I am on VIP20 and received a letter today saying 1/10/2010 £2 increase on sky premium channels and won't be offering £1 discount for e-billing so £3 increase :td::td:

As you have the ebill discount that means you have been on VIP since before April - so will be paying £94.49 if my calculations are correct

So that means you could upgrade to VIP 50 for £2.01. If you were to order it now, all you would have to pay to get 50Mbit installed along with the Sky HD is the £20 activation fee for the broadband.

As you are upgrading you would also get a V HD box with HD activated for free to replace your standard SD additional box

I have been thinking about upgrade to VIP50 but not sure about stability of 50meg in my area(uddingston)and tying myself into a new 12 month contract but it seems virgin are making the choice for me with price difference

I would advise you to call in after 0800 tomorrow as an advisor will listen to your requirements and then match that against a suitable package with a price.

Just call tomorrow on 150.

Is that new in the last week cause I upgraded to vip 50 from vip 20 and was told I would have to pay for a hd box to replace the sd one and pay £49 for activation ? I only upgraded 3 weeks ago

It's been true since the 2nd of August, unfortunately due to computer glitch the system is still trying to charge for the additional HD activation. All agents and managers should be aware that it shouldn't be charged, and it should have been briefed out again this week

When did you order the upgrade?

If it was after the 2nd I would phone back and get them to sort it out. Get them to read 'Maestro News' If you got the V HD box installed but charged for activation they should refund it. If you didn't get it installed because of the charge they should arrange for it to be installed. If you don't get anywhere with the first person you speak to, ask for the call to be escalated and keep going until it's resolved

I was told exactly the same thing: an extra £49 for the SD box upstairs to be upgraded to a VHD so I told them to forget it.

My 50Mb is due to be installed on Tuesday so it looks like I'll be giving them a ring tomorrow, or am I best waiting until Monday?

Thanks for the heads up Ben. http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/im...ons/icon14.gif

Took the plunge yesterday and upgraded to VIP50 ;) had to wait till he verified 50Mbit install along with the Sky HD and only £20 activation fee for the broadband.Asked about Vbox but got told £49 activation fee and could not do this for nothing.I did quote to him Get them to read 'Maestro News' but still nothing unless he did not actually read it :eeek:

Thanks ben for push i needed for upgrade :)

I called up retentions today just to enquire at the price difference.

Was told an extra £15.56 per month... mentioned the forums no help.

Maybe it is because I signed up to a deal to get an additional V+ box added to my VIP20 package?

Yes an extra V+HD on top of the 2 inclusive boxes would be an extra £15.50

Fair enough - it is a little disappointing when you want to upgrade your package that any discounts negotiated are wiped clean - I guess I will just wait out my 12m and see how the grass lies :)

Is the VIP50 deal currently being offered the improvement to VIP that is being promised Q1 2011 as per Diane in CEO's office?

If I upgrade, is it likely the Q1 offer will be better(Tivo?) but then tied into VIP50 until next September?

Cheers

My Experience

phoned Straight through to retentions.

Pleasant chat with a guy called Kevin, along the lines of:

"Hi, I've come thorught to you about the VIP50 deal, CS stilll seem rather confused.."
"Not a problem, sir, how can we help."

3 minutes later - all booked in, £20 activation fee waived.

Oh aye, also confirmed £97.50 Septmber, £96.50 form October

So, I've had an appointment booked for them to install the 50Mb today (31st) between 1-6pm since the 17th, with a letter of conformation received. At 6.45pm there's still no sign of an engineer so I ring CS to see what they're playing at, only to be told the appointment is for the 2nd of September 8am-1pm & was booked on the 22nd of August.

Nice of them to change the installation time/date and not inform me, to say I'm fuming would be a massive under-statement!

Ok so I've read alot of this thread but not all.

I am on VIP 20mb. 1 HD box, one SD box.

I pay £92 if I don't make any phone calls. That is going up to £94 right?

So what is the upgrade on offer to me? Thanks.

Same here. I feel like the phone part of the package is wasted on me as I never use my landline. In fact, I don't even have a phone plugged into the socket at the moment as it was just gathering dust. I'd much rather have 50mb broadband and Sky HD and I'm sure others feel the same.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

There has been talk about a new improved VIP package and when I got some mail from Virgin Media a day or two ago I thought it would contain details but it was just advising about the price increases.

When I signed up to the VIP it was really good value.During the spat with Sky I signed up to a 2 pack ( Entertainment & Knowledge) basic box subscription with Sky as I did not want to miss out on Sky One and some of the other channels. Now that Sky & Virgin have resolved their difference I am paying for Virgin VIP and Sky.

I am reluctant to give up on Sky because the sound quality and subtitling is better which is useful as my wife wears hearing aids. However like other VIP users there are bits I do not use like the mobile phone and international call elements.

