That would have been nice, wouldn't it?:(

Virgin, please wake up and realise that content is more important than gadgetry - tell you what, Virgin, you get Sky Atlantic and I'll buy Tivo, can't say fairer than that!!

I wish :)

The loss of HBO is a big blow to the quality of TV across all networks (IMO)

I continue to hope VM will be able to add "Atlantic" in the near future

A very valid point , with the launch of TIVO I also feel they have took their eye off other areas of the TV service especially HD content.

Hi All,

Just to answer a few of the questions raised so far here:
  • We're very excited that to be launching Sky Anytime (& Anytime+) on our on demand service in the next few months.
  • It will carry programs from the sky channels that are available on Virgin Media TV:
  • Sky1, Sky Living, Sky Arts, Sky News (available to XL TV Customers),
  • Sky Movies (for Sky Movies Collection customers)
  • Sky Sports (for Sky Sports Collection customers)
  • There will be hundreds of TV Shows and Movies available at launch, and that will grow in the weeks and months following launch
I'm afraid I don't have an exact launch date just yet, but as soon as we do we'll let everyone know.

That's awesome news really.
Moves VM's on demand offering even further ahead of Sky's so I'm really surprised by this.
Anytime I could see, but Anytime+ as well? That's just amazing. I guess they're trying to preempt the competition commission's decision, they can turn around and say "what you on about? We already offer them the on demand rights!" now.

But will they offer HD?

Only some PPV movies are HD on Sky Anytime+. If they do allow VM access to HD VOD content, I bet that £7 Sky HD charge will come into play.

For Sports and Movies yeah otherwise it would be a workaround for those who don't pay the fee. Don't see them charging for the others though.

Just checked my Sky Anytime , I have 13 movies available all HD. What I can't understand about Sky giving Anytime+ is the service on Sky isn't available to non Sky BB subscribers so there will be a lot of peeved Sky TV customers me being one of them.

Are they PPV movies? (I'm working on a big update for my PVR Document, just trying to get the details correct).

I can kinda understand why Sky are doing that, they can control Quality of Service on their own network (ditto BT Vision requiring BT Broadband). Still, they'll have to open it up to other ISPs at some point (or maybe use BT's fibre network, if BT let them)

We have a "next few months" that's good enough for me. As long as it's here for Christmas I'll be happy because I never expected this to happen.

Exactly, for many people the best way to get Anytime+ will be to switch to VM? It's strange, but yet exciting!

They're movies from the movie channels, within the 15month exclusivity window that Sky get on them after the 45day PPV window.

The deal is understood to initially include around 100 hours of content, which will start to be made available this autumn. The Sky content will sit in Virgin’s TV Choice archive rather than form part of its catch-up section.

ITV Player to start charging from January for some content.

Quote:

ITV will introduce micropayments for its ITV Player online TV service at the beginning of next year. The commercial TV broadcaster intends to launch a range of pay systems, says ITV chief executive Adam Crozier.
"Our pay mechanism will launch at the turn of the year, we have picked our partners," he says. "We are working on the consumer proposition, what people are prepared to pay for and what will work and won't work."

Just what virgin customers(and former customers) have been calling for; yet more on-demand! New channels? Nah,virgin customers don`t want that! Sounds like another case of virgin telling customers what they want rather than giving them what they want.

l never delude myself but l certainly do not adopt the pessimism that has been prevalent among some forum members lately with regards to new channels and my advice is to wait and see what the rest of this year offer and you never know you might be surprised.

Mine is not pessimism Den,I would love to tell Sky and Murdoch and all they stand for to go and jump but the truth of the matter is there is some content that Sky offer (and do annoyingly well) that for me Virgin have not yet matched,I will use Sky Atlantic HD and the full use and response of the red button service as an example as I am an avid sports nut.Virgin provides the very best broadband service of any I have ever tried (and I have used plenty over the years),their phone service also does it for me,my only lasting doubt are the issues I have stated above,so all in all I would love VM to come out in the next few months and say they are offering these services and who knows I may then be rivaling you as Richard Bransons number 1 fan.:D:D::D

Firstly we will be getting the Sky Sports red button very soon but how much depth and functionality that will be on it is another matter until we get it which will be very soon and on your second point well yes l would like Sky Atlantic but at a price that does not border on greed and stupidity and well if l am Richard Bransons greatest fan then l wonder who is Murdoch's greatest fan ( MM ):D:D:D

Den , Mr Murdoch is a horrible man in my opinion and I hope through the government he gets what's coming to his empire. Kop 32 has just summed up excellently , I would sooner use VM for all three of my services and this Sky OD deal is a brilliant addition for VM , the minute VM can offer me a full red button service , Sky Atlantic , ESPNA HD and Sports 3 and 4 HD i'll take a TIVO and comeback.

Were am I blaming VM ?

