povetkin, chagaev, price,ge rber, mitchell if i had to choose 8!

Alternatively I'd like Boxnation to land HBO's new boxing show fronted by Jim Lampley. In his first major interview for nearly a decade, former boxer Frank Bruno re-lives the dramatic highs and lows of his journey from troubled adolescent to world champion, followed by personal meltdown and mental illness. He reveals the trauma of his retirement, divorce and committal to a psychiatric hospital, and how he finally battled his way back to health and happiness. Whilst ITV have let us down badly in terms of live boxing, they have shown some decent boxing content in recent months. We had The Fight Of Their Lives back in December telling the story of Benn and McClellan plus recently they ran a series of new shows to celebrate the 70th birthday of Ali. |

So it looks like SKY are cutting back, and Hatton could end up on Boxnation however he did do some shows for Eurosport last year. If David Price doesn't make swift progress, or join Matchrooms ever growing roster, Frank Maloney will be dumped shortly too. Maloney only has about 6 dates on SKY whilst Matchroom, reportedly, have 20. Thank goodness for Boxnation! |

Looking forward to the Vegas card this weekend, love Buncie great larger than life character!

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
This is a true story about Frank Bruno.
About 10 years ago I won employee of the month at work. As a reward I could choose a prize up to the value of £150.00 from Red Letter Days. For anyone who doesn't know what Red Letter Days are: http://www.redletterdays.co.uk/Home Anyway for £150.00 I could train and spar with Frank Bruno for the afternoon. I called up, booked the session and couldn't stop telling people about it. I was so excitied. About 2 weeks before I was due to go to the session, Frank was sadly sectioned for the first time amidst rumours of sleeping in a boxing ring in the garden etc... Red Letter Days called me asking if I wanted to cancel. My reply wasn't particularly respectful of Franks situation, but it was born out of devastation and disappointment. "Of course I ******g want to cancel. What if he gets confused and thinks I'm Mike Tyson. What's going to stop him from ******g me up?" ---------- Post added at 21:35 ---------- Previous post was at 20:05 ---------- Quote:
On a separate matter, Buncey let out some interesting figures during his Boxing Hour on Monday. He claimed last time Boxnation had a big fight, being Klitschko Vs. Chisora, Boxnations booking system went down when up to 40,000 people tried to subscribe on the night. Now that could be nothing more than a gross exaggeration by Buncey, but if those figures are anywhere near to the real number of subscribers then Boxnation are doing fairly well. I always wondered how many subscribers the channel had. Before you even consider "armchair fans" boxing is the kind of sport that participants of the sport watch as often as they can. I bet the vast majority of Britain's professional fighters, amateur fighters, retired fighters, trainers, coaches, promoters, journalists, referees, judges, ring side doctors, corner men, photographers and broadcasters all have a subscription with Boxnation. Boxnation could easily have between 5000 and 10000 subscribers from within the "world of boxing" alone. |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley on the 9th June is on Primetime, I'm quite dissapointed in this, with Boxnations arrival and Sky pulling out of ppv for "the foreseeable future" I was hoping to see the end of £15 ppv's in the UK.

I hope people don't start moaning that Boxnation failed to grab the UK broadcast rights. I'm more dissapointed that SKY Sports didn't land the rights. Surely SKY would have enough funds to snap up every televised event from America if they really wanted to. |

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Enjoyed the last episode of 24/7. I'm looking forward to tonights action. Mayweather Vs. Cotto should start between 4:30am to 5:00am depending on how the undercard action goes.
It's interesting that Boxnation have Anthony Crolla, a Ricky Hatton fighter, as one of their studio pundits. Even more interesting is Spencer Fearon, of Hard Knock Boxing Promotions on commentary. I wonder if Boxnation are branching out to get more promoters and more British fighters on their channel? Here's my picks for tonight: Robert Stieglitz beats Nader Hamdan on points Marco Huck beats Ola Afolabi on points Saul Alvarez beats Shane Mosley on points Floyd Mayweather beats Miguel Cotto by late stoppage If there is going to be an upset in any fight tonight, it'll be in the Huck Vs. Afolabi fight. Huck had a tough fight against Povetkin at heavyweight only 9 weeks ago. Huck put on 12 pounds for the fight coming in at 210lb. He should weight around 198lb tonight. The weight gain, and weight loss might just be a factor. Afolabi believed he was robbed in their 2009 battle and is highly motivated. This should be a war. Let's hope Britain has a new Cruiserweight champion before Mayweather and Cotto face off. |