Being on a pension, I would like to reduce my expenditure. I am currently on 20Mb but would like 50Mb. I have unlimited UK national calls for £9.95 which I would like to keep. I am considering the possibility of getting my telephone and broadband from Virgin and getting my TV from Sky but that would mean giving up my V+ & my spare STB box.

The Sky World package ( channels, sports & movies) plus Sky Plus HD plus multiroom looks promising but I'm not sure if I can get telephone, TV and broadband for less than the £112 I am paying at the moment.

Well I finally got the new modem installed yesterday, totally pain free and the Prem HD channels were on within the hour. The chap was even kind enough to make me a coax extension when I mentioned I wanted to move the extra Vbox from my bedroom to my son's.

Fantastic speeds so far, can't wait for the upload increase to 5Mbs, if it happens:
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...010/09/116.png

Now it's just a case of sorting a swap from the Vbox to a VHDbox, CS are still adamant it's another £49 charge. :/

Good grief! what a palaver trying to upgrade from VIP20 to VIP50, it goes like this:-
CS lady, yes it will be £96.50 a month plus a one off £40 fee for installation and you'll get it on both your V+ box and your VHD box.
Me , OK thats fine,
CS lady, I'll pass you through to one of my colleagues,
Offshore call centre (John), yes we can do that for a one off fee of £110,
Me, I've just been told that it's £40,
Offshore call centre (John), Hold on for a minute, Yes we can do that for £60,
Me, But I've been told it's £40,
Offshore call centre (John), Sorry that's the best I can do, I'll pass you to retentions if you like,
Me, Ok,
Retentions (Sally) It's £96.50 a month plus a one off £40 fee and it's on one box only,
Me, That's fine book me in.
Three different people three different tales, it's about time VM got there pricing structure sorted out and made it clear and transparent, it's no wonder everyone gives you a different tale. Back in 2007 when we upgraded to the VIP package it took 5 phone calls and three months before I got a correct bill, things don't seem to have improved much since then.
Roll on 17-Sept when it gets installed.

You still got charged too much, it should only be a £20 fee. Time to call them again.

If it makes you feel any better, I still can't get my second Vbox changed to a VHDbox for free, which is supposed to be part of the deal. :dozey:

Although you get the V HD activation fee waived on the VIP bundles, you do still have to pay to gave them installed/delivered - unless you are going for an offer that includes free install e.g. the VIP 50 upgrade.

Though if you are having two or more V HD boxes installed, you have to pay for per box installation of the second V HD box onwards

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I thought the £20 one off fee offer ended at the end of August. Re the V HD box I got mine for no charge at the begining of May I posted this at the time:-

Had a tech out this a.m. to resolve a problem with my Samsung V Box (am on VIP package so also have V+ box),box change required, whilst the guy was doing the box swap I asked him about V HD boxes and prices, he made a phone call and said cost to change my V Box is £49, no extra cost per month plus £35 install but if I wanted it doing now the install cost would be waived, so box was swapped for a V HD box there and then and I will be billed on my next bill £49 only, due to the confusion surrounding this I await my next bill with bated breath ( it took me 3 hours on the phone to sort my billing out when I originally went on the VIP Package when it first came out a couple of years ago).
The new V HD box works great by the way.

I was never charged anything for the box as I think at the time broken boxes were being swapped for V HD boxes for free.
I also had an email in May offering me the 50Mb broadband for £55 installation and activation fee

Hi

I am a newbie but have read the forum for some time now.

I have Sky + in one room on basic entertainment package and Virgin in another room with a V+ HD box -again basic entertainment pack no premium channels. I have 20mb BB (XL) and tel (M) with virgin. I was paying just under £80pm for this (including line rental ) and tel call charges were usually about £25-£30pm on top of that.

I want to go full HD in both rooms and upgrade to sky sports & movies and decided it would be more cost effective to get everything through 1 provider.

I rang Sky- they offered me a free install for 2 new SKY + HD boxes and then £90pm for full Sky World pack with HD for both boxes(multiroom). I didn't realise that sky also charge for HD per box (£10 per box). It would have been an extra £18.50 for 20mb BB and unlimited calls. A total of £108.50pm.

unfortunately Sky admitted that due to my distance from the nearest telephone exchange the best BB i would be likely to get would be less than 2mb. This is insufficent for me so i rang Virgin.

Virgin have offered me a 2nd V+ HD box with free instalation (normally £100) and VIP20 package XL BB 20mb- XL phone- XL TV pack with Sky Sports and movies in HD on both boxes for £97.44pm. This is £11 cheaper than the equivalent sky package and a vastly superior BB

I am probably going to take virgin up on this as sounds pretty good to me. Hopefuly the XL phone pack will reduce our call charges so for about roughly what i am currently paying to sky and virgin for basic tv I will get upgrade to sports and movies in HD on 2 V+ boxes.