I take Sky as these are the channels I watch the most , I'm not interested in corporate arguments between companies nor am I loyal to one company I'm interested in price and channel range on offer. Once VM add them or Sky are made to give access to them , I then have an option.

MM is spot on again,

He is with the prover that give him the channels he want's but that doesn't stop him from having a valid opinion on VM

I am with VM have been for years, but I would love to have "Atlantic" as many of us would, even as a premium add on

I will "keep the faith" with VM, in the believe that if its commercially possible for them, then "Atlantic" will be part of the package in the future

Don't worry , as Den says forums would be a boring place if we all agreed. I honestly believe this deal VM have signed for Sky's Anytime content is a top drawer decision , it's made me seriously think of VM when my Sky contract is up. Which just goes to show how content sways people from one provider to another. I agree with your view and many others that VM should get fair access to Sky content in much the same way Sky should get a fair price after all they invest a lot. With Sky Sports 3 and 4 HD , ESPNA HD and Sky Atlantic HD I would be back with VM at contract end.

Sky Movies OD and in HD on VM will be a real bonus for movie subscribers.

John.

Well there is a fair bit there that I would like to watch,

I suppose the only new show is "Nurse Jackie" and "The Therapist" and even though its an "Atlantic" repeat "Broadwalk Empire" would be new to me

And I would like another go at, "The Soprano's", "Big Love", "Carnival" so all in all I would like the schedule, I suppose it's all down to personal choice in the end

Don't underestimate the appeal of X-File reruns and repeats of Star Trek Voyager. :p:

Personally I think the channel is over-hyped. Sure, there's some good stuff on there (Games of Thrones) but I'm glad VM didn't accept Sky's initial asking price, bearing in mind the ratings for the channel which aren't great.

I'm sure VM will get it, eventually, and hopefully not for a "we have to add £1.50 to your line rental because of this channel" price.

To be fair, lots of channels show repeats, it's the new content they show which is why I want it.

Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Treme, The Borgias, Blue Bloods - all of these I wanted to watch - I cannot think of another channel which has so many programmes I would like to watch.

Alas, I cannot get Sky, so I must wait for VM to get the channel and if it cost extra I would pay it and not be too fussed - a worthwhile investment to my mind.

http://www.mediaweek.co.uk/News/Most...-VoD-deal-Sky/

UKTV signs major VoD deal with Sky

UKTV, the digital TV broadcaster, has launched its first video-on-demand service, after signing a deal that will bring classic BBC programming such as 'Fawlty Towers' to Sky Anytime+.
Doctor Who: among programmes to be available on demand to Sky customers

As part of the deal, Sky will add three high-definition UKTV channels to the two it already offers. Watch HD and Dave HD are scheduled to launch in October and Alibi HD will go live in 2012.

Now I'm only guessing here but with Eden HD and Good Food HD already on Sky thats going to be 5 channels in HD made by a company that VM own 50% in that we have not been told we will get by a certain date if ever.......

Well done VM you should be ashamed.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

I have just sent an email the Neil Berkett asking what the reason for this is, likening it to a slap in the face of it's customers.

My suspicion is money, even though they own 50% is doesn't mean that can cut themselves a deal, that's anti competitive, also BBCW would have something to say about that. Sky are the ones with the seemingly bottomless pockets after all.

I am beginning to wonder if VM have enough band width to carry anymore HD channels. :(

It's not a bandwidth problem for sure.

Nothing like watching HD repeats on Dave HD. ;)

My suspicion is money, even though they own 50% is doesn't mean that can cut themselves a deal, that's anti competitive, also BBCW would have something to say about that. Sky are the ones with the seemingly bottomless pockets after all.

The reply should be interesting, although I doubt you will get more than the normal formatted answer of " We are always looking to improve our TV offer and we are in negotiations or we have no plans to add these channels at the present time.
At least you have let them know how you feel as I have on numerous occasions.:(

I don't know, I have already had a couple of frank phone calls with them. Like the time they said if they owned Sky Atlantic they would probably ask Sky stupid money for it too!

Dave HD is a stupid idea, but Watch and Alibi do show a bit of original content that is half decent (eg. Castle) so its good to hear they're coming albeit not to us at the moment.

Also, when are the Red Bee Media-designed catchup services coming (to non-TV devices)? Its nice to watch iPlayer on the laptop, but the picture quality from other channels is dire.

Virgin will have to do a lot in the next 6 months tv wise to win any new customers as l find it staggering that a Vod deal was not done first with Virgin but done with Sky and the same deal seems to apply to the UKTV HD channels, one word staggering.

Hopefully once vm sell its stake in UKTV, any deal may involve vm taking all missing uktv channels along with any that Scipps (the purchaser-to-be of vm's stake) wish to add.

Your guess is as good as mine, but the deal according to media reports should finalise "soon."