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Just out of my bed about a hour ago. So tired.
I am beginning to get pretty annoyed with Boxnation. Usually I watch Boxnation live and record any other boxing that so happens to be on SKY, ESPN or Channel 5 at the same time. I save these for my Sunday morning viewing. For the 3rd week straight the broadcast team have gave away the outcome of fights that have been televised elsewhere on the same night, before I've had a chance to watch the action. 3 weeks ago they spoiled the outcome of Crolla Vs. Mathews. Last week they hinted at the outcome of Sillakh Vs. Grachev and last night spoiled the Paul McCloskey fight. It's so unprofessional. I've e-mailed Boxnation asking for this to stop. |

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Some good action still to come before the end of May. Things seem a bit quiet on Boxnation for the next 3 weeks.
Solis Vs. Airich on the 19th May is on Premier Sports. I wonder if Boxnation will be showing the Telefutura broadcast on the 12th May, between Vicente Escobedo and Juan Ruiz as part of their deal with Golden Boy. My understanding is Boxnation will show 1 Telefutura broadcast each month plus a major show from either HBO or Showtime. There might be a good chance we'll see the Gennady Golovkin card on the 12th May on Boxnation seeing they picked up his last fight. Actually it might depend on what relationships are like between K2 Promotions and Frank Warren after what happened with Chisora in Germany. Another event they could pick up cheaply is Denis Shafikov defending his European title against Brunet Zamora on the 31st May in Russia. Shafikov looked great a couple of months ago when he easily defeated Scotlands Lee McAllister on SKY. |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
I've just noticed that Boxrec have Ricky Burns Vs. Kevin Mitchell listed for 14th July at Upton Park. Interestingly Alexander Povetkin Vs. Hasim Rahman is listed on the undercard. Looks like this will be Boxnations "Heavyweight Announcement" and not Haye Vs. Chisora.

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
David Haye Vs. Dereck Chisora will be the making of Boxnation. David Haye delivered 800,000 SKY Box Office buys when he fought John Ruiz, 900,000 against Audley Harrison and almost 1,000,000 against Klitchsko.
It's not inconceivable that Boxnation could have between 750,000 and 1,000,000 new subscribers for the fight. People were prepared to pay £14.99 to watch David Haye on SKY Box Office, with a terrible undercard supporting the main event. Boxnation will offer the fight for £10.00 for a 30 day subscription plus Burns Vs. Mitchell and Povetkin Vs. Rahman on the undercard. As a fan of boxing, and Boxnation, I'm so happy for them. |

Both boxers should be in jail. Not financially benefitting from this disgrace. It's not even a sport anymore. It's a circus. |

Personally it's a fight I want to see, not just because of the events in Germany. Haye and Chisora are 2 of Britains top heavyweights, and it should be an exciting fight. Boxing, like most sports nowadays, is all about the money and less about the sporting achievement. Boxing is the most dangerous sport on the planet. Fighters have short careers, and put their lives on the line every-time they enter the ring for our entertainment. I have no problem with any boxer cashing in when they can. If people are strongly opposed to Haye Vs. Chisora then do have a choice. They can simply ignore the fight and refuse to either buy tickets to the event or refuse to subscribe to Boxnation. What happened in Germany was not as bad as the events which took place on the 25th January 1995 when Eric Cantona launched a 'kung-fu' style kick into the crowd, directed at Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons, followed by a series of punches. Cantona was banned for 8 months, fined £30,000 but continued to receive full pay from Manchester United. That's a perfect example of a sportsman who should have went to jail, shouldn't have benefited financially and brought the sport into disrepute. Cantona makes Haye and Chisora look like a couple of spoilt brats. |