Do people agree it is a decent deal ??

Always wonder what the £49 "Activation Fee" covers, what is the breaksdown of this cost, what do VM actually have to do for their £49? Seems a little excessive to me

Ben, I have just rung to upgrade to VIP50, I was told it would cost £5.01 more than I currently pay (making it £100.00), with £20 activation fee, I could have the HD box to replace my SD additional box but there would be the £49 activation fee. I was expecting it to be £96.50 with no £49 fee. I was not sure about the £20, I see some people seem to have had it waived? What should I actually pay, and how do I go about getting it?? Thanks for any help.

Actually no it's not - if you are on either XL Plus or VIP you don't have to pay for the HD activation for any V HD box on the account.

You have to pay the 50Mbit activation fee (you are getting the install free)

There definately shouldn't be the £49 fee for the V HD box

has the activation fee on the V HD box now been waived if you are VIP20? Even though I still have old silver STB.

Because you do. The lease on the box is free (usually £49), the HD activation is not.

No, that's not correct.

The HD activation fee for the V HD box is not charged for either XL Plus or VIP customers. All you have to pay is any installation or delivery cost

*sigh* No I did not say that. It will cost you something, just not the £49 HD Activation

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Ben,

Up to two weeks agon these were the services I received....

XL Home Phone
XXL Broadband
XL TV with Sky Movies & Sports collection.
1 V+ box downstairs, 2nd V+ Box Upstairs (This 2nd box was installed by the CEO office following awful 50MB issues and replaced a standard STB)

I came across your post stating VIP 50 customers should get Sky HD Premium channels included for £96.50 a month.

So I thought well I have all of those services so surely I should be getting the premium HD channels! So I rang 150 and asked what I currently pay a month and was told £98!! I told them about the VIP 50 package which they had no idea about but after checking said I should be getting the Sky Premium HD channels and for £96.50 a month.

The Premium channels were added and all was good until I received my new contract in the post and the total cost was £107!! Gone up £9.

So I rang 150 again who informed me there was an IT issue as I had a 2nd V+ box this was confusing the system, she said the man who input the order realised it as he had emailed IT and she would send another email to chase it up.

So I've waited a week and rang CS 150 today, to be told..... yes you guessed my package is £107 a month and this is due to a 2nd V+ box. The lady on the phone (Hayley) told me this is the correct price and due to my 2nd V+ box the price is correct!

rant over

Is this right Ben? Surely I shouldn't be paying £10.50 more just for the mediocre record function!!

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Thanks for the reply Ben, seems absurd that I could have a standard V HD box for £96.50 a month?!

I do only have the Sky Premium channels on 1 box by the way if this makes any difference??

BenMcr 13-09-2010 15:25

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

The official reason why it costs £10 more, is that you don't pay the £99 activation for the additional V+HD boxes when you get them installed. Obviously with you having your additional V+HD box installed by CEO the original circumstances are different, but that's the way it is set up on the computer system so the same has to apply to everyone.

And the Sky HD Bolt on is seperate again to any V+HD fees. If you wanted it on both V+HD boxes it would cost you a further £7 to add it to the additional HD box

Thanks once again Ben, think i may enquire to getting rid of the V+HD box then and replaced with just the standard V HD box as I don't really use the record function and the Wife only moans about the noisy hard drive at night :wtf:

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Can't see it being a problem to do - you would have to pay for delivery/install of the V HD box but not the HD activation. So would be £20 Delivery or £40 Tech install

Slight issue over the HD activation fees on the VIP bundles at the moment however that's in the process of being sorted, so I may suggest you leave it for a week or so

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I rang up today still got told that i have to pay £49, as stated in lew post back i don't mind paying just want to know what i ment to pay £20 or £49.

BenMcr 13-09-2010 17:02

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

At present the computer system tries to charge the £49 when it shouldn't, which is in the process of getting fixed.

Agents should be aware of this and not charge the fee, but this also seems to be an issue at the moment. This I am working to try and also get resolved.

Which is why I said give it a week or so!

Received an email from Virgin today price to upgrade to 50Mb is £20 until the end of Sept, free installation charges worth £40 so I presume the £20 is for the 50Mb activation, rang CS as I was being charged £40 for my installation this Friday, £20 discount added to my bill so my one off charge is going to be £20 hopefully!

There are two charges associated with the upgrade of BB to XXL. Installation £40 and Activation £20.

The email is advising that you will only have to pay the Activation £20 and not the Installation £40, total £20.

I suggest that you need to clarify what you will be paying.

I think you will be paying a total of £40 as follows:

Activation £20
Installation £40
Discount -£20
Total £40

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Thats's why I called them, as I already have a £20 discount showing on my account Virgin Partnership Saving, this gave me a one off cost of £40, however the email states free installation and £20 BB activation, after calling them I have had a further £20 put on my account giving a total saving of £40 and a one off fee of £20.

