Hopefully they'll expand on features like these with the new EPG.

When is the new EPG coming out?

Yes its a brand new show.

If you want to keep track of the major new shows that start you can go to the 'Showcase' section of the Sky+ app and it usually lets you know what new shows are starting and also returning series for the popular new shows.

Have you ordered Sky talk and Sky BB if so they'll have activated Anytime+ hence why it's working with a VM BB connection either that or they've started the roll out to non Sky BB customers early.

I have ordered Sky Talk Free time and BB Unlimited. It wasn't activated when i had install as they said i needed an active Sky line. I rang up about Remote Record and again they said i needed an active Sky Line. My line doesnt get activated till this Thursday. Checked on Saturday and Anytime+ was activated and now Remote Record is active

They always activate Anytime+ for anyone who's ordered Sky BB so even connecting another ISP will make it work , I take it you already had a BT line and socket it just needed activating by Sky. What speed estimate have they give you ?

It was a BT line before i moved in so VM used the same line so they are just transferring it over. Speed estimate is 9.6 -16.6 MB

Had an email auto generated email saying i have now activated Sky Remote Record. This came after i Remote Recorded from Sky TV Guide site, done a few from phone and says all ok. Maybe it was just that i need to activate from site first

AFAIK they don't announce boxsets in advance of adding them so there is no way to know.

My personal feeling is that they won't be adding this for some time yet as they just repeated the whole of S1 on Atlantic in the lead up to S2 arriving.

I'm not sure if the series link will record previous episodes.

You could try adding it to your never miss list and Sky will let you know when its on again.

Is it working on both your Sky+HD boxes ? I had to make a few phone calls to get it up and running on my second box , hopefully they've made it less complicated now.

I'm not sure yet, I need to get some home-plugs or the Sky WiFi adapter to connect the bedroom box to the internet. I have to admit though that I thought it was activated by account rather than per box. Was your 2nd box an older Thompson one?

The 250gb box is actually 500gb with 250gb reserved for Anytime the other 250 is your personal planner allowing 60hrs HD recording.

That is true. Just had a thought. Even thou i have just had Sky installed can i buy a 1TB box from else where (not Sky direct) and if so will it work as soon as i plug it in and put in my vewing card or would i need to ring them up to say i have a new box?

Sorry to ask yet another question (suprised i havnt been shot yet) but im having issues with series links. I do a series link on planner and its not recording them all, it only shows a few its going to record and thats in playyer any tv guide. I did a series link for MOTD on my iPhone using Sky+ app and when it got to the box it didnt have the green series link line to it so i had to put that on manaully but phone said series link was sent, do i have a fault with the box? I have done a Sky+ rebuild a few times and same thing

My MOTD series link sent from my iPhone arrived no problems and was a working series link. Here's how Sky+ series link work as they are different to TIVO.

Say Episode one of Hawaii Five O is on Sunday night at 9pm on Sky One HD and you've set a series link for it youll see that episode in your planner , once that episode has aired and been recorded you'll see Episode 2 in your planner and so on , basically you'll only see the next episode listed. Hope that makes sense.

Just checked myself and you are correct you can record two shows whilst downloading and watching Anytime+.

Thanks for checking the Anytime+ downloading for me lads.

I had the same problem with sending series links from my iPad & iPhone. The solution I found was to unplug the box, hold the backup button on the box and then plug the box back in whilst keeping back up pressed down. After a few seconds you'll see an updating screen. Once the update has been completed, wait 3 minutes before turning it back on as normal. :)

Excellent advice , occasionally the installer can forget to update the firmware , this happened to me on my multiroom install and the procedure you've described remedied it.

Yeah, the VM TV Guide app is the only iOS app I've ever used that doesn't feel right when scrolling. Maybe this has since been fixed in an update but I had to delete it because the scrolling felt so.... Off.

The TiVo app on the other hand was excellent. :)

Im sure your well aware it doesnt ;) Anytime+ is a progressive download service the Non PVR has no HDD hence why it doesn't work , later in the year when the shared planner is released I'm presuming you'll be able to watch shows downloaded on your Sky+HD box off Anytime+ through your HD non PVR

Way i read that is that this will be very simuliar to Tivo Multi Room Streaming, meaning we can watch programs off the HDD on other Sky+ box, or is it just for Anytime+ downloads?

You've read it correctly mate, the shared planner will allow you to look at the recordings from every box in the house and playback from whichever room you like. :)

Yeah, that was where I read it.