I've no idea what a Virgin Partnership Saving is but as long as you are happy that it is a one-off saving associated with this upgrade then that's OK.

If it's an ongoing monthly saving that you are entitled to because you have some association with Virgin Media for another reason then you are still £20 out of pocket.

daveybm 14-09-2010 12:53

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

It's only just shown up on the account and the cs person said it is the discount applied for the BB activation, apparently I was getting free BB activation but paying £40 iinstallation charge. The extra discount I am getting makes this the same as price as free installation and a £20 BB activation charge which is what is advertised in the email I received.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Not long got off the phone with sales & have been quoted £99.50 / month for VIP 50Mb bundle + caller display (1V+HD box & 1 V HD Box).
Currently only have TV XL with 2 standard set top boxes. I have been given an installation date of 1st October.

My concern is that I have not been quoted any one off costs for installation or HD activation & I now realise I was never even asked about my current phone providor & keeping my number.

Does this sound right?

Been on hold for 10 mins trying to get back through to sales! But would much prefer too speak to someone who's accent I can understand.;)

BenMcr 15-09-2010 15:13

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Did you mention you had an existing landline provider? Virgin can port the number over but it may affect the install date. Alternatively you can do it after install - but that takes 10-14 days

They should have confirmed the cost of installation or whether you were getting it free As has been said previously there are no costs for HD activation on the VIP bundle.

Thanks for the replys & Info guys

Managed to get through to whatever distant land the sales team are in & went through it all again to check, only to be told I would only get 1 V+HD box & NO further box as we already had 2. WTF???

Yes I have 2 Scientific Atlanta 4200 I think but the VIP clearly states "V+ HD Box, plus an extra V HD box"

Neven got as far as the phone issues

Is there a number I can call in the UK to speak to someone who doesn't need a script & elocution lessons?

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

This is quickly turning into a farce!

I received my first VIP50 bill today & it shows the £20 activation charge, which is fine, but it also shows a £35 manned installation charge and a £3.50 partial month charge for Premium HD!

To top it off, the internet connection went down for three hours last night and Dave from Delhi was insisting it's an area fault & won't be fixed for three days, then hung up on me!

Then the V+ box reboots three times while watching the Champions League on SS2HD & recording a film on Film4HD.

Not a happy chappie at the moment.

i didn,t get a 2nd hd box when i upgraded 3 weeks ago,and i double checked when i didn,t get it and was told it does not come with another hd box,so no idea really, but then if i had the 2nd i need to pay another £7 for the hd channels for the 2nd box,so i not to bothered .

Yes, it will show a charge for the Premium HD. However you discount will have been increased by £7 to keep the overall price the same

Deathmaker 15-09-2010 16:18

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Yeah, the guy I just spoke to made me aware that the discount will be £44.94 as opposed to £37.94 to cover the extra £7 but said they don't/won't refund the £3.50 as it's a partial month's charge.

I did, however, managed to get the £35 installation charge credited to my account before the DD goes out from the bank in a few days, but forgot to ask about the VHD box upgrade. D'oh!

I also managed to get an engineer booked for tomorrow AM to check the increasingly flaky SA V+ box.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Finally spoke to someone in the UK (yay).

£95.75 for 6 months then £103/month after (double yay)

Installation brought foreward 1 week (tripple yay)

BUT.....I have to pay for the V+HD & V HD boxes at £99 & £49 respectively (BOO)

"included in your bundle" is now about as truthful as BT's "up to 20Mb"

BenMcr 15-09-2010 17:05

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

That's all completely wrong pricing for VIP 50 - unless you are having more than the 2 HD boxes

Even then the costs for the V+HD and V HD box are very wrong

Lincsbri 15-09-2010 17:23

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

thats a crap deal, what they giving you in the 6 months free, they have clawed back with charging you the price of the boxes and its a higher price than we all pay minus the vhd box,i have a standard 2nd box and only pay £96.50 and only paid £20 for the bb activation,so not a very good deal you got there at all.

OK, so just called CS to change our V Box to a VHD Box.

I explained that were are effectively on Triple XL (we have XXL broadband) with a V+ Box and a standard V Box and understood that we can now upgrade our V Box to a VHD Box for free, but pay £20 for self installation.

The lady said she wasn't aware of such a deal and that certainly wasn't coming up on her system. And that was that lol!

@ BenMcr

Figures based on VM Website

VIP20 - £91.50 or £98.50 with Sky Prem HD Channels.
VIP50 - £97.50 or £104.50 with Sky Prem HD Channels.

Yet on this forum is stated VIP50 is £96.50 which includes Sky Prem HD Channels for one box.

When selecting VIP50 it does not state includes Sky Prem HD and you have to add thr package.

Are you able to clarify