It's not unreasonable. My Samsung TV does a fine job of streaming over ADSL without a hard drive.

Sky Atlantic to air Mad Men premiere with vintage 1960s ad breaks

Quote:

Mad Men's attention to period detail will extend beyond the show itself when the long-awaited fifth series makes its UK debut tonight: Sky Atlantic will not air any current advertisements during the two-hour season premiere, replacing them entirely with classic promos from the 1960s.
Brands that would have been top of the wishlist for Don Draper's British equivalents, including Milk Tray, Citroen, Kit Kat, Tetley and Birdseye, will feature. There will also be a smattering of American advertisements from the 1960s, including American Airlines and Pringles.

That's because Hugh the new Sky+ box is just a Sky+HD box without HD activated , hence it won't work on the old white Sky+ boxes ;)

New deal brings more Ryder Cup and European Tour golf to Sky Sports.

Quote:

Sky Sports has been awarded three more Ryder Cups and another six years of European Tour golf in a new deal with the European Tour.

The agreement means Sky Sports viewers can continue to enjoy regular tournament coverage of some of golf's best players, including Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, as well as Europe's mouth-watering contests with the United States until the end of 2018.

The deal will take the partnership between Sky Sports and the European Tour into its 25th year, a relationship that has witnessed a huge increase in events, prize money and countries visited, while the Ryder Cup has become one of the biggest sporting events in the world.

The new contract provides Sky Sports with TV, mobile, online and tablet rights for:

RYDER CUP - Exclusive live coverage of three Ryder Cups: Gleneagles in 2014, Minnesota in 2016 and Paris in 2018. The 2012 Ryder Cup from Medinah will also be live on Sky Sports as part of the existing deal.

EUROPEAN TOUR - A minimum of 28 events from the Race to Dubai including for the first time on Sky Sports, exclusive live coverage of all four days of both the BMW PGA Championship from Wentworth and the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Castle Stuart.

WORLD GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS - Exclusive live coverage of all four World Golf Championship events: the Accenture Matchplay Championship, Cadillac Championship, Bridgestone Invitational in the USA and HSBC Champions tournament in China.

Update – New release for 1TB & DRX890

Quote:

Hi All,
*
We are updating the software on most existing customer Sky+HD boxes over the coming months in order to roll out the latest feature improvements and user experience to the Sky Guide. This software has been developed to be easier and simpler to use than ever before, using the very latest design and user navigation.*
*
We are always grateful for constructive feedback from our forum users; in many cases this significantly aids our efforts to resolve problems. We are in the final stage of trial and would like to make this new software available to forum customers who have a 1TB*/ DRX890 set top box in advance of mass rollout. Whilst the new look will be fixed for the foreseeable future, we will be very interested in your comments on the design together with any reliability issues experienced,*
*
The initial rollout will be slow while we monitor results closely, and the full rollout to all 1TB*and DRX890 boxes is expected to take a few months due to the large population. There will also be some fixes incorporated, plus other stability improvements, so you could be amongst the very first to receive these.
*
If you wish to take up this option, we will need you to send a*private message*to Sky+Forum+Team with the title New**Release and include your e-mail address, 9 digit card Number & the 6 digit version number from the System Details screen by noon on Wednesday 04/04/12. We will then perform an over the air download to these boxes, probably on or around Wednesday 11th April.

24 BBC Olympic channels on Sky

Quote:

BSkyB is to show ‘every second of the BBC’s 2012 Olympics coverage’ with the help of 24 brand new channels, dedicated to the London Games. More than 10 million Sky homes will be able to watch the 2012 London Olympics through two dozen brand new BBC channels which will be dedicated to the BBC’s live coverage of the games.
The innovative agreement will mean that Sky homes will have access to comprehensive coverage of this summer’s Olympics, with up to 24 live dedicated HD and SD channels running simultaneously at peak times during the games. The 48 brand new channels, which are being created specifically for the Olympics, will launch into Sky’s Electronic Programme Guide and will show every sport from cycling to archery, swimming to wrestling, tennis to the 100 metre final. Alongside coverage on the existing BBC channels, Sky homes will be able to enjoy 2,500 hours’ worth of live BBC coverage throughout the Games.
What’s more, because Sky homes will be able to view the channels via the Sky EPG, Sky+ homes will be able to record the coverage to watch at a time that suits them so that they can record every one of their favourite events and not miss any of the action.

Sky has confirmed that Sky News Arabia, the broadcaster's new Arabic-language channel to take on al Jazeera, will officially launch next month.
